    A cultural infrastructure of shared morality is necessary for the success of market eco-nomics. Traditional views maintain that religion is the nurturing source of the morality, which grows in the culture. The Progressive revolution aims to overturn Traditional morality and impose its social justice morality on culture. This article dissects and cri-tiques the multifaceted Progressive revolution in the United States, while contrasting it with the Traditional view. It argues that the ultimate aim of the Progressive revolution is to redefine the human person through identity politics as a collective entity, which es-sentially liquidates the individual, conforms the person to social justice morality, and establishes socialistic economics.

    Ethics has been one of the main fields of Zygmunt Bauman's interests for the last two decades. His papers considering this topic have a considerable impact on contemporary humanities. The idea of 'the moral party of two', developed by the Polish sociologist, contributed to the development of ethical thought and, for example, influenced the new trends in the debate on post-modernity. On the othe hand, this concept has been widely criticized, which is one of the issues discussed in this paper. The author demonstrates that if Bauman's ethical concepts are considered in the context of the foundations of his sociology, and account being taken of the way of writing distinctive for this sociologist, certain controversial aspects of postmodern ethics could be evaluated as functional. Another aim of this paper is to present the evolution of Bauman's ethical thought, which can be seen as twofold. On the one hand, it is the considerable enlargement of the part the individual responsibility is given in Bauman's thought, on the other - his including in the ethical thought the reflection on the role of the political structures in the settings of the collective rules. The author emphasizes that by making such changes Bauman does not deny the constitutive features of his idea of morality, but supplements it and tries to adjust it to the current sociocultural changes.
    Etyka od dwóch dekad stanowi jeden z głównych obszarów zainteresowań Zygmunta Baumana. Zaowocowało to szeregiem publikacji naukowych, istotnie oddziałujących na współczesną humanistykę. Rozwijana w nich koncepcja „dwuosobowej wspólnoty moralnej” („the moral party of two”) przyczyniła się między innymi do powstania zmian w ramach samej myśli etycznej, a także do wyłonienia się nowych kierunków w debacie nad ponowoczesnością. Z drugiej jednak strony idea ta stała się przedmiotem daleko idącej krytyki, której wybrane wątki poddane zostaną w niniejszym artykule analizie. Jego autor dowodzi, że interpretacja koncepcji etycznej Baumana w kontekście założeń przyświecających jego socjologii, a także zwrócenie uwagi na charakterystyczny dla niego sposób konstruowania dyskursu, może skłaniać do twierdzenia o funkcjonalności pewnych – budzących pierwotnie kontrowersje – aspektów ponowoczesnej etyki. Kolejnym celem niniejszego tekstu jest nakreślenie ewolucji myśli etycznej Baumana. Można wskazać dwie jej główne drogi. Jedną z nich jest idea znacznego rozszerzenia zakresu odpowiedzialności indywidualnej, kolejną – włączenie do rozważań nad etyką refleksji o roli struktur politycznych w ustanawianiu reguł współżycia zbiorowego. Autor artykułu unaocznia, że poprzez wprowadzenie owych zmian Bauman bynajmniej nie neguje podstawowych założeń swej koncepcji etycznej, lecz stara się ją uzupełnić i dostosować do zachodzących obecnie zmian społeczno‑kulturowych.

    The article is an analysis of morality and justice in light of the views of such thinkers as M. Blondel, J. Ortega y Gasset, E. Chiavacci and S. Privitera. In contemporary public life, new social conflicts are generated by a growing neutralization with respect to the formation of conscience and progressive relativization of all values. It is very difficult to clearly identify what justice is today and the morality that should apply to relationships. A. Honneth and M. Hrubec emphasize the need for the so-called good life, which should be based on an attitude of appreciation and respect, and accepting the other person as equal to other people. Only in this way is it possible to remove the dominance of stronger individuals and sensitize communities to the need to build global responsibility.
