Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the article was to verify whether methodological triangulation supports research processes in management science. Design/methodology/approach: In order to verify the hypothesis, quantitative research (survey questionnaire) and qualitative research (interview questionnaire) were conducted. Quantitative research was addressed to a group of management science theoreticians being a target group. As a result of the research effort undertaken, 401 representatives of management science theoreticians were examined. Findings: The statistical conclusions of the research conducted among management scientists clearly show that a significant proportion (66%) believes that methodological triangulation is a necessary condition in the research process. Moreover, as many as 82% of the above mentioned respondents claim that triangulation supports the research process. Originality/value: It is necessary to use a variety of testing methods that provide a comprehensive response to the posed research problem.

Opis:
Purpose: The aim of the paper was to determine whether the purpose of the discipline, i.e. management science, is to support the practical aspects of economic life. Design/methodology/approach: In order to find answers to the said research questions, 401 theoreticians of management science were surveyed by means of an anonymous survey questionnaire. Findings: Conclusions resulting from the conducted research and the analysis of the literature clearly indicate the need to carry out research work embedded in both theoretical and practical terms. Originality/value: It is indicated that the main disadvantage associated with the management science is the impermanence of the claims made. It should be remembered that it also cover theoretical research within its scope, as no science can develop without theoretical background. It is also worth noting that the relationship between the management science and business practice is bilateral and additionally complex.

Nauki prawne, najogólniej ujmując, stanowią zbiór nauk społecznych, które zawierają zarówno elementy nauk humanistycznych, jak i ścisłych, zajmujących się prawem. Istnieją dwa podejścia do prowadzenia badań: jedno zakładające autonomię i niezależność prawa oraz drugie skupione na integracji zewnętrznej nauk prawnych, która propaguje wykorzystywanie dorobku metodologicznego innych dyscyplin naukowych podczas prowadzenia badań nad prawem. Artykuł porusza wybrane zagadnienia dotyczące metodologii w prawie karnym i w kryminologii, których wspólną cechą jest analizowanie przestępczości i jej kontrolowania w społeczeństwie.
Legal sciences, generally speaking, constitute a set of social sciences that contain elements of both humanities and exact sciences dealing with law. There are two approaches to conducting research, one assuming the autonomy and independence of law and the other focused on the external integration of legal sciences, which promotes the use of the methodological achievements of other scientific disciplines in conducting research on law. This article deals with selected problems of methodology in criminal law and criminology, the common feature of which is the analysis and control of crime in society.

Opis:
Punktem wyjścia jest Douglasa Harpera rekonstrukcja obszarów problemowych i narzędzi badawczych socjologii wizualnej. Służy ona za kontekst krytycznej analizy sposobu myślenia o wspomnianym obszarze badań; myślenia, które jest dominujące i które utrudnia jego dalszy rozwój. Analizując wykorzystanie obrazu w narracji socjologicznej, rolę technologii wizualnej w przeobrażeniach sposobu prowadzenia badań, a także teoretyczne korzenie tych badań, autor stara się zidentyfikować główne problemy odpowiadające za taki stan rzeczy oraz możliwości uporania się z nimi. Proponowana jest zmiana sposobu konceptualizacji fotografii na użytek socjologii – odejście od jej rozumienia w kategoriach reprezentacji na rzecz ujmowania jej jako praktyki społecznej. Przyjęcie takiego założenia, poza wskazaniem na ewaluację metodologicznego, teoretycznego i etycznego zaplecza badań wizualnych, pozwala na zarysowanie planu poszerzenia ich obecnego obszaru problemowego.
The starting point is Douglas Harp's reconstruction of problem areas and research instruments of visual sociology. It provides the context for critical analysis of the way this area of research is thought of, which dominates and impedes its further development. By analyzing the deployment of image in sociological narrative, the function of visual technology in the transformations of research practices as well as theoretical grounding of these research, the author strives to identify the main problems responsible for the current state of affairs in the discipline and the chances of remedy. A change of the method of conceptualizing photography in sociology is advocated, in order to give up its comprehension in terms of representation and move towards understanding it as a social practice. By adopting this assumption, apart from indicating the evaluation of methodological, theoretical and ethical background of visual research, it is also possible to outline the plan to expand its current problem area.

Tekst odpowiada na pytanie: jaki jest sens prowadzenia badań politologicznych? Wtedy, gdy ma się odpowiednią motywację i (co równie ważne) wie się, jak to można zrobić. W tym drugim przypadku musi się postępować w odpowiedniej kolejności. Po pierwsze, należy wyznaczyć granice pola badawczego, a po drugie, określić oryginalne, niebanalne problemy i hipotezy badawcze. Po trzecie, konieczny jest odpowiedni dobór i sposób selekcji źródeł pierwotnych i ewentualnie wtórnych. Czwartym etapem jest dobranie adekwatnych metod i technik badawczych, a następnie skonstruowanie narzędzia lub narzędzi badawczych. Po określeniu poziomu prawdziwości i stosowalności zebranych informacji możliwe jest dopiero przystąpienie do weryfikacji hipotez. Im bardziej ten ostatni proces będzie rzetelny, a badacz dociekliwy, tym ciekawsze uzyska się rezultaty badawcze.
The text answers the following question: what is the point of conducting political science research? The research can make a lot of sense when you are strongly motivated and, motivation is just as important as your knowledge how to do it. In the latter case, you must proceed in the correct order. Firstly, the boundaries of the research field should be set, and secondly, original and unconventional research problems and hypotheses should be defined. Thirdly, the proper selection of primary and secondary sources is necessary. Fourthly, you choose appropriate research methods and techniques, and then construct a research tool or tools. After the determining of the level of accuracy and relevance of data collected, it is possible to proceed to the verification of hypotheses. The more thorough the process and the more inquisitive researcher, the more interesting research results are obtained.

W niniejszym artykule starano się przedstawić wyniki analiz metod i technik badawczych zastosowanych w raportach ewaluacyjnych (w latach 2002–2011). Do zrealizowania tego celu posłużono się bazą badań ewaluacyjnych, zgromadzoną przez Wydział Ewaluacji Departamentu Koordynacji Polityki Strukturalnej Ministerstwa Rozwoju Regionalnego. Analiza materiału pozwoliła na określenie trendów metodologicznych stosowanych w badaniach ewaluacyjnych, zlecanych w związku z realizacją polityk publicznych. W artykule starano się też uchwycić wpływ teleinformatycznych zmian wpływających na stosowane w metodologiach techniki badawcze. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na wykorzystanie mobilnych rozwiązań. Biorąc pod uwagę to rewolucyjne kryterium, podjęto także próbę metodologicznego quasi-podziału.
In the present article one was trying to present the results of analyses of methods and research techniques applied in evaluation reports (in years 2002–2011). For fulfilling this purpose one has used the base of evaluation examinations collected by the Department of the Evaluation of the Department of Structural Policy Coordination of the Ministry of Regional Development. Analysis of material allowed for determining the methodological trends applied in evaluation examinations, commissioned in relation to the implementation of the public policies. In the article one was also trying to catch the influence of teleinformatic changes, which influence on the research techniques adopted in methodologies. The special attention was paid for using the mobile answers. Considering this revolutionary criterion, an attempt of the methodological quasi-division was also made

Nieustanne zmiany zachodzące w technologicznym i społeczno-kulturowym otoczeniu nie pozostają bez wpływu na sferę badań marketingowych. Powszechność dostępu do Internetu i rosnąca swoboda korzystania z tego narzędzia komunikacji powoduje stałe zainteresowanie wśród przedsiębiorstw realizacją badań marketingowych w przestrzeni wirtualnej. Zjawisko to nie omija naturalnie także metod jakościowych. Potencjalna możliwość uzyskania jakościowych danych pierwotnych w krótkim czasie i przy relatywnie niskich nakładach finansowych stanowi dla praktyków życia gospodarczego kluczowy argument przemawiający za poszukiwaniem nowych rozwiązań metodycznych angażujących nowoczesne rozwiązania technologiczne i Internet do realizacji badań także w tym eksploracyjnym nurcie metodycznym. Zmiany wydają się nieuniknione. Warto jednak przyglądać się wpływowi owych zmian na zakres możliwych do pozyskania danych i ich wiarygodności. Wybór Internetu jako miejsca realizacji badań jakościowych niesie ze sobą bez wątpienia wiele możliwości, stwarza jednak określone ograniczenia zarówno dla przebiegu procesu realizacji badań oraz jakości pozyskiwanych danych. Przedmiotem pracy badawczej uczyniono analizę porównawczą dwóch jakościowych technik badawczych – zogniskowanego wywiadu grupowego (klasyczny FGI – focus group interview), realizowanego w oparciu o bezpo-średni kontakt moderatora z osobami badanymi oraz wywiadu grupowego realizowanego za pośrednictwem Internetu (FGI-online). Celem opracowania jest dokonanie porównania mocnych i słabych stron obu jakościowych technik realizacyjnych z perspektywy kluczowych etapów procesu badawczego. Opracowanie oparte zostało o studia literatury przedmiotu z zakresu metodyki badań społecznych, badań marketingowych oraz psychologii
Ongoing changes in technological and socio-cultural settings influence not only marketing activity of companies, but also market research domain. The potential of the Internet is increasing-ly being recognised by market research users, market researchers, as well as academics. The new digital settings have been providing strong impact to the development of new market research approaches, also in field of qualitative research methods. This paper contributes to the debate surrounding the value of qualitative online research in comparison to standard methodology. The main objective of the paper is to compare two of qualitative techniques: standard face-to-face focus groups as well as online focus groups via communicator (chat). The cyberspace generate a lot of methodological challenges for qualitative market research. Going through particular stages of the qualitative research process this paper discusses the opportunities, as well as limitations of standard and online qualitative market research techniques.

Medykalizacja to proces w Polsce wciąż niezbadany, choć cieszący się coraz większym zainteresowaniem socjologów medycyny. Zarówno medycyna, jak i socjologia zgadzają się co do tego, że medykalizacja istnieje, choć nieco inaczej jest rozumiana przez przedstawicieli obu tych dyscyplin. Medycyna widzi ten proces jako naturalny i wręcz pożądany, podczas gdy socjologia medycyny często podkreśla jego negatywne konsekwencje, mówiąc o przemedykalizowaniu. Jako jedno z pierwszych polskich opracowań problematyki medykalizacji, artykuł przedstawia zarys podstawowych dylematów teoretycznych i metodologicznych, jakie trzeba rozstrzygnąć lub mieć na uwadze, podejmując badania procesów medykalizacji.
Medicalization in Poland is still a quite new and unexplored field, but is gaining popularity among medical sociology researchers. The sciences of medicine and sociology are in agreement that the process of medicalization is taking place, but each of them defines it differently. The science of medicine treats it as something natural and even desired, while medical sociology often underlines negative aspects and explores the dangers of over-medicalization. As one of first Polish texts on medicalization, this paper offers an outline of the main theoretical and methodological dilemmas which a researcher must address when undertaking research on the medicalization processes.

Against the backdrop of an increasing interest in visual methods in social research, this paper examines some theoretical foundations of human (inter-)action by reflecting on the interplay between senses, the body, and biography. The main purpose of the paper is to combine an integral, non-Cartesian concept of the self as body (respectively the lived body as self) with biographical research—thus enriching research on the body, as well as on biography. Criticizing the Cartesian split of body and mind, classical phenomenological (Leib) and recent concepts of the body (“embodiment”) are sketched, resulting in a processual model of the sensual construction of the lived and living body in its environment. Given the interplay of bodily foundations of the self and processes of biographical structuring, so far, distant fields of research are converged. Some suggestions for conceptual improvements, an attentional shift to body aspects, respective research topics, and the extension of methods exceeding the narrative biographical interview in biographical research are indicated.

Opis:
Za pomocą nowoczesnych technik analizy powierzchni, takich jak: pomiary potencjału zeta, skaningowa mikroskopia elektronowa, mikroskopia sił atomowych oraz rentgenowska spektroskopia fotoelektronów, zbadano dwa rodzaje membran polimerowych przeznaczonych do nanofiltracji. Stwierdzono, że ww. techniki analityczne umożliwiają komplementarne określenie właściwości fizykochemicznych powierzchni polimerowych membran nanofiltracyjnych, a tym samym ułatwiają dobór membrany do określonego zastosowania.
In the paper, two types of nanofiltration polymeric membranes are examined using modern techniques including zeta potential measurement, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The authors argue that the presented techniques are suitable for the complementary determination of physicochemical properties of polymeric nanofiltration membranes and consequently give information necessary for the proper selection of amembrane for a particular application.

Theoretical background: Games are used in various fields beyond pure entertainment: education, health services or human resources. They are also considered one of the most rapidly growing trends in marketing. Using gamifiation to engage the consumer and increase his loyalty is commonly used in nearly all product categories. Playing games is fun and companies use it to attract and involve the consumers in their brands’ activities. In addition, the role of gamification in market research is increasing. It helps to understand consumer behaviour by inducing a more natural mood in the survey process, and increasing engagement and the cognitive accessibility of often hidden information. The effectiveness of gamification requires systematic verifiation in the experimental research. Researchers indicate the positive effect of gamified research on respondents’ engagement and efficiency.Purpose of the article: This article presents the current state of knowledge in the field of gamification in market research. Its main purpose is to share the author’s own research results which are the replication of former results showing the positive effects of gamified tasks used in surveys.Research methods: An experiment was conducted to verify the hypotheses regarding the increased effectiveness of gamified tasks compared to the regular approach as well as to the well-known projective techniques. A total of 132 participants were split into three groups: control, experimental 1 (projective techniques or simple gamification – addition of extra rules to regular questions) and experimental 2 (more complex, narrative and contextual tasks based on gamification).Main findings: The hypothesis was confirmed and the former effects were replicated – gamified tasks increase the respondents’ effectiveness compared to the standard tasks and also compared to the use of the well-known projective techniques.

Opis:
Artykuł przybliża problematykę badań nad korupcją. Umiejscawia zjawisko korupcji w obszarze nauk o bezpieczeństwie i obronności, wskazuje możliwe spektrum badawcze, określa cele i specyfikę badań naukowych związanych z tym zagadnieniem, a także prezentuje wybrane metody przeprowadzania badań zjawiska korupcji. Autorzy podkreślają znaczenie i wpływ tego rodzaju badań na system bezpieczeństwa państwa.
The article discusses problems with research on corruption in the context of security and defense sciences; what is more, it indicates possible areas of research, the aim and specifics of research on corruption, as well as describes chosen methods of research. Regarding either the wide scope of the issue or conditions having an influence on the research results, the authors of the article are trying to struggle with a range of approaches throughout a revision of the latest domestic and foreign publications. At the same time they paid attention to the role of such research for the state security system.

Opis:
The main tasks of the leading scientific centres in Poland, that is. universities, scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and research institutes are discussed. On the example of the Institute of Innovative Technologies EMAG changes adapting its role and tasks to the market environment has been shown. In short the genesis of EMAG and its 37 years of work - at the beginning as a research and development unit, recently as a research institute - is shown. Changes in approach to statutory activities and market activities in the aspect of the act on research institutes and trends in changes of the assessment of scientific units are discussed. Moreover, the existing legal conditions for public-private partnership in the context of the act on research institutes is discussed. In the end examples of achievements of the Institute of Innovative Technologies EMAG are mentioned.
