Opis:
The problem of macroscopic behaviour of periodic, elastic-plastic, fibrous composite material with frictional fibre-matrix interface is considered. Anti-plane shear of the material is analysed. The problem is formulated with the help of variational inequalities using the two approaches: displacement-based and stress-based ones. The variational inequalities are solved using the finite element method. In the case of stress-based approach, the Prandl stress function is utilized. The obtained effective constitutive model of the composite can be used directly in analysis of the problem of torsion of a composite bar with a fine, periodic structure.
W pracy rozważono zagadnienie efektywnych własności periodycznego, sprężysto-plastycznego kompozytu włóknistego, poddanego stanowi anty-płaskiego ścinania, uwzględniając zjawisko tarcia na powierzchni łączącej włókno i matrycę.

Opis:
Nowadays, the finite element method (FEM) – boundary element method (BEM) is used to predict the performance of structural-acoustic problem, i.e. the frequency response analysis, modal analysis. The accuracy of conventional FEM/BEM for structural-acoustic problems strongly depends on the size of the mesh, element quality, etc. As element size gets greater and distortion gets severer, the deviation of high frequency problem is also clear. In order to improve the accuracy of structural-acoustic problem, a smoothed finite-element/boundary-element coupling procedure (SFEM/BEM) is extended to analyze the structural-acoustic problem consisting of a shell structure interacting with the cavity in this paper, in which the SFEM and boundary element method (BEM) models are used to simulate the structure and the fluid, respectively. The governing equations of the structural-acoustic problems are established by coupling the SFEM for the structure and the BEM for the fluid. The solutions of SFEM are often found to be much more accurate than those of the FEM model. Based on its attractive features, it was decided in the present work to extend SFEM further for use in structural-acoustic analysis by coupling it with BEM, the present SFEM/BEM is implemented to predict the vehicle structure-acoustic frequency response analysis, and two numerical experiments results show that the present method can provide more accurate results compared with the standard FEM/BEM using the same mesh. It indicates that the present SFEM/BEM can be widely applied to solving many engineering noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) problems with more accurate solutions.

Opis:
The article presents issues associated with an analysis of the process of delamination of fibrous composite using the Finite Element Method. Research encompassed three computer modelling sessions for delamination of the material for three different values of distance between the test force application point and the middle of the laminate. The results, encompassing the force value and displacement, were then compared to identify the correlation between these variables and the distance from the force application point. The model correctness was also verified by comparing the value of forces modelled with the real values, obtained during an experiment. On the basis of the results obtained with regard to the size of the force applied, it was concluded that the numerical model represented well the mathematical model presented by Comanho. The negative result errors were due to the increased sensitivity of the software to the laminate fracture phenomenon, occurring during the experiment. Thanks to good representation of the model, it can be used interchangeably with numerical calculations.

The paper presents results of the numerical analysis of the fire damper used in ventilation systems under the earthquake loading. The research was conducted in accordance with the recommendations of the Nuclear Safety Standards Commission. The aim of the analysis was to examine the fire damper with respect to its resistance to service loadings, structural integrity, and capability to stay operative after an earthquake. The analysis was carried out using the Finite Element Method in LS-Dyna software. The earthquake loading was modelled as accelerations, measured in three directions during the earthquake. For modelling of the materials behaviour, material models taking into account the influence of strain rate on hardening were used. The analysis consisted of three stages, which were: loading the construction with the earth gravity, earthquake simulation by loading with accelerations in three directions, and, finally, closing the fire damper. The analysis has shown that some of the construction elements undergo plastic deformations. However, the performed simulation of fire damper closing showed that despite these deformations, the device remains capable to keep its functionality and the damper closes hermetically. The results of the analysis were important design indications for the fire damper prototype.

The paper presents the results of numerical calculations of stress distributions in the gear micropump body for applications in hydraulic systems, especially in the marine sector. The scope of the study was to determine the most favorable position of bushings and pumping unit in the gear pump body in terms of stress and displacement distribution in the pump housing. Fourteen cases of gear pump bushings and pumping unit locations were analyzed: starting from the symmetrical position relative to the central axis of the pump, up to a position shifted by 2.6 mm towards the suction channel of the pump. The analysis of the obtained calculation results has shown that the most favorable conditions for pump operation are met when the bushings are shifted by 2.2 mm towards the suction channel. In this case the maximal stress was equal to 109 MPa, while the highest displacement was about 15μm. Strength and stiffness criteria in the modernized pump body were satisfied.

The presented research is directed to the porous ceramics microstructural behaviour assessment with the use of numerical methods. Such new material can be used for thermal insulation, filters, bio-scaffolds for tissue engineering, and preforms for composite fabrication. One of the newest and most interesting applications, considered in this work, is a usage of those materials for production of proppants for hydraulic fracturing of shale rocks. The hydraulic fracturing is a method of gas recovery from unconventional reservoirs. A large amount of fracturing fluid mixed with proppant (small particles of sand or ceramics) is pumped into the wellbore and its pressure causes the rock cracking and gas release. After fracturing the fluid is removed from the developed cracks leaving the proppant supporting the fracture. In the paper the grain porous ceramics which is used for proppant particles preparation was studied. The influence of grains distribution on the porous ceramics mechanical behaviour during compression was simulated with the use of finite element method.

Finite element methods are used in many disciplines for the development of products, typically in mechanical engineering (for example in automotive industry, biomechanics, etc.). Some modern programs of finite element methods have specific tools (electromagnetic, fluid and structural simulations). The finite elements methods allow detailed presentation of structures by bending or torsion, complete design, testing and optimization before the prototype production. The aims of this paper were model a conveyor belt passage with a driving drum. The model was created in Abaqus CAE program. The created model presented data about forces, pressures, and deformation of the conveyor belt.

The friction conditions were tested using pin-on-disc tribometer. Machining tests were carried out using carbide cutting tools coated with a TiAlN monolayer without coolants. The selection of machining conditions was based on real production data. In addition, a real CAD model of the cutting tool insert was implemented. Moreover, an advanced technique of meshing the cutting edge and the grooved rake face was applied. The simulations include cutting forces and cutting temperature. Finally, FEM simulations were compared with measurements in order to improve the simulation strategy.

Opis:
The results of modelling of the magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) microstructure using Finite Elements Method (FEM) are shown. MREs are solids analogous to magnetorheological fluids consisting of carbonyl-iron particles and a soft elastomer matrix. Fabrication of MREs is performed in an external constant magnetic field. Due to the presence of this field, the ferromagnetic particles tend to arrange themselves into elongated chains according to the magnetic field lines. FEM analysis of the MREs microstructure takes into account two cases: magnetic power and elastic vectors as well as their interactions between the components of the composite. The paper describes spatial ordering of the particles based on their interactions with the magnetic field. Two phenomena were taken into account: the force of a magnetic field and the local magnetic dipoles. Both fields have been modelled for a circular conductor with electrical current.

Opis:
Article presents results of numerical analyses of the finite elements mesh density influence on the shaped charge jet stream formation process and its selected parameters. Authors considered classical shaped charge, which consists of the plastic explosive material, copper liner and aluminium case. To properly described, material properties of the liner and case of the shaped charge, the Johnson-Cook material model was used. Detonation process was described using burn model approach. Behaviour of the detonation process products was described by commonly used John-Wilkins-Lee equation of state. Due to the nature of the presented phenomenon, in which we are dealing with large strains and strain rates, for its modelling authors utilized Euler description, implemented in the LS-Dyna software. In these method material flows by the finite elements and mesh is not deformed. Such approach allows for modelling phenomena where large and very large deformations occur. Unfortunately, it can result in a destabilizing of the systems energy balance. In order to minimize dissipation processes, in calculations was used second order scheme because of the spatial variables and time. Analyses were performed in axially symmetric setup, which was possible due to the symmetry of the analysed system. Influence of the finite elements size on the process of jet stream formation and its selected parameters was analysed.

In the paper numerical aspects of elasto-viscoplastic dynamic calculations of circular plates are presented. Numerical results are compared with experiments carried out in the laboratory. Each plate is calculated using the self-built computer program based on the finite element method. The Gaussian quadtrature is used for the surface integration and some difficulties concerning the choice of the order of this integration are discussed. To integrate the constitutive equations (the first order differential equations), and the equations of motion (the second order differential equations), it is necessary to use proper value of the time step. Some remarks on selection of this value are given. Density of the finite element mesh used for discretisation of the plate is studied. It was found that the number of elements has bigger influence on the quality of the results than t he number of layers used to describe the changes of stresses through the thickness of the plate. Finally, some comments on the choice of the model of damping are made. An approximate method of introduction of this factor in the calculations is presented.

With regard to serviceability state deformations, diaphragm walls and slurry walls cause considerable soil deformations during trench construction. 3-dimensional finite element analyses are able to quantify these deformations. They are compared to measurements and to the results of simplified 2-dimensional models. The dependence of soil stiffness on the actual state can be accounted for by using a hypoplastic constitutive law. Trench geometry and construction sequence are considered as factors of influence. It is shown, how the wall construction process can be modelled at the beginning of an overall 2-dimensional deformation analysis using prescribed initial deformation or stress fields.

Finite Element Method (FEM) called Finite Element Analysis is a tool for computer-aided engineering and analysis. It is used to solve problems related to changes in the geometry of the structure as a result of external factors. FEM is used to model engineering processes where real objects are converted to discrete models. Finite Element Method uses a method of obtaining approximate solutions by approximation of partial differential equations. The process of testing and mathematical computation model is described by the equations function of the position and time for the nodes. The development of individual models and their groups and definitions of boundary conditions are carried out using computer programs for FEM.
