Opis:: This article looks at the language of politics. The author shows the military lexis which ish journalistic texts and statements of very politicians. According to the author this vocabulary used in the contemporary political discourse. He claims that this vocabulary carries a specific vision of the world: it metaphorically presents the policy as the war, political activists as members of the army, practicing the politics as the implementation of war strategies.

Opis:: In a verse of Act 23,23 in Biblia gdańska (1632) translated by Daniel Mikołajewski, an equivalent of Greek lexeme δεξιόλαβος ‘probably a spearman or slinger’, the noun drabant is used, which is unique, compared to its counterpart – oszczepnik – in Biblia translated by JakubWujek (1599). It may have been borrowed from the Czech language in the second half of the 16th century. In the Polish language of the time it was not a very widespread lexeme, maybe of erudite nature. It appeared in the text of Biblia gdańska taken from the Czech Biblia kralicka. Among Protestants at that time, as a military term, it could have evoked associations with the religious Hussite Wars. The lexeme drabant survived in the biblical text of the Evangelist circles until the second half of the twentieth century. Given the fact that in that century it was already an archaic word, it was not used in new testament translations which followed the translational tradition of Biblia gdańska. And probably it became fixed in the consciousness of the faithful of Evangelist churches as a memorable reminder of the past. For centuries that lexeme, along with other lexemes characteristic of Biblia gdańska caused lexical distinctiveness of that Evangelist translation compared to the Catholic translation by Jakub Wujek.

Opis:: This article is intended to approximate arrangements for features characteristic writing of Prus, from the publication of monographs, which appeared in the last decade, after 2006, because they are not as well known as the earlier comments on writer’s idolect placed even in studies Bystroń or Bachórz. Notes on writing of Prus has been divided into several thematic areas: vocabulary topography (depicting the formation of landscape, the author’s preferred method of constructing space and filling it with specific object), color names (the world of colours, which enabled the writer to expose an entire palette of colour and shade names), floral vocabulary, used by the writer, war and military (this article contains an overview of the functions of military language within nomina militaria in the works of Bolesław Prus for example) and trade vocabulary.

Opis:: This paper discusses the issues of conceptualisation of the notion of (weather) in terms of its profi ling from the viewpoint of public servants (military personnel and diplomats). The analysis covers the 17th-century diary by J.A. Chrapowicki and the 19th-century memoirs by J. Załuski and the 20thcentury ones by W. Anders. A gradual reduction of the diversity of meteorological vocabulary was found in the examined period. The profi ling of the notion of (weather) has persisted with reference to the following aspects: weather as a hindrance, as a destructive power; the winter weather as a time that is hard to survive. The idea of winter weather as the time of rest from war has disappeared.
