    Opis:
    In article I propose taking a look at the Mount Ślęża in Poland in the context of Pierre Nora’s lieux de mémoire concept. Ślęża is an important heritage site as although it has been the topic of many studies and scientific investigations, interest in this unusual mountain goes well beyond scientific discourse. This paper focuses on not only what Ślęża meant to prehistoric people but mainly on its contemporary significance, with specific attention to the various functions that it fulfils today. By revealing the breadth of discourses on Ślęża and highlighting its vitality and relevance in the lives of many people, it also attmpts to put forward a dialogue between archaeologists, heritage professionals and groups holding alternative views on the current meaning or role of the Mount Ślęża.

    Artykuł jest próbą zestawienia relacji z podróży do Polski – powieści graficznej Nie pojedziemy zobaczyć Auschwitz Jérémiego Dresa oraz mikropowieści Henri’ego Raczymowa Dziesięć „polskich” dni i pokazania za ich pośrednictwem dwóch różnych sposobów budowania pamięci żydowskich emigrantów we Francji. Skontrastowanie dwóch różnych pokoleń postpamięci i dwóch różnych spojrzeń na Warszawę, Kraków, „żydowska Polskę”, pozwala na zaobserwowanie trans-generacyjnych przekształceń, jakie zachodzą w strukturze pamięci i ich przełożenia na sposób narracji.
    The objective of the article is to compare two stories about journeys to Poland – graphic novel We won’t see Auschwitz of Jérémie Dres and a short novel of Henri Raczymow – Ten « polish » days. The author tries to analyse two diff erent ways of building a jewish memory of French immigrants during their visit and to compare two perceptions of Warsaw, Cracov and « jewish emptiness ». The results of this analysis allow to make important remarks about transgenerational transformations in memory structure.

    Dyskusja dotycząca włączenia idei miejsc pamięci we współczesną teorię konserwatorską, a co za tym idzie także w działania praktyczne oraz tworzenie długoterminowych polityk konserwatorskich, jest istotna dla przyszłości ochrony dziedzictwa.
    The discussion on the applicability of the idea of places of memory in the contemporary theory of conservation, and by extension, in practice and in establishing long-term conservation policies, is vital for the future of heritage protection. The aim of this article is to present the evolving understanding of memory by the authors of conservation theories and doctrines. The first part is concerned with the results of linguistic analyses which suggest that thinking in terms of signs and places of memory is deeply linked to the emergence of conservation attitudes in the history of European culture. What follows is an overview of the transformations of the cultural status of monuments from the Enlightenment to the present day, focused on the concept of historical monuments (Voltaire, J. J. Winckelmann), on the problem of the intentionality of monuments and relativisation of the criteria used for their assessment (A. Riegl), as well as on the influence of the idea of lieux de mémoire by P. Nora on the contemporary understanding of heritage and the principles of protecting it.

    The following article addresses the usefulness of Noraʼs concept of a ʻsite of memoryʼ for the preservation and interpretation of those historic buildings and structures which already enjoy legal protection as monument. First, the denotations of Pierre Noraʼs notion of lieux de mémoire and Alois Rieglʼs concept of a Denkmal (or monument) are juxtaposed. Second, the paper presents the methodological problems involved in studying sites of memory, and offers guidelines inspired by Aleida and Jan Assmanʼs works on cultural memory. Third, these theoretical notions are then related to practical experience gathered while completing a project devoted to “Church of Peace in Jawor as a site of memory”; insights from the project lead to conclusions regarding the possibility of studying the social aspects of built heritage conservation. The conclusion of the paper identifies the characteristics and features of lieux de mémoire which may assist in the identification of places of memory from the perspective of heritage protection.
    Poniższy artykuł dotyczy przydatności koncepcji "miejsc pamięci" Nory w zachowaniu i interpretacji tych historycznych budynków i struktur, które już korzystają z ochrony prawnej jako zabytki. Po pierwsze, zestawiono denotacje pojęcia lieux de mémoire Pierre'a Nory i pojęcia Denkmal (lub monumentu) Aloisa Riegla. Po drugie, w artykule przedstawiono problemy metodologiczne związane z badaniem miejsc pamięci i zaproponowano wskazówki inspirowane pracami Aleidy i Jana Assmanów na temat pamięci kulturowej. Po trzecie, te teoretyczne koncepcje są następnie odnoszone do praktycznych doświadczeń zebranych podczas realizacji projektu "Kościół Pokoju w Jaworze jako miejsce pamięci"; spostrzeżenia z projektu prowadzą do wniosków dotyczących możliwości badania społecznych aspektów konserwacji dziedzictwa budowlanego. W podsumowaniu artykułu wskazano cechy i właściwości lieux de mémoire, które mogą być pomocne w identyfikacji miejsc pamięci z perspektywy ochrony dziedzictwa.

    Punktem wyjścia rozważań jest teoria miejsc pamięci Pierre’a Nory, a także jej potencjał interpretacyjny w materii filmu i przestrzeni. Zestawienie tej teorii z wątkami przestrzeni wyobrażonej i wykreowanej mentalnie z technicznymi i formalnymi uwarunkowaniami sztuki filmowej będzie wstępem do dalszych analiz wybranych przykładów. Interesuje mnie twórczość filmowa Piera Paolo Pasoliniego, w której te zagadnienia pojawiają się z wyjątkową wyrazistością. Jak będę starał się to wykazać, w sposób szczególny przepracowywał on zagadnienie przestrzeni i czasu w filmowej narracji. Omawiając pierwszy okres twórczości tego reżysera, będę starał się przedstawić kilka intrygujących formalnie rozwiązań, które zastosował Pasolini w filmowym problematyzowaniu konwencji czasoprzestrzeni.
    The analysis of the Pierre Nora’s theory of memory sites is the starting point of my article. I found it extremely relevant to both the film studies and space related issues. After compiling that theory with the chosen threads of the imaginary and mental space, technical and formal conditions of film art, I will move towards particular examples of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s films. In this context his output seems very interesting since in the films he elaborated on such issues as the space-time, memory, the blend of mythical, archaic and modern space. Discussing the first period of his film production I will show some of the intriguing formal devices Pasolini used to question the conventional filmic space-time.

    Autorka prezentuje film w reżyserii Pawła Łozińskiego pt. Miejsce urodzenia (1992) w kategoriach wielowymiarowego miejsca pamięci, które to, jako swego rodzaju praca dokonywana na materiale przeszłości, z definicji ma charakter obiektu w działaniu, performatywu. Omawia film wykorzystując koncepcje afektu, kultury traumy oraz autorstwa kolaboratywnego. Film jawi się jako: komparatystyczne miejsce pamięci, archiwum, katalizator doświadczenia traumatycznego, translator traumy, performatyw przekształcający nie-miejsce pamięci w mnemotopos – w zależności od perspektywy/statusu instancji autorskiej.
    The author presents the film directed by Paweł Łoziński, Place of Birth (Miejsce Urodzenia, 1992), in the categories of a multidimensional memory place, which, as a sort of work done on the material of the past, can be characterized by definition as an object in action, a performative. She describes the movie using the concepts of affect, trauma culture and collaborative authorship. The movie is presented as: a comparative place of memory, an archive, trauma experience catalyst, trauma translator, a performative shaping a non-memory place into a mnemotopos – depending on the perspective/status of the author instance.

    The aim of this article is to reconstruct the course of the process of creation and development of the myth of Shipka in Bulgarian collective consciousness. The study offers an analysis of literary texts, monuments and rituals intended to reproduce the memory of events related to the peak. In doing so, it provides a description of how the site of memory was created, and how the symbolism and meanings given to Shipka developed through cultural texts and rituals serving to cultivate the myth associated with it. The author describes this myth in the context of the struggle for symbolic space, involving the creation of two separate narratives (Russian and Bulgarian) concerning the same historical event.
    Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja przebiegu procesu kreacji i rozwoju mitu Szipki w bułgarskiej świadomości zbiorowej. Podstawę pracy stanowi analiza tekstów literackich, pomników oraz rytuałów mających reprodukować pamięć o wydarzeniach związanych ze szczytem. W artykule scharakteryzowany został przebieg powstawania miejsca pamięci, a także rozwój symboliki i znaczeń nadawanych Szipce poprzez teksty kultury oraz rytuały służące kultywowaniu związanego z nią mitu. Autor opisuje ów mit w kontekście walki o przestrzeń symboliczną, polegającej na kreowaniu dwóch odrębnych narracji (rosyjskiej i bułgarskiej) dotyczących tego samego wydarzenia historycznego.
