The twentieth century in the Catholic Church was the age of martyrs and witnesses to the faith. One of such witness is Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis, who was born in Lithuania, worked in Russia for a long time and spent many years in Soviet camps. The bishop was a man of prayer and a great organizer of the spiritual life, faithful to his vocation, obedient to the Apostolic Throne, and scarifying. Although Theophilus Matulionis did not lack for suffering in his life, he was always a witness to the Gospel, matured in the virtues of faith, love, and hope. His life and deeds were appreciated by Pope Francis declaring him blessed.

Opis:
Marianna Biernacka, called “blessed mother-in-law”, gave life for saving life of her daughter-in-law. Stanislawa Leszczynska was a midwife. She was receiving labors in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz. Both women lived during the Second World War. They showed great kindness and piety. The aim of the article was to present the life histories of Marianna Biernacka and Stanislawa Leszczynska and the events that affected their beati-fication. In both cases their heroic acts became famous only decades after the war. The articleʼs message is clear: everyone can become a saint. The article was based on the available books about Marianna Biernacka and Stanislawa Leszczynska, which are few in the literature.

The article focuses on the cult of women saints in the spiritual life of the Blessed Dorothy of Montau. The material under discussion is the earliest biographical sources of the Blessed, especially "Liber de festis" and "Vita" by Dorothy’s confessor, John of Marienwerder. Dorothy venerated holy virgin martyrs, (e.g. her patron saint, St. Dorothy), saints worshipped by the Teutonic Order (St. Elizabeth of Hungary) and other holy women, e.g. belonging to the laity like the Montau recluse herself (St. Brigdet of Sweden, St. Mary Magdalene). The forms of the cult mentioned in the sources analysed vary from prayers and meditations to the imitationof the saints and some aspects of their lives.

Streszczenie Artykuł poświęcony jest obrzędowości, która w głównym nurcie życia często bywa pomijana. Można jednak zadać pytanie – czy mamy świadomość jaka wartość wychowawcza tkwi w obrzędowości. Na pewno miał tego pełną świadomość bł. Edmund Bojanowski, który w opracowanych przez siebie materiałach pozostawił nam wiele wskazówek jak z obrzędowości czynić środek wychowawczy. Celem artykułu będzie przypomnienie jak ważne miejsce w procesie wychowania zajmuje obrzędowość. Tekst składa się z trzech części. W pierwszej znajduje się analiza zjawiska obrzędowości, zaprezentowana jest jego typologia oraz funkcje. Druga poświęcona jest procesowi wychowania i wskazaniu elementów, w których możemy mówić o obrzędowości. Trzecią część stanowi wskazanie dziedzin wychowania, w których obrzędowość może odgrywać szczególną rolę. Zakończeniem artykułu jest wskazanie zasad wychowania, które mogą warunkować wychowawczą wartość obrzędów. Materiał i metody Materiały źródłowe - kompendium Edmunda Bojanowskiego. Analiza dokumentów. This paper discusses a historical evolution of the concept of solidarity: from its clearly anti-ecclesiastical sense up to its entirely Christian conception. The concept itself is of French origin and it designates close and active social cooperation in attaining common objectives. The notion was frequently evoked by the 19th-century social movements and used as an antithesis for the Christian teaching about the love of the neighbour. The sense of the notion changed with the rise of the anticommunist protests of the Polish workers in the late 20th century, who chose Solidarity for the name of their trade union. An important role in promoting the changed idea of solidarity was played by the moral authority of the Blessed John Paul II, who incorporated this notion in his teaching and developed it further.

The article describes one of the elements of the gothic church of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Ostrów Tumski in Poznań - its western gable. It is a crow-stepped construction with twelve pinnacles with floriated terminations and a younger ave-bell.The present forms ceramic pinnacles and fleurons come from the extensive redecoration that the church underwent in mid-19th century, as testified by the dates carved on their underside (1859- illustration 3) and the surviving bills. From older iconography (F.B. Werner 1734; J. Minutoli 1833; K.W. Kielisiński - the 1840s) it is evident that the church also in earlier times had pinnacles, probably gothic ones.It is assumed that the construction of the church was begun by builders from West Pomerania ca. 1430 r., and the edifice was completed by the local stonemasons. From written sources it follows that the gable of the church was erected in 1445 by Lorko of Kościan. It can be supposed that the gothic pinnacles were executed by the local Greater Poland craftsmen.

Bł. Dorota z Mątów Wielkich (1347–1394) należy do grona największych pokutników średniowiecznej i nowożytnej Europy. Pokuta ekspiacyjna jest istotną metodą realizacji jej charyzmatu. Jaka wynika z analizy wymienionych źródeł, pokuta dorotańska obejmuje m.in. liczne i zróżnicowane rodzaje aktów venii (tj. aktów liturgicznych zastosowanych pierwotnie w liturgii świętej w rycie dominikańskim, a recypowanych w liturgii Zakonu Krzyżackiego), które są zarówno aktami pokuty, jak i aktami uobecnienia Męki Pańskiej w osobie ofiarnika, podejmującego ten rodzaj ekspiacyjnej modlitwy uniżenia dla zbawienia  wszystkich, na pożytek całej ludzkości. 
Blessed Dorothy of Great Montau (1347–1394) was one of the greatest penitents of medieval and modern Europe. The expiatory penance is an essential method of realizing her charism. As the analysis of the above–mentioned sources showed, the Dorothy’s penance includes, inter alia, numerous and varied types acts of venia (i.e. liturgical acts originally used in the sacred liturgy in the Dominican Rite, and recited in the liturgy of the Teutonic Order), which are both acts of penance and acts of presenting the Lord's Passion in the person of the sacrifice who undertaked this type of expiatory prayer of humiliation for the salvation of all, for the benefit of all humanity.

The article analyses the motifs of the Virginity and the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Young Poland poetry. They appear in the writings of many poets, i.e. Maria Konopnicka, Leopold Staff, Jan Kasprowicz, Bronisława Ostrowska, Kazimiera Zawistowska, Józef Ruffer and others. The interest in the Motherhood of God in this period stemmed mostly from a general increase in religiousness but it also had its national and patriotic roots. The expansiveness of the motifs of Virginity and the Annunciation of St. Mary after 1900 was also connected with the 50th anniversary commemoration of the announcement of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. The changes in the world-view in the era initialized by vitalism, the fascination with spirituality, broad-sense purity, folk nature and the Franciscan philosophical trend were also significant for the poetic presentation of St. Mary.

W artykule została podjęta kwestia ukazania rozwoju teologicznej prawdy o Wniebowzięciu Najświętszej Maryi Panny w liturgii. Śledząc jego treść zauważa się, iż krystalizowanie liturgii zgłębianego dogmatu odbywało się w Kościele zarówno na Wschodzie jak i Zachodzie. Oprócz tego dostrzega się interesującą ewolucję w ramach nazewnictwa święta, gdzie na początku wspomina się o „Pamięci Świętej Maryi” (Memoria Sanctae Mariae), potem dostrzega się nazwę „Zaśnięcie Maryi” (Dormitio, Koimesis), a następnie widzi się już „Wniebowzięcie” (Assumptio). Materiał źródłowy badanego zagadnienia stanowi wybrana polska literatura teologiczna w okresie od uroczystego ogłoszenia Wniebowzięcia (1.11.1950 r.) do 1965 roku. Studiując ją dostrzega się, iż mariolodzy budują swe wypowiedzi na kanwie Pisma Świętego i Tradycji Kościoła. Zgłębiając osiągnięcia polskiej mariologii dostrzega się kreatywną, samodzielną interpretację badanych źródeł. Dzięki temu wspomniani mariolodzy nie zatrzymują się tylko na studiowaniu treści źródeł, lecz sami prezentują nowe rozwiązania, które z kolei stanowią wkład w rozwój myśli mariologicznej. 
This paper presents the evolution of Our Lady’s Assumption dogma in the context of the liturgy. It turns out that the process of formation of this article of faith was advancing in the East as well as in the West. There was an interesting change taking place in respect to the name of the feast which at the beginning was called “The Commemoration of Holy Mary” (“Memoria Sanctae Mariae”), then “The Dormition” (“dormitio”, “koimesis”) and finally “The Assumption” (“Assumptio”). The research for this article was made in Polish Theological literature publishes between 1950 (the solemn proclamation of the dogma) and 1965. It is clearly seen that the Mariologists’ views were deeply rooted in the Scripture and the Tradition of the Church. In addition to this, it must be said that the Polish Mariologists offered a very creative and original interpretation of the dogmatic material they worked with. They did not just study the documents but also presented some new solutions that were a valuable input into the development of the Mariological thought.

Devine Mercy in the sacraments is the realisation of the invisible grace that works through them. According to MichaÅł Sopoćko’s beatitudes, sacraments are “inspirited” by God’s mercy, which is “able to forgive even the gravest of sins”. Sacraments remain the most effective form of giving grace of mercy because their action is not dependent on the faith of the recipient. They are clear signs of Christ’s concern for his Church.

The article describes the archaeological works carried out in February 2020 in the crypts of the church of the Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Szczuczyn (Podlaskie Voivodeship). Works in the crypts in Szczuczyn had been carried out since 2013, however in this case the main aim of the work was to collect botanical samples to analyse the vegetation that was used in the early modern funeral rite. An important element during the work was the proper selection of places from which botanical samples were to be taken, as well as marking the samples and their further segregation. To this end, it was decided to prepare a common sampling system for all the burials.
