Opis:
Comparative analysis of two profiles (Gvoznitsa, Malorita district, southwestern Belarus and Krępiec, Lublin Upland, eastern Poland) of Alexandrian and/or Mazovian (=Likhvinian, Holsteinian) age shows different diatom successions which are correlated with pollen data. Various species of Cyclotella, Stephanodiscus and Aulacoseira predominate at Gvoznitsa, while the diatom flora at Krępiec is more diverse and includes also Synedra, Asterionella, and Fragilaria taxa. Certain apparently extinct taxa of Cyclotella (C. comta var. lichvinensis (Jousé) Loginova, C. comta var. pliocaenica Krasske, C. temperiana (Loginova) Loginova, C. michiganiana var. parvula Loginova (C. parvula Loginova), are typical of the Mazovian and/or Alexandrian Interglacial.

Opis:
Rainfall in the Lake Tana basin is highly seasonal and the base flow contribution is also low resulting in the need for reservoirs to meet the agricultural demand during the dry season. Water demand competition is increasing because of intense agricultural production. The objective of this study is to develop water balance models. The Mike Basin model has been selected for water allocation modelling and identifying potential changes needed to the existing water allocation scheme to reduce the stress due to increased water demand. The study considers baseline and future development scenarios. The construction of new dams results in two competing effects with respect to evaporation loss. The first effect is increased evaporation from new reservoirs, while the other is reduced evaporation from the Lake Tana as a result of a decreased surface area of the lake and reduced inflow of water to the lake. Once a dam is built, there will be an additional free water surface area and more evaporation loss. In dry months from January to May, the irrigation water demand deficit is up to 16 Mm3. It is caused by reservoirs built in the basin, which reduce the inflow to the Lake Tana. The inflow varies between wet and dry months, and there is more water flow in wet months (July, August and September) and reduced flow in dry months because of the regulatory effects produced by the reservoirs.

Opis:
This article focuses on the diatom assemblages and geochemical composition of sediment cores retrieved from the Pomeranian Bay. We also discuss similarities and differences in the diatom assemblages and the palaeogeographic development of nearby regions. Our main objective was to determine the characteristics and rate of the Littorina transgression in the Pomeranian Bay area. Sediments were divided into units based on differences in the distribution of diatom ecological groups and in geochemical ratios, such as Mg/Ca, Na/K and Fe/Mn. This study identified lacustrine sediments deposited during the time of the Ancylus Lake. This lacustrine-period sedimentation took place in a shallow lake under aerobic conditions. The record of the onset of marine environment dates to 8900–8300 cal BP and corresponds to the Littorina transgression. After about 8300 cal BP, sedimentation took place in a deeper marine environment with higher biogenic production and anaerobic conditions. The abrupt appearance of marine diatom species and increased geochemical salinity indicators reflect the large impact of the Littorina transgression on the Pomeranian Bay environment.
