The research team sought to develop learning media of Indonesian history based on the historical reproduction of replicas of historical heritage objects and electronic pen (e-pen) maps. In general, the objective of this research is to develop and produce learning media of Indonesian history to raise students’ historical consciousness. An instructional media company, “Pudak Scientific,” is involved in aiding in developing and producing history learning media. A multi-year research and development approach was adopted, in which the first year focused on developing the model/prototype of the learning media in question, whereas the second year was concerned with building the product prototypes, production trials and field validation in high school. The learning media under development is in the form of i) replicas of historical objects in prehistoric era, ii) replicas of historical objects during the Hindu Buddhist era, iii) replicas of historical objects during the Islamic Empire, and e-pen maps of three historical periods of Indonesia. Replicas and e-pen maps serve as a medium to assist students in raising their historical consciousness.

Media-based learning does not necessarily make sense nor is it necessarily effective, for that matter, simply because it uses a medium. Rather, there are several variables that can and do influence its success: the very medium, the content, and the learner’s cognitive styles. All variables have to be taken into consideration, alone and interacting, in order to decide whether and where media-based learning is to be used, and where it might be counterproductive.

The basic characteristics of social media mirror much of the rhetoric and thinking aro-und educational reform in the modern world context. The basic cultural relevance of social media to young people enables them to learn how to bring their social life into the matrix of school activities. It also provides young learners with different audiences for different activities. Today, social media are probably the critical component in enabling individuals, both teachers and learners, to construct their own personal learning networks. Joining, building, growing and managing digital communities, whether relatively open or relatively closed, enables teachers and learners to connect with others with similar interests and to learn from other participants in those communities.

Opis:
Axiocentric teaching and learning about media is one of the ways of media teaching and learning that emphasizes the values and evaluation process in relation to the media and its products (Kačinová, 2015). The focus of the educational process is on the formation of personality through the media. It also pays attention to the value orientations and value systems of individuals in the context of media presentations and to those developed under the influence of the media or during interaction with it. At the same time, this kind of media teaching and learning cultivates the critical thinking of pupils in the interaction with the value representations promoted by the media, thus revealing the intentions of media content creators in this area. This kind of media learning leads directly to the essence of media education being perceived as an educational topic in the content of school education. The main aim of our study is to provide a theoretical background to this topic and present the results of empirical research which focused on an analysis of case studies of school practice, observation of teaching and interviews with teachers, through which we demonstrate ways of implementing axiocentric teaching and learning about media in selected Slovak schools. At the end of the paper, we clarify the importance of the educational process for the development of the individual in their interaction with the media.

Opis:
In today’s digital reality, media information skills are becoming the key ones for every member of society. Hence, media education is becoming increasingly important. Ukraine has already had some positive achievements in the development of media education. The purpose of this research is to analyze and systematize the experience of media education in Ukraine. There was used a set of research methods: a theoretical method for literature review, identification of criteria for analysis, method of selecting relevant information and interpreting results, method of systematization, and prognostic to outline further prospects for media education and learning in Ukraine. According to the criteria (historical, methodical, prognostic), the activities of five Ukrainian media education centers were singled out and described: the Institute of Social and Political Psychology, the Institute of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine (Kyiv), the Institute of Media Ecology (Lviv), the Academy of Press of Ukraine (Kyiv) and the College of Press and Television (Mykolaiv). The history of their creation, features of development, and implementation of scientific-educational-methodical support were analyzed, the directions of their further activity were outlined. It was found out that all the centers are similar in their media education mission. At the same time, their differences are manifested in the practical implementation of media education. Prospects for further research on media education and learning in the conditions of distance learning were identified.
Zgodnie z kryteriami (historycznymi, metodologicznymi, prognostycznymi) wyodrębniono i opisano działalność pięciu ukraińskich ośrodków edukacji medialnej: Instytutu Psychologii Społecznej i Politycznej, Instytutu Szkolnictwa Wyższego Narodowej Akademii Nauk Pedagogicznych Ukrainy (Kijów), Instytutu Ekologii Informacji Masowej (Lwów), Akademii Prasy Ukrainy (Kijów) oraz Kolegium Prasy i Telewizji (Mikołajów).

Getting to know, learning remains still one of the most important processes in human life, today, however, it is becoming a whole-life project. At the same time multimedia are gaining more and more powerful position in this process, we can observe transfer from direct learning towards the one that is media related. One may say that on one hand it is a great opportunity to learn from the distance about people, nature, things that one would not be able to reach but on the other, it may also seem as an escape from making efforts in order to get to know the real world. Therefore we pose this question – is it new quality and opportunity or new difficulty and threat, some new convergence or fragmentation? Research shows some difficulty and elusiveness of results, the youth learn about the world in this mediated way on a large scale, some people eagerly follow this path and some stay in virtual world. What is certain is the need for new convergent education which will constantly reinforce concerns to learn in a real way that is already supported to great extent by online education. The balance remains a great pedagogical concern...

Nowadays, social media are dominating the life of people. Facebook has become noticeably widespread among the youth, and students in particular. Research has indicated that Facebook could be an effective platform for language learning. This study, therefore, comes to explore the effects of Facebook-assisted teaching on learning English for specific purposes by students at the University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. A sample of 64 students from the Faculty of Business Administration, taking a Business Letters course in English, were divided into a Facebook-tutored group and a traditional classroom tutored group and were given the same vocabulary content. The two groups were given pre- and post-tests to measure their vocabulary learning, and were subjected to an interview to gauge their attitudes towards the instructional methods which were put to use. However, no significant difference between the two groups was found in terms of achievement in spite of the positive response and the high satisfaction level the Facebook-tutored students showed towards the use of such a platform.

There has been a call in recent years for an integration of cognitive load theory into instructed second language acquisition practices to assist language learners by taking advantage of theories on human cognitive architecture. This paper seeks to move the conversation on how this integration might be achieved by presenting findings from survey data conducted with learners enrolled online courses at a cyber-university in South Korea (n = 68). Findings show a statistically significant positive relationship between distraction and extraneous load. These results are used to postulate a model for explaining the how the effects of extraneous load on attention can be integrated into second language learning theory. Pedagogic implications of this are the value of explicitly signaling key vocabulary and grammar, ensure spatial and temporal considerations are made when using multimodal instruction, and placing learners at the center of decisions on the blend of media they experience in instruction.

The aim of this study is to present the selected findings of a research into the cooperation of The News Agency of the Slovak Republic with individual types of schools in the Slovak Republic, as well as to create a systematic overview of the current state and trends in this area. We have decided to examine the topic and illustrate its relation to individual types of schools in Slovakia as, within the conditions of the Slovak Republic, it still remains an unexplored area. This is one of the first comprehensive research tasks in Slovakia, which attempts to answer the questions concerning press agencies and schools within the context of media literacy development. The aim of this study is to analyze the cooperation of The News Agency of the Slovak Republic with individual types of school in Slovakia over the period of 2012-2016. We focus on the quantitative and qualitative analyses of secondary data created in the reviewed period within the framework of this cooperation. The second aim of the study is to present the results of research carried out at primary and elementary schools, the aim of which was to find out about the ways educational institutions utilize the services of the press agency within the concept of learning-by-doing when teaching media education. The research sample consisted of 2,164 elementary schools and 794 secondary schools from all regions of the Slovak Republic. We addressed these schools with an 11-item questionnaire examining the quantitative and qualitative aspects of cooperation with the public service News Agency of the Slovak Republic. At the same time, we analyzed the data created within this cooperation over the years 2012-2016. The news service provided by The News Agency of the Slovak Republic represents a tool used at Slovak primary schools, especially in the preparation of school media, as well as at teaching media education and other subjects. Nevertheless, the intensity of its use is undersized and there are still quite a number of schools that do not use this valuable service in their educational activities at all.
