Opis:
The paper presents the coupled static and dynamic mechanical–electromagnetic finite element analyses of an electromechanical vibration energy harvesting converter with permanent–magnet excitation. The system consists of a small, milliwatt power range, linear–motion generator connected to a cantilever–beam spring element. The finite element equations derived for the mechanical part of the system according to the 1–D Timoshenko beam theory are coupled strongly with those describing the 2–D distribution of magnetic field in the generator and those associated with the electric circuit. The considered electromechanical coupling allows for prediction of static and dynamic response of the system subjected to action of externally applied force. The static displacement of the moving element is computed via solution of the nonlinear system of equations and is used as an initial solution in dynamic analysis. For computation of the dynamic response of the system the time–stepping procedure based on the Crank– Nicolson discretisation schema is applied. The models are positively validated against the measurements carried out on the laboratory test–stand.

Opis:
A novelty dual-stator brushless doubly-fed generator (DSBDFG) with magnetic-barrier rotor structure is put forward for application in wind power. Compared with a doubly-fed induction generator, the DSBDFG has virtues of high reliability and low maintenance costs because of elimination of brush and sliprings components. Therefore, the proposed structure has tremendous potential as a wind power generator to apply in wind power. According to the operating principle of electric machine, the DSBDFG is studied in wind power application. At first, the topology, the winding connecting, the rotor structure, the power flow chart of different operating models and the variable speed capability of electric machine are discussed and analyzed. Then, a 50 kW DSBDFG is designed. Based on the principal dimension of the design electric machine, the electromagnetic characteristics of the DSBDFG with different running modes are analyzed and calculated to adopt the numerical method. From the result, it meets the requests of electromagnetic consistency and winding connecting in the design electric machine. Meanwhile, it confirms the proposed DSBDFG has the strong ability of speed regulation.

We study for the first time errors in on-wafer scattering parameter measurements caused by the parasitic microstrip-like mode propagation in conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (CB-CPW). We determine upper bound for these errors for typical CPW devices such as a matched load, an open circuit, and a transmission line section. To this end, we develop an electromagnetic-simulations-based multimode three-port model for the transition between an air-coplanar probe and the CB-CPW. Subsequently, we apply this model to examine errors in the device S parameters de-embedded from measurements affected by the parasitic MSL mode. Our analysis demonstrates that the multimode propagation in CB-CPW may significantly deteriorate the S-parameters measured on wafer.

This paper takes a 50 kW interior permanent magnet brushless DC motor as an example, and explores the influence of the degree of stator slot skew on the overall motor magnetic density and air gap magnetic density; then reveals the influences of stator slot skewed structure on a series of key electromagnetic properties like no-load back electromotive force (B-EMF), cogging torque, electromagnetic torque, torque fluctuation, electromagnetic loss, input power, output power and operating efficiency. On this basis, a relatively best range of the skew degrees is obtained. The research work in this paper has direct reference value for the further improvement of design and manufacture, operation and maintenance, control and protection of such motors.

The paper deals with a magnetostrictive fast-acting actuator applied as a driving device for plasma valve. The actuator is characterized by a relatively small displacement (les then 0.1 mm), but with a very short response time – below 0.1 ms. System is designed for so called “high intensity plasma pulses gun” which is applied in the area of plasma physics and material engineering [1]. A structure with an axisymmetrical actuator energised by discharged pulses of a capacitor has been proposed. The field-circuit mathematical model of the dynamic operation of the actuator has been applied. The model includes: the equation of transient electromagnetic field in a non-linear ferromagnetic material and equation of electric circuit. Using the Borland Delphi 9.0 environment, the computer software has been elaborated. Results of simulation are presented.

The paper presents a nonlinear electromagnetic field problem with cylindrical symmetry. A time-sinusoidal boundary condition is applied, which yields non-sinusoidal steady-state fields. The problem is brought forth to test an analytical-numerical method based on the method of small parameter. A distinctive feature of this method is that it requires symbolic calculations to be performed. These allow to reduce the problem to a system of nonlinear equations. In order to check the accuracy of the solution, several error criteria are introduced. Moreover, the power balance of a nonlinear conductive region is verified.

This paper presents the improved methodology for the direct calculation of steady-state periodic solutions for electromagnetic devices, as described by nonlinear differential equations, in the time domain. A novel differential operator is developed for periodic functions and the iterative algorithm determining periodic steady-state solutions in a selected set of time instants is identified. Its application to steady-state analysis is verified by an elementary example. The modified algorithm reduces the complexity of steady-state analysis, particularly for electromagnetic devices described by high-dimensional nonlinear differential equations.

Opis:
The paper deals with progress in electromagnetic methods used for structure evaluation of conducting materials. The term "electromagnetic methods" covers the following areas: magneto-inductive methods, magnetic leakage flux probe method, magnetometer principle and eddy-current methods. In 6948 the German visionary Friedrich Förster established his own company and developed highly sensitive measuring devices for magnetic fields at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institute. The methods and examples described in this paper relate only to eddy-current method, but the same idea may be applied for other methods, indeed. For the aim of inner structure recognition the sensitivity analysis with finite elements is proposed.
Zadania odwrotne prowadzą zwykle do źle uwarunkowanych, nadokreślonych układów równań. Uzyskane rozwiązanie jest często wynikiem kompromisu możliwej do uzyskania rozdzielczości w stosunku do użytych danych pomiarowych obciążonych błędami. Zastosowanie regularyzacji pozwala uzyskać zbieżność algorytmu nawet w takich przypadkach.

Opis:
This paper addresses the steady state analysis and the electromagnetic transients of overhead power transmission lines exhibiting corona. After a brief survey of the currently available modeling techniques, an alternative approach to the simulation of the corona discharge is presented. It is based on adding voltage-dependent current sources at prespecified nodes within the line’s lumped, ladder-shaped, equivalent circuit including an aduqate number of sections. The characteristics of these current sources can be determined using the usually available corona power loss measurements under power frequency sinusoidal voltage conditions. The line model is used for finding its transient response using time domain techniques. Several voltage excitation waveforms and magnitudes as well as different line’s loading conditions are investigated. As a further application of the suggested approach, the minimizion of the total corona losses of a long shunt compensated line will be considered as an additional criterion in the process of identifying the appropriate rating and location of the compensating coil primarily used for improving the line’s voltage profile.

The paper presents the special software for transient FE analysis of coupled electromagnetic-thermal problems in a squirrel cage submerged motor working at cryogenic temperature. A time-stepping finite element method and transients analysis of an induction motor has been applied. The non-linearity of the magnetic circuit, the movement of the rotor, skewed slots, and the influence of temperature on electric and thermal properties of the materials has been taken into account. Developed on the basis of presented algorithm a computer program used to analyze the phenomenon of current displacement in the rotor bars of high-voltage cage induction motor working in cryogenic conditions. The classic relationships concerning the harmonic content in the air gap field of three-phase machines are presented in form of series of rotating waves. The same approach is applied to modeling of permanent magnet motors with fractional phase windings. All main reasons of non-sinusoidal shape of flux density distribution, namely, magnets’ shape and their placement, slotting, magnetic saturation and eccentricity are also related to their counterparts in modal-frequency spectrum. The Fourier 2D spectrum of time-stepping finite element solution is confronted with results of measurements, with special attention paid to accuracy of both methods.

Electromagnetic articulography (EMA) is one of the instrumental phonetic research methods used for recording and assessing articulatory movements. Usually, articulographic data are analysed together with standard audio recordings. This paper, however, demonstrates how coupling the articulograph with devices providing other types of information may be used in more advanced speech research. A novel measurement system is presented that consists of the AG 500 electromagnetic articulograph, a 16-channel microphone array with a dedicated audio recorder and a video module consisting of 3 high-speed cameras. It is argued that synchronization of all these devices allows for comparative analyses of results obtained with the three components. To complement the description of the system, the article presents innovative data analysis techniques developed by the authors as well as preliminary results of the system’s accuracy.
