Opis:
Celem artykułu było zidentyfikowanie zależności pomiędzy poziomem rozwoju współczesnej gospodarki informacyjnej, określanej mianem gospodarki wiedzy – GOW, w wybra-nych krajach a wielkością ich sektora informacyjnego. Istniejące metodyki pomiaru skali sektora informacyjnego w poszczególnych gospodarkach narodowych napotykają bowiem różne trudności o charakterze metodycznym (brak jednolitej metodologii i powszechnie akceptowanych wskaźników pomiaru) oraz statystycznym (brak odpowiednich, porównywalnych danych).
This article aims at identifying dependencies between the rate of development of modern information economy (also known as knowledge economy – KE) and size of information sector in chosen countries. Existing methodologies in individual national economies for scales of information sector measurement, encounter different difficulties of methodical and statistical nature (e.g. lack of unified and commonly accepted measurement indicators, lack of proper and comparable data). Thus, the authors of this article search for the dependencies between scales of information sector in the economies of chosen countries and the rate of their development described by different known indices and rates. The authors state that explanation of information sector scales for date in the year 2000 and 2008, which was made with use of knowledge economy indices published by National Bank Institute such as Knowledge Index – KI and Knowledge Economy Index – KEI leads to substantial errors. Human Development Index – HDI occurred to be the best variable for this purpose. When applied, the regression line for analyzed data fits well and its parameters are statistically important. To conclude, basing on HDI value published UNPD allows for fast estimate information sectors scales in particular economies.

Opis:
Ownership structure and provider efficiencyThe purpose of the paper is to investigate the relationship between ownership structure of health care providers and technical efficiency of health care in the regions of Poland. A model built with the use of data envelopment analysis methodology is used for the estimation of efficiency of the health care production process in the regions. The inputs of the process are densities of doctors and nurses as well as per capita expenditures for health care in each of the regions; the outputs are numbers of ambulatory and stationary care services produced. Generally, the results show that the regions with a higher proportion of non-public providers are characterized by a higher technical efficiency, however the results are not unambiguous. The correlation between efficiency and the development of the non-public sector is statistically significant only in the case of ambulatory care providers, while it is insignificant when the proportion of non-public hospitals is considered.

Opis:
This article deals with the prospects and trends of crop production development in Ukraine, as well as the methods and ways of supporting this industry by the state.According to the article, the primary objective of the state is to create conditions through the reallocation of resources and facilitate the introduction of new forms of economic activity in the regions, which are depressed in terms of agriculture today. It is noted that to justify the need for institutional changes in crop production we must take into account the appropriate specifics of agricultural production in some areas. The article reports that, a large number of similar types of agricultural enterprises, unlike in other sectors of the economy, allow us to group the results of their activity: in terms of forms of management, on a territorial basis or according to other types of features for further comparative analysis. Therefore, the article offers the crop production regions clustering in certain areas, to determine which areas need the state aid priority. It is noted that in terms of crop production it is possible to increase the efficiency of agricultural activity due to a better use of agricultural land, as well as by an increase in average crop yield per 1 hectare. Therefore, it is offered to use the integral index of crop production position of each region, based on the ratios of extensive and intensive load. The extensive load factor represents the degree of agricultural land use.The intensive load factor reflects the effectiveness of land fund usage, that is, the average yield, which is produced from the agricultural land of the same region. However, the average yield cannot directly serve as the basis for calculation, because the structure of the sown area of each region is heterogeneous. In this study, while calculating the intensive load factor, it is offered primarily to carry out the procedure of yield rate normalization for each group of crops separately.Using the method of integral estimation of crop development, the autor has made an appropriate ranking of Ukraine regions according to the area of sown crops in Ukraine, based on which 4 sectors of Ukraine areas have been allocated and grouped by crop production development level. The article goes on to give the recommendations for decision making supporting investments and state aid for each of the selected sectors to further develop crop production in the regions of Ukraine.

Opis:
Comprehensive forecasting of future volumes of container traffic in seaports is important when it comes to port development, including investments, especially in relation to costly transport infrastructure (e.g. new terminals). The aim of this article is to present a specific, simplified model of demand forecasting for container traffic in seaports as well as to give a practical verification of the model in the Polish seaport sector. The model consists of relevant indexes of containerisation (values, dynamics) referring to the macroeconomic characteristics of the country of cargo origin as well as destination-predictor variables (e.g. population, foreign trade, gross domestic product). This method will facilitate the evaluation of three basic segments of the container market: foreign trade services, maritime transit flows and land transit flows. International comparisons of indexes (benchmarking) as well as extrapolations of future changes can support this prediction process. A practical implementation of this research has enabled us to calculate that the total container volume in Poland will be approximately 4.69 – 4.87 million TEU by the year 2023.
