Opis:
The main purpose of the study is to verify the hypothesis on the occurrence of a long-term relationship between the average prices of 1m2 UFA (i.e. Usable Floor Area) and the construction costs of residential real estate per 1m2 for selected 5 cities of Eastern Poland (Białystok, Kielce, Lublin, Olsztyn & Rzeszów). The panel model for cointegrated variables and panel cointegration tests are the tools of the analysis. On the basis of the econometric model constructed, the long-term elasticity coefficient, which shows how average prices of flats change (i.e. the price of 1m2 UFA) in selected cities of Eastern Poland as a result of changes in their production costs, was estimated.

Opis:
How we mate and who we find attractive is not accidental. This is subject to the rules based mostly on the principle saying that ‘similarities attract’. The rules concern primarily the candidates we choose for long-term relationships. One of the rules, homogamy, means looking for a partner with a similar socio-economic status. Today, however, rather than socio-economic conditions, cultural similarity is becoming more important in choice making: the importance of similar education and joint interests is growing. The aim of the presented studies was to analyze the influence of socio-cultural gender on choosing a partner. The following questions were asked: What is the gender type of Poles? Is there any connection between Poles’ gender and being in a stable relationship or being single? Does gender diversify women’s and men’s expectations of their partners? What expectations have women and men representing the same gender of men and women respectively? The studies presented in this article were carried out in 2010 on the representative sample of 2306 adult Poles. Their results show diversity and diversification of expectations of women and men representing different gender types. The analysis revealed that psychological traits, social competence, and appearance are more important than economic status in assessing a partner’s attractiveness. The results show also that qualities expected of a partner depend not only on sex, but also on gender. Sex remains a factor diversifying almost all the analyzed qualities contributing to a person’s social attractiveness, but including gender in the analysis revealed even bigger diversification of expectations of partners among representatives of the same sex.

Opis:
The progressive process of ageing of contemporary societies and the increase in life expectancy related to the process result in a steady rise in the number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s. The disease is becoming a serious problem for a growing number of families who need to provide constant, long-term care for Alzheimer’s patients. The article presents the results of a research conducted among the participants of support groups for Alzheimer’s families. The purpose of the research was to grasp the way in which the presence of an Alzheimer’s patient in a family influences interactions, family relations and functioning of the family. The conclusions presented in the article are related to such problems as a sense of moral duty to provide the patient with care, changes in the structure of a family caused by Alzheimer’s disease, relations between the patient and their main caregiver, problems of acting as a caregiver, the influence of Alzheimer’s disease on family relations and bonds.

Opis:
The paper shows how the original semi endogenous and balanced growth model of Phelps (1966), and my extended version of it (Gomulka, 1990), could be useful in explaining the key ‘stylized facts’ of global long-term growth so far, and in predicting its dynamics in the future. During the last two centuries the sector of R&D and education, producing qualitative changes, has been expanding in the world’s most developed countries much faster than the sector producing conventional goods. The extended model is used to explore and evaluate. the consequences for the global long-term growth of the end of this unbalanced growth, of the completion of the catching up by most of the world’s less developed countries, and of the expected eventual stabilization of the size of the world population. The theory yields a thesis, new in the literature, that the rate of global per capita GDP growth will eventually return to the historically standard very low level, thus implying that the world’s technological revolution is going to be an innovation super-fluctuation.
