The Wiki-WS platform was implemented within the C2 NIWA project for production purposes. Wiki-WS stands for developing, managing and maintaining web services. The production deployment needed implementation of several functional improvements and establishing a strong security&safety policy. The WikiWiki-WS platform has to be used as an educational environment for developing web services and a production environment for execution of advanced web services using the computation capacity of the newly established supercomputer – TRITON. In the article the Wiki-WS architecture, security methods and results of real environment tests are presented.

Opis:
Several problems related to work reliability appear while building service-oriented systems. The first problem consists of the lack of static typing and the lack of interservice data type checking. The second one consists of the high connectivity of services. The article shows an example of the strong and static polymorphic type system and the type check algorithm. The service-contract and the contract discovery concepts for universal service linking and type verification are described. After theoretic results had been realized in a service form, they were applied in practice in the real system, which improved its reliability. Also, technical realization decreased services connectivity, which promoted system quality increase. However, the increased complexity of the resulting system leveled advanced reliability.

Opis:
Evolution of service-oriented systems is quite a new research area, which becomes more and more important as engineering challenges move from enabling service-orientation onto the maintenance and evolution of already developed service-oriented systems. However, the development of suitable evolution processes and methodologies is still an open research problem. The evolution process presented in this paper has been designed to address the evolution of service-oriented systems, which are technically built out of a set of service compositions. The presented process comprises phases and tasks compliant with ISO 20000. The underlying model of service-oriented system consisting of business processes and corresponding service composition models has also been presented. A traceability model and tools supporting change impact analysis have also been provisioned for. Preliminary industrial validation indicates that the evolution process should be easy to adapt by the industry.

The paper presents dependability analysis of CLARIN-PL Centre of Language Technology (CLT). It describes infrastructure, high availability aspects and micro-service architecture used in CLARIN-PL applications. Microservices architecture improves dependability in respect to availability and reliability and to some extent safety. It is comprised of the mechanisms of reliable communication of applications, replication, recovery, and transaction processing. CLT has also a set of components for failure detection, monitoring and autonomic management, and distributed security policy enforcement.

This work investigates the use of enterprise models for service configuration with a focus on knowledge related to organizational roles. Starting from an industrial case, it presents an approach to extract a role’s information demand from an enterprise model and to use this as initial configuration for agent-based services. In addition to the meta-model included in the enterprise modeling language, the use of a common ontology is proposed which captures both, the perspective of information demand and services. The architecture of the agentbased services is following the idea to characterize all actors by their roles and to represent them by sets of services. This approach facilitates self-organization in the service level. The main contributions of the paper are (1) to show that a role’s information demand is relevant for service configuration, (2) to present a way of extracting information demand from enterprise models, and (3) to extend an approach for SOA-based enterprise representation with information demand.

High performance computing is nowadays mostly performed in a best effort fashion. This is surprising as the closely related topic of grid computing, which deals with the federation of resources from multiple domains in order to support large jobs, and cloud computing, which promises seemingly infinite amounts of compute and storage, both offer quality of service (QoS), albeit in different ways. Long-term service level agreements (SLAs), which require the establishment of SLAs long in advance of their actual usage, seem a promising way for the offering of QoS guarantees in an HPC environment in a way that is not disruptive to the business models employed today. This work uses the long-term SLA approach as a basis for the provisioning of service levels for HPC resources and presents an SLA management framework to support this. Flexibility is provided by providing SLAs with different service levels, support for which is integrated into job submission and scheduling. The SLA management framework can, on a high level, be used in a generic fashion and an implementation is presented that is evaluated against a motivating scenario.

The manufacturing industry has been reshaping its operations using digital technologies for a smart production towards a more customized demand. Nevertheless, the flexibility to attend the production plan changes in real time is still challenging. Although the Internet of Services (IoS) has been addressed as a key element for Industry 4.0, there is still a lack of clarity about the IoS contribution for advanced manufacturing. Through a case study, the paper aims to validate the adherence of a theoretical model named Service-Oriented Manufacturing Architecture (SOMA) in two manufacturing companies that have been already engaged in Industry 4.0. As main results, it was concluded that IoS could suit in one case of Industry 4.0 flexible production process but not in a mass production one. Considering the scarcity of research that exemplifies the IoS contribution, the present paper brings an important assessment on a real manufacturing scenario.

The purpose of this article is to present the state of information technology in urban development. This is the result of a study of cities and city offices on the relationship between information technology and the state of Smart City development. At the beginning of this article the state of cities on the way to Smart Cities was presented. Then, the process of transforming cities into Smart Cities was discussed and the state of Smart Cities technology was described. Because the complexity of technology depends on the maturity of city offices, the relationship between technologies and maturity has been mentioned. Then, services were introduced as a way to decompose the technology. Based on the technologies, services and urban maturity presented, a key question for the development of Smart Cities was asked: how to assess technologies to be useful for the development of Smart Cities?
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest prezentacja stanu technologii informatycznych w rozwoju miast. Jest to wynik badań miast i urzędów miast nad relacjami między technologiami informatycznymi a stanem rozwoju Smart City. Na początku tego artykułu przedstawiono stan miast w drodze do Smart Cities. Następnie omówiono proces przekształcania miast w Smart Cities oraz opisano stan technologii Smart Cities. Ponieważ złożoność technologii zależy od dojrzałości urzędów miast, wspomniano o relacjach między technologiami a dojrzałością. Następnie wprowadzono usługi jako sposób dekompozycji technologii. W oparciu o zaprezentowane technologie, usługi i dojrzałość miast postawiono kluczowe pytanie dla rozwoju Smart Cities pytanie: jak ocenić technologie aby były one przydatne dla rozwoju Smart Cities?

Wytwarzanie aplikacji w architekturze zorientowanej na usługi wymaga zastosowania odpowiednich algorytmów wyboru usług, które będą zapewniały wytworzenie aplikacji o wymaganych parametrach jakościowych. Biorąc pod uwagę, że problem wyboru usług ma wykładniczą złożoność obliczeniową, stosowne są zarówno algorytmy dokładne jak i przybliżone. W pracy przedstawiono porównanie i analizę istniejących algorytmów wyboru usług w kompozycji usług złożonych. Algorytmy porównano w zakresie złożoności obliczeniowej i dokładności uzyskiwanych wyników. Ponadto przeanalizowano algorytmy stosowane w technologiach Internetu przedmiotów (Internet of things) oraz algorytmy wykorzystujące metody sztucznej inteligencji. W niektórych przypadkach algorytmy zostały opracowane dla różnych poziomów złożoności modelu aplikacji, co również wpływa na ich charakterystyki.
Application development in Service Oriented Architecture requires application of appropriate service selection algorithms that support achievement of required application quality. Both accurate and approximate algorithms are applied considering that the service selection problem has non-polynomial computational complexity. In this paper, existing service selection algorithms were analyzed and compared considering computational complexity and result accuracy. Additionally, algorithms that use artificial intelligence methods were described. Solutions dedicated to Internet of things were analyzed with respect to specific requirements and working conditions in this application area. In some cases, algorithms were designed for different complexity of the application model, which also influences their characteristics.

The NATO Command, Control and Consultation Agency (NC3A) is a participant in a coalition project called the Shared Tactical Pictures (STP). The aim of STP is to develop methods and techniques to enable the sharing of a wide variety of information -e.g., ground surveillance sensors, airborne sensor platforms, recognized pictures, and much more - across a widely distributed network. As NATO changes its war-fighting paradigm from a well-known and stable alliance configuration to more flexible, coalition-based operations, solving the problem of information-sharing has never been more important. This paper discusses the technical and operational developments being explored in STP.

Opis:
Business Intelligence promises improved decision making. To meet the changing business requirements, BI has to reduce latency between data acquisition and decision. As a result of growing needs, concepts like Real Time, Active, Operational, Business Performance Management or embedded BI are introduced in the literature. Nevertheless, the technical implementation prevents the realization of these concepts. Thus, overloaded infrastructures and heterogeneous system landscapes avoid further evolution. To prevent this lack of system integration and performance, we address the changing BI paradigms through a service-oriented approach. Hence, the novel BI concepts and Service-oriented Business Intelligence (SoBI) theories are illustrated and combined in a uniform artifact. The construct is developed by using reference modeling. As a result, a SoBI reference architecture accrues, which becomes validated successfully and provides a basis for future implementations. This paper offers a flexible approach that reduces the latency in order of dynamic market environments.
Inteligentne systemy komputerowe pomocne są w procesie wspomagania decyzji do zmieniających się wymagań biznesowych. System BI ma zmniejszyć opóźnienie między procesami akwizycji danych i podejmowania decyzji. Niemniej w praktyce trudna jest strona techniczna dotycząca realizacji tych koncepcji. Aby uniknąć problemów związanych z integracją i wydajnością systemu, możemy dostosować się do zmieniających się paradygmatów BI przez podejście zorientowane na usługi. Stąd nowe koncepcja BI zorientowana na usługi Business Intelligence. W publikacji przedstawiono elastyczne podejście, które zmniejsza opóźnienia w dynamicznym środowisku rynkowym.
