What kind of causality does the Aristotelian Prime Mover exert on the heaven? Who “loves” the Prime Mover? Renaissance peripatetic philosopher, Francesco Vimercato, a “royal” teacher of “Greek and Latin philosophy” in Paris during the forties and the fifties of the 16th century tried to resolve these traditional puzzles that resulted from the exegesis of the Metaphysics XII, 6–7. His solution appears to be innovative, if compared to the ancient and the medieval ones. It seems partially to prefigure the last two decades’ interpretations of Aristotelian “theology”.

Utilization of gas turbines on vessels is a reality. It was presented the examples of utilization on ships of United States Navy and the Rolls-Royce suggestion for sharing on merchant shipping. It was mentioned the advantages of gas turbine MT30 with nominal power 36 MW or 40 MW prepared for marine utilization. It was stated the characteristics of specific fuel consumption, the shaft power rating, the MT30 operating envelope with propeller characteristics as a power receiver. It was given propositions of vessel types for MT30 utilization. It was discussed the remarks on maintenance requirements and needed systems for upkeep the turbine in good technical state for the possibility of full nominal power independent on ambient temperature. It was discussed the requirements of emissions from exhaust gasses to the atmosphere in comparison gas turbines to diesel engines as a one of important problems for utilization engines as prime movers on vessels in merchant shipping. In the end, some final remarks with Rolls-Royce statements are presented.

This article aims to compile, describe and compare three different models taken from the literature describing the causes of explosions in the crankcases of marine engines. Each of the models has a different level of detail and was prepared with a different purpose. However, the same process, explosions in crankcases, was analyzed in all cases. A statistical evaluation of the frequency of events leading to explosions, a model built using failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and a model based on fault tree analysis (FTA) are described in turn. The FTA model drawn from the literature formed the basis for further analysis. Values of important measures of all elementary events of the fault tree were calculated using the Birnbaum reliability measure, Vesely-Fussell measure, Birnbaum structural measure, criticality measure and improvement potential. The percentage importance values of all events determined using these importance measures were compared. The results obtained from the application of each model were evaluated. The results of the models were compared with each other, and an approach using all three models supplemented with diversion analysis was proposed.

Gas turbines are used as marine prime movers but the market is dominated by the diesel engines (of course turbocharged but they are still diesels). The share of gas turbines is on a level of 4-5% in the worldwide shipping. It was presented the chosen parameters of Rolls-Royce gas turbine MT30 with nominal power 36 MW or 40 MW prepared for marine utilization. It is a good example of development of marine gas turbines with the trial to eliminate the effect of ambient temperature especially on turbine load. It was discussed the significance presented data for possibility of utilization on vessels. It was indicated the advantages and disadvantages of gas turbine sharing. It was mentioned the installation problems: pressure drop in inlet and outlet ducts on the accessible turbine power and specific fuel consumption. It was discussed what important parameters ought to be known for safe turbine operation and maintenance. There is a little information lack. The gas turbine ought not to be treat as a black box. In the end, some final remarks are presented.

The possibility of a first-mover advantage arises in a variety of strategic choices, including product introductions, business start-ups, and mergers and acquisitions. The strategic management literature reflects ambiguity regarding the likelihood that a first mover can or will capture additional value. This paper uses a real options approach to address the optimal timing of strategic moves. Previous studies have modeled real options using either a perpetual or a European financial option. With these models, a strategic choice could only be made either without respect to a time frame (perpetual) or at a fixed point in time (European option.) Neither case is realistic. Companies typically have strategic options with only a limited time frame due to market factors, but companies may choose to act at any time within that constraint. To reflect this reality, we adapt a method for valuing an American financial option on a dividend paying stock to the real options context. The method presented in this paper proposes a solution for the optimum value for a project that should trigger a strategic choice, and highlights the value lost by not acting optimally. We use simulation results to show that the time frame available to make a strategic choice has an important effect on both the project value for when action should be taken, as well as on the value of waiting to invest at the optimal time. The results presented in this paper help to clarify the ambiguity that is found in the strategic management literature regarding the possibility of obtaining a first-mover advantage. Indeed, a first mover that acts sub-optimally could incur losses or at least not gain any advantage. A first mover that waits to invest at the right time based on the superior information supplied by models based on real options could be better positioned to obtain the benefits that might come from the first move.

Artykuł ma na celu zbadanie wybranych aspektów zalecanej przez Dàodéjīng praktyki wéiwúwéi (為無為) poprzez spojrzenie na nią w różnych kontekstach. Postawionych jest pięć tez: (1) w Dàodéjīng czytamy o ontologicznej zasadzie głoszącej, że funkcjonalność bytu jest konstytuowana przez jego strukturę będącą niebytem; (2) wéiwúwéi może być realizowane jako inspiracja przykładem; (3) wéiwúwéi może być realizowane jako efekt transcedentalnej bądź psychologicznej transformacji podmiotu polegającej na wyzwoleniu sprawstwa z uwarunkowań; (4) wéiwúwéi może być realizowane jako przyzwolenie na błędy podwładnych; (5) proponowany przez Dàodéjīng ideał władcy charakteryzuje niska preferencja czasowa.
The article aims to explore some aspects of the wéiwúwéi (為無為) practice recommended by the Dàodéjīng by examining it in various contexts. Five theses are postulated: (1) we read in the Dàodéjīng about an ontological principle which states that the functionality of the entity is determined by its structure which is a nonentity; (2) wéiwúwéi can be performed by inspiring by personal example; (3) wéiwúwéi can be realized as a result of a transcendental or psychological transformation of the subject by liberating the agent from conditions; (4) wéiwúwéi can be performed as permission for the errors of one's subordinates; (5) The ideal ruler as proposed by the Dàodéjīng is characterized by low time preference.

The machine - called "EasyMover", saves the drudgery,especially in companies producingheavy rollable things. The typical roll of paper weighs 5 tons, the reel of a cable up to 15 tons. To move such an object in the storage room or distribution shed using manpower is drudgery, being dangerous as well. Due to this fact, the workers use a simple mechanical device powered by compressed air to move heavy reels. However, the air pressure hose is the main disadvantage of this solution: The free movement is restricted. Our task is to develop the same device (EasyMover), powered by an electrical motor and supplied by accumulators.
Maszyna nazwana "Easy Mover" oszczędza pracę, zwłaszcza w firmach produkujących ciężkie przedmioty, które można poruszać, tocząc je. Typowa rolka papieru waży 5 ton, zwój kabla 15 ton. Przemieszczanie takich obiektów w magazynach lub składach dystrybucyjnych siłami pracowników jest bardzo pracochłonne oraz niebezpieczne. W związku z tym robotnicy używają prostego urządzenia mechanicznego napędzanego sprężonym powietrzem, służącego do przemieszczania ciężkich krążków. Główną wadą tego rozwiązania jest przewód (wąż) wysokiego ciśnienia, który ogranicza swobodę ruchu. Naszym zadaniem jest opracowanie takiego urządzenia, które będzie napędzane silnikiem elektrycznym i zasilane prądem z akumulatora ("Easy Mover").

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a query aimed at assessing the validity of the topic of crankcase explosions prevention in the main marine engines. The study takes into account the engine type, engine manufacturer, ship’s age, accident severity, ship’s location at the time of the incident, and the share of fatal accidents in the analyzed population of crankcase explosions. One of the primary hazards associated with offshore and deep-sea ship operations – and primarily ship power plants – are fires and explosions that result in accidents and incidents with an average frequency of 60 days. This paper discusses the actuality of crankcase explosion hazards in the main propulsion engines of various types of sea vessels. The assessment was made based on the results of a statistical analysis of historical data from 1972 to 2018. The methodology consisted of three stages: (1) a selection query to obtain the source data, (2) analysis of the obtained results (data separation, extraction of additional information, and statistical analysis), (3) synthesis of the obtained information, and drawing conclusions about the numerical indicators describing the statistical distribution of individual events for the given evaluation criteria. The analysis showed that the risk of crankcase explosions affects ships of all ages – both in crosshead (31%) and trunk piston engines (61%) – and that the number of serious incidents (67%) remained constant over the investigated period. Half of all incidents occurred on vessels younger than 15 years old. 58% of explosions took place in engines of the most popular prime movers manufacturers. The probability that a main engine crankcase explosion will result in injury or death is 17.34%.

Opis:
In this article I present a philosophical considerations of theological heresy of presbyter Arius from the perspective of Aquinas’ criticism included in his works, with special honors Summa contra Gentiles. I show the role of Aristotle’s philosophy in creating the ancient Arianism, as well as its scholastic overcome. Analyzing the arguments of Arius, I familiarize myself with the concept of birthing Word as metaphysical substantial change, the transition from potency to act or movement perfecting. We are getting to know the thinking of Aquinas, exploring arguments of Alexandrian presbyter with the help of the same philosophy of Stagirite and winning this timeless intellectual startup.
