The time of the coronavirus pandemic and the COVID-19 disease was an opportunity to ask anew many questions concerning interpersonal relations. In this context, Pope Francis tries to take up the therapy of fraternity in order to effectively and consistently contrast the “globalization of indifference” with the “globalization of fraternity and solidarity.” The aim of this article is to show the essence of fraternity in the teaching of Pope Francis (before the publication of papal encyclical letter Fratelli tutti about fraternity) in the context of the teaching of the Catholic Church. The article presents the biblical roots of fraternity as well as its inclinations in the Magisterium of the Second Vatican Council and subsequent popes. The reinterpretation of the term “fraternity” in Francis’ thought includes: the “mysticism of the fraternity,” its inter-religious and social character, its global fraternity on the level of bioethics and ecology, and its connection to the “theory of contradictions” (Germ.: Gegensatz), which the Pope took from R. Guardini.

Czas pandemii koronawirusa i choroby COVID-19 był okazją do postawienia na nowo wielu pytań, dotyczących relacji międzyludzkich. W tym kontekście Papież Franciszek próbuje podjąć terapię braterstwem, aby „globalizacji obojętności” skutecznie i konsekwentnie przeciwstawiać „globalizację braterstwa i solidarności”. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie istoty braterstwa w nauczaniu papieża Franciszka w kontekście nauczania Kościoła katolickiego. W artykule zostają przedstawione biblijne korzenie braterstwa, a także jego inklinacje w magisterium Soboru Watykańskiego II i kolejnych papieży. Reinterpretacja terminu „braterstwo” w myśli Franciszka obejmuje: „mistykę braterstwa”, jego charakter międzyreligijny i społeczny, globalne braterstwo na płaszczyźnie bioetyki i ekologii oraz powiązanie z „teorią przeciwieństw” (niem. Gegensatz), którą papież zaczerpnął od R. Guardiniego.

In this context, Pope Francis proposes fraternity therapy to effectively and consistently oppose “globalization of indifference” and “globalization of brotherhood and solidarity”. The purpose of the article is to show the essence of brotherhood in the teaching of Pope Francis in the context of the teaching of the Catholic Church. The article presents the biblical roots of brotherhood, as well as its inclinations in the magisterium of the Second Vatican Council and subsequent popes. Among the countless number of smaller or bigger social groups existing over the centuries, religious fraternities deserve our particular attention . Their origins go back to the beginning of Christian times. Confraternities were erected by church authorities, functioned in the churches subordinate to bishops or religious orders. They had their own spiritual director and realized their own public, religious, and social aims contained in the statutes. In medieval western Europe, fraternities were a common phenomenon. In Poland they first appeared in the 13th century in Silesia. The post-Tridentine period saw their most dynamic „development” in Poland and in the whole of the Catholic Church. They became important factors of church regeneration and the level of universal influence on the spiritual awareness of society, and played a crucial role in the struggle against Protestantism. The development of fraternities in the end of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries was closely connected with the development of Marian cult and the cult of the saints. Those fraternities which were well organized, and those bearing the character of religious communities, often had their own altar, chapels, and priests. In the period of the 17th-18th century four religious fraternities were in Urzędów, a town which was the seat of decanate with the same, and which belonged at that time to the Zawichost archdeaconry and the Cracow diocese. Urzędów was a royal town established and located in 1405 by King Vladislav Jagiello. It was a seat of the administrative unit and belonged to the Lublin region. Three of the Urzędów fraternities are the best known confraternities and popular at that time in Poland: Literary Fraternity, Fraternity of St. Ann, and the Rosary Fraternity. Aside to the above, there was for a short period the Fraternity of St. Sebastian which existed nowhere else. The Fraternity of St. Ann in Urzędów was erected in 1593 on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. It was officially approved by the Lvov archbishop J.D. Solikowski in 1594. The founders and first benefactors of the confraternities were burghers from Urzędów. The fraternity had a side altar devoted to St. Ann. It was spread in Poland first of all by Bernardins and its main task was to discuss with infidels. In practice, however, in the 17th and 18th centuries it had a devotional character. In the initial stage of the confraternity of St. Ann congregations were held four times a years, whereas at the end of the 17th century they were organized annually only twice. Every Tuesday the representatives of the fraternity were obliged to participate in a weekly votive mass to the honour of St. Ann, receive the sacrament of reconciliation and Eucharist, above all to the late fellows friars. During the masses and congregations they collected money on behalf of their association and the church for wax, candles and missal wine. In the Fraternity of St. Ann in Urzędów the administrative functions were held by two trusted members, mostly representatives of the magistrate authorities and, as a rule, rich people, called provisories or seniors. The Fraternity of St. Ann gained their basic funds from voluntary collections raised among fellow friars at masses and congregations, and the money donated and then invested in the burghers' estates, thereby bringing yearly interest. The dusk of the Fraternity of St. Ann occurred in the end of the 1780s when the majority of its legates were provided to build a parish church.

One of the significant issues in Pope Francis's teachings is the culture of encounter. This is the opposite of the culture of rejection which is becoming more and more common. The phenomenon of marginalization of people because of different reasons has been known to the human civilization for ages but nowadays is becomes more widespread. According to Pope Francis, the main indications and the same time causes of the throwaway culture are: fake devotion, egoism, fear, selection, indifference, treating the old as a burden, discrimination, aversion to foreigners, war, death penalty. The Holy Father lists also the countermeasures against exclusion. These are: realizing that we were all created by the same Creator, reminding of human dignity, human solidarity, devoting time to others, acceptance, opening the heart to other people's needs.

The article presents the analysis fraternity in Orthodox Church in Poland, Ukrainian and Belarusian. Author, speak about genesis orthodox fraternity in Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. W artykule przeanalizowano dyskusję naukową trwającą od połowy XIX w. do chwili obecnej, dotyczącą powstania bractw cerkiewnych. Autor omówił teorie wyjaśniające genezę bractw cerkiewnych w Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów. Artykuł odpowiada na pytanie dotyczące pojawienia się pierwszych bractw na terenie metropolii kijowskiej. Analizę teorii naukowych poparto literaturą ukraińskich, rosyjskich i polskich historyków Cerkwi prawosławnej. W artykule opracowano i zdefiniowano teorie: miłości chrześcijańskiej, bratczyn, bractw miodowych, cechów zachodnioeuropejskich oraz powstanie bractw na wzór podobnych organizacji w Kościele rzymskokatolickim. Dodatkowo autor zdefiniował i wyjaśnił termin „bractwo cerkiewne”.

After World War II documentation of archive of the Konwent Polonia was dispersed. Currently, it is gathered in three institutions: The Archdiocesan Archive of Warsaw, The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius and The Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum in London. This study presents a Vilnius collection - both structure of the archival fond and the information value of gathered archival units. It is extremely useful for researchers - particularly in the context of the lack of online inventories, as well as factual mistakes committed during the archival description of the records gathered there. This archival fond consists of 404 units and it is one of the most important sources for the history of both the Konwent Polonia and polish fraternities. Especially that most of fraternities archives were destroyed, and the total number of members of all academic fraternities until the outbreak of World War II was at least over a twelve thousand.

John Paul II addressed the issue of social problems very often in his teaching. Concerned about mankind and its universal development, he courageously spoke out on economics, management and politics. A remarkable place in the set of social problems raised by the Pope takes a process of globalisation. John Paul II first expounds on the cultural and ethical aspects of globalisation. If globalisation is for the good and progress of the human person, it must be a morally responsible process. It can be achieved through the realisation of solidarity, justice and fraternity that are a principle of coexistence, both in the individual and in the social dimension. Globalisation, like any other social phenomenon, is not an end in itself. It has a human purpose and must be a means and an effective instrument for building the good of the entire human family.

Autor analizuje encyklikę Fratelli tutti papieża Franciszka i pokazuje, jak idee braterstwa i przyjaźni społecznej bliskie są postawie ekumenicznej. Papieski opis współczesnego kryzysu jest zgodny z analizami socjologicznymi: doświadczenie samotności i niepewności w relacjach społecznych, dominacja ekonomicznego wymiaru globalizacji i przemiany komunikacji społecznej – to cechy obecnego systemu, których dysfunkcjonalność ujawniła pandemia Covid-19. Realizacja nowej idei proponowanej przez Franciszka – rozwijania braterstwa i przyjaźni społecznej – będzie możliwa między innymi dzięki budowaniu kultury spotkania i odwagi dialogu, jakie praktykowane są w ruchu ekumenicznym.
The author analyses Pope Francis' encyclical Fratelli tutti and shows how the ideas of fraternity and social friendship are close to an ecumenical attitude. The papal description of the contemporary crisis is consistent with sociological analyses: the experience of loneliness and uncertainty in social relations, the domination of the economic dimension of globalization and the transformation of social communication - these are the features of the current system, whose dysfunctionality was revealed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of the new idea proposed by Francis - the development of fraternity and social friendship - will be possible, among other things, by building a culture of encounter and the courage of dialogue that is practiced in the ecumenical movement.

This article studies the family in the recent Magisterium and in Franciscan spirituality. Besides being recognized as the basis of society and its first school, the family is also proposed as a model to express some theological realities and fundamental human values. The paper begins by showing the importance of the concept of family in the Magisterium (1st part) and then it studies how the Franciscans have assumed it in their way of understanding themselves, in their legislation and in the exercise of authority (2nd part). Finally, the third part focuses on the Franciscan vision of creation as a cosmic family.
Niniejszy artykuł analizuje rodzinę w najnowszym Magisterium i w duchowości franciszkańskiej. Oprócz tego, że jest uznawana za podstawę społeczeństwa i jego pierwszą szkołę, rodzina jest również proponowana jako model do wyrażania pewnych rzeczywistości teologicznych i podstawowych wartości ludzkich. Artykuł rozpoczyna się od ukazania znaczenia koncepcji rodziny w Magisterium (część pierwsza), a następnie analizuje, w jaki sposób franciszkanie przyjęli ją w swoim sposobie rozumienia siebie, w swoim prawodawstwie i w sprawowaniu władzy (część druga). Wreszcie trzecia część koncentruje się na franciszkańskiej wizji stworzenia jako kosmicznej rodziny.

Fraternity and paternity are two concepts that have appeared frequently in recent documents of the Church’s Teaching Office. They are meant to bring closer the complex structure of the relationships that exist between the individual members of the Church. Their spiritual understanding is based not on abstraction, but on the biological experience known to man. Paternity and fraternity are concepts related to family and social life, and when applied to religious space, they do not retain their universal and fundamental understanding. In his paper, the author analyses some premises of liberal concept of equality and its philosophical origins. He attempted to show affinities and differences between liberal and conservative approaches to legal equality. He argues that economic inequality is compatible with political and legal liberties within conservative political philosophy. Victorian lawyer James Fitzjames Stephen proved that fraternity is an ambiguous ideal conceived from utilitarian perspective mainly because that it would be political naïvete to expect love from our citizens instead of justice and respect.

In the face of rising secularization and the waning influence of the Church, contemporary pastoral theology encounters both a formidable challenge and an enticing opportunity in the postmodern era. This article explores how enhanced interdisciplinary engagement of pastoral theology can foster a renewed approach to evangelization aligned with contemporary sensibilities. Through a comprehensive literature review, we shed light on the experiences of the postmodern individual. By applying the analogy method and anchoring the concepts of “Logos Spermaticos” and “Influence and Vulnerability” in pastoral theology, we reveal its potential contribution to the interdisciplinary evolution of the concept of universal fraternity. The analysis shows that interdisciplinary collaboration in pastoral theology unfolds developmental prospects on two levels – learning from and learning with other disciplines. The “Logos Spermaticos” concept underscores the importance of acquiring new skills, empowering pastoral workers to communicate Christian doctrine more effectively. Simultaneously, the “Influence and Vulnerability” concept fosters a dialogical approach, positioning pastoral theology as a respected interlocutor in contemporary interdisciplinary dialogues. Collaborative efforts with other disciplines empower pastoral theology to foster dialogue and deepen the idea of universal fraternity, both in academic discourse and practical application. The interdisciplinary and global development of fraternal humanism represents the necessary “loosening of the soil” for the seed of the Word of God to sprout in the future. Therefore, it becomes imperative for pastoral theology to transcend its conventional role, actively engaging in interdisciplinary dialogue, thereby charting a course toward an elevated societal role and innovative avenues for proclaiming the Gospel.

In der Zeit vor der Teilung wirkten in Wieluń 13 Bruderschaften: an der Kollegiatkirchen - 6 (Priesterbruderschaft, Bruderschaft der HI. Katharina, Bruderschaft der Hl. Dreifaltigkeit, Rosenkranzbruderschaft, Bruderschaft des HI. Jan Nepomuk, Gemeinschaft der barmherzigen Brüder), am Augustinerkloster -3 (Bruderschaft der HI. Anna, Bruderschaft der Gottesmutter vom Trost, Bruderschaft der Hl. Thekla), am Paulinerkloster -2 (Schutzengelbruderschaft, Bruderschaft vom Hl. Skapulier), am Piaristenkloster -2 (Bruderschaft der Gottesmutter von der Göttlichen Gnade, Bruderschaft vom Allerheiligsten Herzen Jesu). Die Bruderschaften hatten mit Sicherheit einen großen Einfluss auf die Frömmigkeit der Einwohner von Wieluń. Sie versammelten in ihren Reihen Eliten, die das religiöse Lebens gestalteten. Durch ihre Andachten und andere fromme Praktiken verliehen sie der Liturgie in der Kirche einen neuen Glanz und Attraktivität. Andererseits waren sie ein Zeichen für neue Strömungen und Akzente in der Volksfrömmigkeit. Der apostolische Geist der Mitglieder dieser Bruderschaften drückte sich u.a. in der Sorge nicht nur um eigene und die der anderen geistige Bedürfnisse, sondern auch um materielle Dinge. Dies wird in den Privilegien einzelner Bruderschaften deutlich. Ein Motiv, das immer wieder kehrt, ist die Sorge um Bedürftige, um die Verbreitung des Friedens in der Welt und selbstverständlich auch um das Zeugnis vorbildlichen Lebens und um die Vermittlung der Glaubenswahrheiten durch Wort und Tat. Das Verzeichnis der genannten Taten kann man kurz als die sieben Werke der Barmherzigkeit für Leib und Seele zusammenfassen. Es kann gesagt werden, dass die Bruderschaften einen wesentlichen Einfluss auf die Bildung der christlichen Mentalität sowie auf die Durchdringung des alltäglichen Lebens durch den christlichen Geist der Liebe zu Gott und zu den Mitmenschen ausübten.
