    Port as one of the key hubs of international logistics, which has become the main part and the base of global logistics management. The port enterprises, plays an important role in the global supply chain. However, due to the lack of understanding in port supply chain management, coordination between the port enterprises, the integration of business process is not perfect, the lack of information sharing between various organizations, ports enterprises usually failed to fully play its positive role. Based on this, the paper makes the port enterprises as the research object, and introduces the excellent performance mode into the port enterprises. In order to study the port enterprises how to carry out effective quality management, and formation the coordination and integration of upstream and downstream of enterprises, so as to realize the competitive advantage in port logistics.

    Industrial safety is an important issue in Thailand, and attempts have been made to improve safety performance and accident records. This paper examines key criteria influencing safety improvement. Exploratory factor analysis confirms 9 safety criteria, including 5 “enablers” and 4 “results”, with a total of 47 associated attributes. A safety assessment approach is developed, using those 9 key criteria, to measure an organization’s current safety maturity level. Organizations can use the assessment approach to plan its safety improvement, and progress through to higher maturity levels by focusing on the weakest criteria shown in the assessment results with the lowest scores.

    Purpose: The purpose of the article is to identify the importance of excellence models with respect to the evaluation of innovative activity and to present selected excellence models in this area. Design/methodology/approach: A critical analysis of domestic and foreign literature on the subject of excellence models in the field of innovation activity. Findings: This article presents the theoretical background for the possibility of assessing innovation activities, innovation management practices by means of excellence models. The analysis is conducted within the perspective of the broad concept of excellence. The choice of the approach to excellence in innovation management determines the scope of possibilities and the way in which it can be assessed. The results of the analysis show that excellence models in the area of innovation management can play a crucial role in reviewing and diagnosing organisations in this field, monitoring needs and performance and identifying areas for improvement and defining directions for further improvement. Originality/value This paper presents methods of assessing innovative activity using excellence models as well as analysis of identified selected excellence models in the area of innovation management.

    The aim of this article was to present characteristic phenomena accompanying competitions for quality awards based on the use of the organizational excellence models implemented at the regional level. Typical problems were identifid, the understanding of which allows for a better use of the idea of excellence to raise the overall level of maturity of organizations aspiring to quality awards at every level. The results of self-assessment and external verifiation of organizations participating in the 21st edition of the Competition for the Pomeranian Quality Award were presented. On the basis of in-depth interviews with employees of the competition organizing unit as well as source materials, a diagnosis of the current state concerning this undertaking was presented and some directions of improvement actions were defied.
    Celem autorów było przedstawienie charakterystycznych zjawisk towarzyszących konkursom o nagrody jakości, opierających się na zastosowaniu modeli doskonałości organizacyjnej, realizowanych na szczeblu regionalnym. Wskazano typowe problemy, których zrozumienie umożliwia lepiej wykorzystać ideę doskonałości do podniesienia ogólnego poziomu dojrzałości organizacji aspirujących do nagród jakości na każdym szczeblu. Przedstawiono wyniki samooceny i zewnętrznej weryfiacji organizacji biorących udział w 21 edycji Konkursu o Pomorską Nagrodę Jakości. Na podstawie wywiadów pogłębionych, przeprowadzonych z pracownikami jednostki organizującej konkurs, a także materiałów źródłowych, opracowano diagnozę stanu aktualnego dotyczącą tego przedsięwzięcia oraz określono niektóre kierunki działań doskonalących.

Watermana [1982] doskonałość jest powracającym motywem w rozważaniach teoretycznych i praktycznych rozwiązaniach mieszczących się w polu zainteresowania zarządzania. Głównym powodem wyboru modelu EFQM do analizy jest fakt, iż jest to jeden z bardziej znanych modeli doskonałości w Europie, który pomaga współczesnym organizacjom mierzyć, przewidywać, monitorować potrzeby i wymagania zainteresowanych stron oraz śledzić dokonania innych organizacji. Wdrożenie modelu w przedsiębiorstwach wiąże się określonymi trudnościami, które zostały zebrały i przedstawione na podstawie niezależnych od siebie badań przeprowadzonych na świecie a opisanych w literaturze.
    Since the bestselling book T.J. Peters and R.H. Waterman [1982] excellence is a recurring theme in theoretical considerations and practical solutions within the field of management interest. The main reason for selecting the EFQM model for analysis is that it is one of the more well-known models of excellence in Europe that helps contemporary organizations measure, anticipate, monitor the needs and interests of stakeholders, and track the performance of other organizations. The implementation of the model in enterprises involves specific difficulties that have been gathered and presented on the basis of independent research carried out worldwide and described in the literature.

    Measuring the organization's performance is essential for continuous improvement and operational excellence. Appropriate organizational measures include multiple dimensions. The relative importance of the multiple dimensions varies depending on the organization's context and the management team's visions. The vagueness and ambiguity in the management team's perspective toward the dimensions and associated sub-indicators show fuzzy property. This paper aims to synthesize the over-all organization performance in one aggregated index, engage the management team through index formulation, deal with ambiguity and vagueness in the management team perspective using fuzzy mathematics, and use the synthesized index in monitoring and controlling the organization's performance to achieve operational excellence. The proposed approach is implemented in manufacturing organizations to prove practicality. The implementation of the proposed method shows a positive im-pact on the organization's performance monitoring as the management team focused on one measure. Furthermore, it has engaged the management team in selecting and weighing the leading group and associated KPIs. The R programming and Minitab 19 are used in the collected data processing.

    VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB-TUO) is the first and heretofore only public university in Czech Republic that has ISO 9001 certification. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was the one Faculty of VŠB-TUO awarded the Czech Republic National Quality Award 2007 in the public sector category. The contribution describes the path of VŠB-TUO in implementation of a quality management system to implementation of EFQM Excellence Model as step beyond ISO 9001 certification. (JEL: P11, O43, L15).
    Politechnika w Ostrawie (VŠB-TUO) jest pierwszą i dotychczas jedyną publiczną uczelnią wyższą w Czechach, która posiada certyfikat ISO 9001. W roku 2007 Wydziałowi Inżynierii Mechanicznej przyznano czeską nagrodę jakości (the Czech Republic National Quality Award) w kategorii sektora publicznego. Artykuł przedstawia ścieżkę wdrażania systemu zarządzania jakością przez VŠB-TUO aż do implementacji Modelu Doskonałości (EFQM Excellence Model), co było krokiem niezbędnym do uzyskania certyfikatu ISO 9001.

    CSR is a continued promise by companies to act ethically, to contribute to sustainable economic development, and to contribute to improvement of quality of life of their employees, their families, as well as local communities and society as a whole. Confirmation of this trend is implementation of other models of management systems that focus on quality. One such model is a parallel interconnectivity between Corporate Social Responsibility and the EFQM Excellence Model, which our article examines in depth. Systematic and professional application of the EFQM Excellence Model and interconnectivity with Corporate Social Responsibility fundamentals results in maximization of added value for all interested parties. Principles of Corporate Social Responsibility are closely tied to philosophy of the EFQM Excellence Model, in that each company has its own management and power of ideas that identify its vision. Criteria of the EFQM Excellence Model are interconnected with Corporate Social Responsibility and both philosophies determine a company’s success.
    CSR to obietnica przedsiębiorstw, aby działać etycznie i przyczynić się do zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarczego, a także do poprawy jakości życia pracowników, ich rodzin, jak również społeczności lokalnych i społeczeństwa jako całości. Potwierdzeniem tej tendencji jest realizacja innych modeli systemów zarządzania, które koncentrują się na jakości. Jednym z takich modeli jest równoległa łączność między Społeczną Odpowiedzialnością Biznesu i Modelem Doskonałości EFQM, które są dogłębnie analizowane w artykule. Systematyczne i profesjonalne zastosowanie Modelu Doskonałości EFQM i łączność z podstawami Społecznej Odpowiedzialności Biznesu powoduje maksymalizację wartości dodanej dla wszystkich zainteresowanych stron.

    In the work the proposals of quality management systems in organizations are determined, according to the opinion of quality management representatives. The analysis of these systems’ functions is presented among the organizations that took part in the Polish Quality Award contest. The remarks concerning the process of system creation, maintenance and development were subject to analysis. Special attention was paid to the problems occurring at particular stages. Considerations were made on the basis of a survey conducted on a group of representatives from the enterprises submitted to the Polish Quality Award contest. The results were supplemented with the authors’ ideas and experiences.

    The paper deals with the topic of social responsibility in selected organizations in the Czech Republic. This topic is mainly associated with the requirements for economical and ecological production. In reality, however, this area has a much broader meaning. In the introduction, the paper deals with the definition of corporate social responsibility, the importance of this industry, the description of stake-holders and the basic principles of the whole concept. Furthermore, the paper deals with the benefits of implementing corporate social responsibility in the overall concept of the organization and describes the most common barriers to the adoption of the concept of CSR in organizations. The next part analyses the current attitude of organizations to CSR in the form of a questionnaire survey. Organizations from various areas of the private as well as the public sector were involved in the survey. The questionnaire is divided into three groups within the questions asked to the respondents. The first part of the questions is focused on the identification of organizations, focus size and other information. The second part focuses on awareness of corporate social responsibility and the last part deals with issues related to strengthening awareness of CSR.

    Companies use many managerial frameworks that ensure desired development. Some of these frameworks are quality-oriented, others are financially-oriented but only a few of them are environmentallyoriented. The aim of the paper is to delineate selected environmental excellence models on account of their comparison. The main motive for the selection of the paper's topic were researches conducted by various authors who have dealt with environmental excellence models, respectively with self-assessment based on existing environmental excellence models. To fulfil the aim of the paper, secondary research is to be conducted. Based on the methods of analysis, comparison and selection, the most frequently occurring criteria of analysed environmental excellence models are to be identified. As a main finding may be considered that three of four environmental excellence models consist of various criteria, while most of these criteria are similar. However, criteria based on another important principles are not included in more than one of mentioned environmental excellence models. This obliges to further research aimed at developing an integrated environmental excellence model consisting of the most important criteria.
    Przedsiębiorstwa wykorzystują wiele narzędzi zarządzania, aby zapewnić osiągnięcie pożądanego celu. Niektóre z tych narzędzi są nastawione na jakość, inne mają charakter finansowy, ale tylko nieliczne z nich mają na uwadze aspekt środowiskowy. Celem artykułu jest opisanie wybranych środowiskowych modeli doskonałości w celu ich porównania. Podstawowy motywem przyświecający wyborowi tematyki artykułu stanowiły badania przeprowadzone przez różnych autorów, którzy mieli do czynienia z owymi modelami, a także samodzielna ocena istniejących modeli. Aby zrealizować cel artykułu, przeprowadzono badania wtórne. W oparciu o metody analizy, porównanie i selekcję, zidentyfikowano najczęściej występujące kryteria opisywanych środowiskowych modeli doskonałości. Jako główny wynik badań można potraktować fakt, że trzy z czterech środowiskowych modeli doskonałości składają się wprawdzie z różnych kryteriów, które są jednak do siebie podobne. Jednakże kryteria bazujące na innych ważnych zasadach nie są ujęte w więcej niż jednym ze wspomnianych modeli. To obliguje do dalszych badań mających na celu rozwój i integrację środowiskowych modeli doskonałości składających się z najważniejszych kryteriów.

    Research activities of Crisis Management Center at Matej Bel University are focused at development and tuning of crisis scenarios for different critical events. Specialized tools are used for crisis management scenario workflow design and simulations. For complex analysis and information security crisis management, complex multilevel multisilo information security model was designed and described in the paper. Equipment and procedures used in current security measures defending organizations and states against advanced persistent threats and attacks from the cyberspace are attached to each level and silo of the model. This enables simulation of crisis management scenarios in case of cyberattack as precise as possible to real situations of critical architecture attacks, which can have dramatic consequences as outages or complete shutdown of energy grids, destroying factories, key data destructions and other catastrophic events.

    This paper is about the necessity to establish a quality management system in universities capable to improve the performance of these ones and to achieve the excellence in their current activities. The research objectives were to analyse the main trends of higher education services in Romania and to propose future strategies in line with the current orientations at the European level. The results of our research stress the necessity to improve the quality inside the higher education institutions as the education market become smaller year by year mainly due to the demographic changes. In this respect the EFQM Excellence Model could be used in the development of the Quality Management System.
    Artykuł ten porusza zagadnienie konieczności ustanowienia systemu zarządzania jakością w uczelni, który może poprawić jej wydajność i pomóc w osiągnięciu doskonałości w jej bieżącej działalności. Celem badań była analiza głównych trendów usług szkolnictwa wyższego w Rumunii, i zaproponowanie strategii na przyszłość, zgodnie z aktualnymi kierunkami na poziomie europejskim. Wyniki naszego badania podkreślają konieczność poprawy jakości wewnątrz instytucji szkolnictwa wyższego, jako że rynek edukacji staje się mniejszy z roku na rok, głównie ze względu na zmiany demograficzne. W tym zakresie można wykorzystać model doskonałości EFQM w celu rozwoju Systemu Zarządzania Jakością.
