Opis:: The readiness to sacrifice profit while making socially responsible investments among millennials, as future investors and managers, was examined. Specifically, a multi-level perspective on willingness to pay for socially responsible investment was assumed to understand how nationality, personal values and investment knowledge affect millennials’ readiness to sacrifice profit to achieve sustainability goals. Using survey data of 521 business students from Italy, Poland and Ukraine, it is showed that a considerable share of millennials prefer social and environmental performance of investment over financial return and that their nationality is the most powerful factor in explaining willingness to pay for socially responsible investment along with their sensitivity to environmental issues that takes the leading role among all personal values motivating investors to accept lower rates of return. The results can be relevant for financial institutions aiming at developing socially responsible investment products. Policy implications of the results are insights into nationality-related tensions while Europe-wide regulation of socially responsible investment could enter into force.

Opis:: Inwestowanie zrównoważone to selekcja spółek i emitowanych przez nie instrumentów do budowy portfela inwestycyjnego ze względu na ocenę ich odpowiedzialnego (etycznego) działania i budowy tzw. dobra społecznego. Inwestycje zrównoważone stanowią już ponad 25% wartości wszystkich aktywów inwestycyjnych świata, a największe aktywa są zarządzane zgodnie z tym podejściem w Europie. Inwestor może mieć trudności w ocenie, czy przyjęcie przez fundusz kryteriów zrównoważonego inwestowania jest zabiegiem marketingowym, opartym wyłącznie na zapisie w statucie danego funduszu, czy rzeczywiście ważnym elementem procesu inwestycyjnego. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie znaczenia i wpływu inwestowania zrównoważonego na zarządzanie portfelami inwestycyjnymi. Ponad 90% badań dotyczących inwestycji społecznie odpowiedzialnych nie wskazało negatywnego wpływu stosowania kryteriów ESG (inwestowanie według kryteriów środowiskowych, społecznych i związanych z ładem korporacyjnym) na wyniki finansowe spółek. Implementacja kryteriów ESG w działalności spółek, tworzenie polityk odpowiedzialnego inwestowania i publiczne dzielenie się raportami z tej działalności przynosi spółkom wymierne korzyści finansowe. Rynek inwestowania zrównoważonego jest zatem potrzebny i wysoce prawdopodobne, że będzie się dalej dynamicznie rozwijać. Najważniejsze inicjatywy z zakresu inwestowania zrównoważonego w Polsce to stworzenie RESPECT Index, badania Stowarzyszenia Emitentów Giełdowych nad kryteriami ESG oraz wprowadzenie Standardu Informacji Niefinansowych.
Sustainable investing consists in building an investment portfolio by selecting companies - issuers of investment assets, whose conduct is seen as responsible (ethical) and contributes to the building up of the so called social good. Sustainable investment has already exceeded 25% of the value of all global investment assets and the biggest assets in Europe are already managed in accordance with this approach. An investor may face difficulties in assessing whether the incorporation of a sustainable investment criterion into an investment fund's Statutes is just a marketing gimmick or a genuinely vital component of the investment policy. This paper aims at demonstrating the importance and impact of sustainable investing on investment portfolio management. Over 90% of studies focused on socially responsible investment did not reveal any negative impact of ESG criteria (investing that respects environmental, social, and governance criteria) on the financial performance of companies. On the contrary, implementing ESG criteria to business practice, developing responsible investment policies and publishing reports on corporate performance bring concrete financial benefits to companies. Thus, sustainable investment market is necessary and it is highly likely that it will continue to develop dynamically. Major initiatives in sustainable investing in Poland include the creation of the RESPECT Index, a study on ESG criteria carried out by the Polish Association of Listed Companies [Stowarzyszenie Emitentów Giełdowych] and the adoption of Non-financial Information Statement.

Opis:: The decline in the forecast indicators of the economy and production activity, the structural transformation of international production and consumer preferences, the reduction in income from bonds and world tourism, the massive layoffs of workers that led to an increase in unemployment and a decrease in household income, deferred investments and the reorientation of investment flows, both in economic sectors and in the regional context, are all the result of the impact of another challenge called COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed and continues to change many characteristics of the economy and society. Together with the onset of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the transition to the digital era, as well as taking into account completely new realities of the development of future generations, which are regulated by the concept of sustainable development, the formation of investment attractiveness is also taking place in a fundamentally different way. In this regard, the article substantiates the need to introduce the category sustainable investment attractiveness into everyday use. The author’s vision of the interpretation of this concept is presented. A procedure for forming a stable investment attractiveness of regions in the conditions of COVID-19 has been developed.
Spadek prognozowanych wskaźników gospodarki i działalności produkcyjnej, strukturalne przekształcenia produkcji międzynarodowej i preferencji konsumentów, zmniejszenie dochodów z obligacji i światowej turystyki, masowe zwolnienia pracowników, które doprowadziły do wzrostu bezrobocia i spadku dochodów gospodarstw domowych, odroczone inwestycje i reorientacja przepływów inwestycyjnych, zarówno w sektorach gospodarki, jak i w kontekście regionalnym, są wynikiem wpływu wyzwań pandemii COVID-19. Zmieniła ona i nadal zmienia wiele cech gospodarki i społeczeństw. Wraz z nadejściem czwartej rewolucji przemysłowej i przejściem do ery cyfrowej, a także uwzględniając zupełnie nowe realia rozwoju przyszłych pokoleń, które reguluje koncepcja zrównoważonego rozwoju, kształtowanie się atrakcyjności inwestycyjnej odbywa się również w zupełnie inny sposób. W tym zakresie artykuł uzasadnia potrzebę wprowadzenia do codziennego użytku kategorii zrównoważonej atrakcyjności inwestycyjnej. Została przedstawiona autorska wizja interpretacji tego pojęcia. Opracowano także procedurę kształtowania stabilnej atrakcyjności inwestycyjnej regionów w warunkach COVID-19.

Opis:: Over the past 20 years the phenomenon of socially responsible investment (SRI) has grown considerably in popularity and there has been in particular a sharp increase in research into its environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects. The process of SRI itself and research into this diverse phenomenon have become widespread particularly in developed countries and essentially supported by international organizations, specialized financial consulting companies, and institutional investors. The issues of theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of SRI in the Ukrainian market have considerable potential for research. The aim of the article is to study theoretical and methodological aspects of SRI as well as define the current state and prospects of socially responsible investment in Ukraine. The article covers the existing differences in the approaches to defining socially responsible investment and social investment, describes their features and proposes a method of classification, as well as clarifying the role of SRI under conditions of sustainable development. The current problems and prospects of SRI development in Ukraine are discussed.

Opis:: Investments towards sustainable development are vital for the future and they must be carefully planned to deliver immediate and long-term benefits. Hence, the ability to communicate the forms of impact of sustainable investments to local societies, people, investors and other stakeholders can provide a competitive advantage. However, the assessments are often under pressure to demonstrate short-term effects rather than emphasise the long-term impact. In addition, indirect and intangible forms of impacts should not be measured solely in economic terms. This paper proposes an assessment framework to support the integrated economic and social impact assessment of sustainable investments aimed at improving physical and socio-economic wellbeing. The framework is demonstrated in two case studies: new construction and renovation investments in affordable housing and social impact investment in sustainable development. The investments in the case studies are evaluated, selected and prioritized not only in terms of money but also with regard to sustainability, social acceptability and their overall impact on society, as a whole. The results indicate that a systematic integrated assessment of monetary and non-monetary factors can be successfully combined with the sustainable development decisions.

Opis:: International investment has increasingly been subject to controversies and debates. Never more so then when international investment law is faced with sustainable development issues, particularly in the context of international investment arbitration. Given the characteristics of international investment law regime, and in particular the nature of its dispute resolution mechanism, types of measures challenged in the tribunals and the magnitude of monetary compensations sought by investors and frequently awarded by the tribunals, sustainable development issues become notably visible and debatable. Since sustainable development became a prominent feature of major global initiatives, political agendas and social movements, international investment disputes involving sustainable development issues gain lots of international attention. This paper aims to highlight the controversies of some of the most prominent international investment arbitration cases relating to sustainable development issues.
Inwestycje międzynarodowe są coraz częściej przedmiotem kontrowersji i debat. W szczególności wówczas, gdy międzynarodowe prawo inwestycyjne stoi w obliczu kwestii zrównoważonego rozwoju, zwłaszcza w kontekście międzynarodowego arbitrażu inwestycyjnego. Biorąc pod uwagę charakter międzynarodowego prawa inwestycyjnego, a szczególnie charakter mechanizmu rozstrzygania sporów, rodzajów środków zaskarżonych do trybunałów oraz wielkości rekompensat pieniężnych wnioskowanych przez inwestorów i często przyznawanych przez trybunały, kwestie zrównoważonego rozwoju stają się wyraźnie widoczne i sporne. Ponieważ zrównoważony rozwój stał się ważnym elementem głównych inicjatyw globalnych, programów politycznych i ruchów społecznych, międzynarodowe spory inwestycyjne dotyczące kwestii zrównoważonego rozwoju zyskują wiele uwagi na całym świecie. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu zwrócenie uwagi na niektóre z najbardziej znanych i kontrowersyjnych międzynarodowych spraw arbitrażu inwestycyjnego dotyczących kwestii zrównoważonego rozwoju.

Opis:: One of the most popular ideas behind development at all levels of management in recent years is sustainable development. This study attempts to analysis financial determinants of sustainable development in local governments. The paper included to analyse and evaluate budgetary revenues and expenditures on environmental protection in local government entities, their operational and total sustainability, based on the data obtained from the Central Statistical Office of Poland collected in Local Data Bank. The historical data collected in the study allowed for ex-post analysis, calculation of the necessary indicators and assess them in the years 2008-2014. The analysis was carried out through comparison, and the data for local governments in gminas of the Silesian Voivodeship were compared to arithmetic means of gminas in total in Poland.
Jedną z najpopularniejszych idei przyświecających rozwojowi na wszystkich poziomach zarządzania staje się w ostatnich latach zrównoważony rozwój. W opracowaniu podjęto rozważania na temat finansowych uwarunkowań ekorozwoju samorządów lokalnych. Przeprowadzono badania własne obejmujące analizę oraz ocenę dochodów i wydatków budżetowych JST poniesionych na ochronę środowiska, ich operacyjna i całkowitą zdolność do ekorozwoju na podstawie danych GUS zgromadzonych w Banku Danych Lokalnych. Zebrane dane historyczne umożliwiły podjęcie analizy ex-post, obliczenie wskaźników oraz dokonanie ich oceny w latach 2008-2014. Analiza została przeprowadzona w ujęciu porównawczym, dane samorządów gminnych w województwie śląskim odniesiono do średnich arytmetycznych dla gmin ogółem w Polsce.

Opis:: The paper illustrates the introduction of ecological innovations by a Polish company operating within the rendering industry. The investment resulted not only in the management of large amounts of waste, but also enabled their re-use, thus contributing to environmental protection. However, this is not the only effect of the investments. An improved innovative production process enabled the company to improve its financial situation and, consequently, to gain the position of one of the leaders in the rendering industry in Poland. The methods applied in the research included a descriptive method, a case study method, a personal interview and ratio analysis of financial statements from the examined company. The study used data and materials provided by the company.
Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie przykładu wprowadzenia innowacji o charakterze ekologicznym przez polskie przedsiębiorstwo działające w przemyśle utylizacyjnym. Inwestycja ta spowodowała nie tylko zagospodarowanie znacznych ilości odpadów, ale umożliwiła także ich ponowne wykorzystanie, przyczyniając się tym samym do ochrony środowiska naturalnego. Nie jest to jednak jedyny efekt przeprowadzonych inwestycji. Udoskonalony, innowacyjny proces produkcji pozwolił przedsiębiorstwu poprawić sytuację finansową oraz w konsekwencji osiągnąć pozycję jednego z liderów w przemyśle utylizacyjnym w Polsce. Metodami badawczymi były metoda opisowa, analiza przypadku, metoda wywiadu osobistego oraz analiza wskaźnikowa sprawozdań finansowych badanej firmy. Wykorzystano dane i materiały udostępnione przez przedsiębiorstwo.

Opis:: Authors represent research paper related to social investment. This study aims to provide an introduction and overview of social investment as a new investment approach for solving social or environmental problems with capital purposely directed to traditionally underserved individuals or groups and financing provided to businesses with a clear social or environmental purpose. In this perspective, social investments have grown fast. We assert that practice of social investments has its significant features that distinguish this investment approach from the others, such as the motives and target benchmarks, expectations of the level of profitability, risk/ income/ influence profile, market infrastructure, methods, financial instruments and products. We suggest to consider financial capital from social investments market as an alternative financing for sustainable development.
Niniejszy artykuł jest poświęcony problematyce inwestycji społecznych. Jego głównym celem jest zaprezentowanie inwestycji społecznie odpowiedzialnych jako nowego podejścia do rozwiązywania problemów społecznych i środowiskowych ukierunkowanych na dotychczas pomijane jednostki i grupy oraz przedsięwzięcia o jasno zdefiniowanych celach społecznych lub środowiskowych. W tej perspektywie inwestycje społeczne szybko rosły. W artykule stwierdzono, że praktyka inwestycji społecznych ma swoje istotne cechy, które odróżniają to podejście inwestycyjne od innych, takie jak motywy i docelowe poziomy odniesienia, oczekiwania dotyczące poziomu rentowności, profilu ryzyka/ dochodów/ wpływu, infrastruktury rynkowej, metod, instrumentów finansowych i produktów. Zaproponowano rozważenie kapitału finansowego z rynku inwestycji społecznych jako alternatywnego finansowania zrównoważonego rozwoju.

Opis:: Zrównoważone budownictwo (sustainable building industry) coraz wyraźniej wpisuje się w nowy, kształtujący się dopiero obszar wiedzy zwany sustainable science. Obecnie rozpatruje się je głównie przez pryzmat obiektów budowlanych, koncentrując się na projektach architektoniczno-konstrukcyjnych, technologiach budowlanych, eksploatacji i likwidacji obiektów ocenianych z punktu widzenia energo i materiałochłonności, uciążliwości dla środowiska i szkodliwości dla życia i zdrowia człowieka. W tym nurcie dociekań niewiele miejsca poświęca się organizacjom uczestniczącym w budowlanych procesach inwestycyjnych. Autor podejmuje próbę wypełnienia tej luki. Używając pojęcia zrównoważony proces budowlany, wyjaśnia rolę i istotę uczestnictwa w nim zrównoważonych inwestorów, biur projektowych, przedsiębiorstw budowlanych i organów administracji państwowej.
Sustainable construction is becoming an ever more integral part of the new developing field of knowledge called sustainable science. At the present time it is considered mainly in terms of buildings and structures, concentrating on architectural plans and designs, construction technologies, ways of use, and the elimination of structures based on evaluation of energy and material consumption, environmental burden and risk to human life and health. In this line of inquiry little space is devoted to the organizations participating in construction investment processes. In this article the author attempts to fill that gap. Using the concept of a sustainable construction process, he explains the role and importance of the participation in that process of sustainable investors, design firms, construction firms and administrative authorities.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to present and analyze fundamental data concerning the market of ecological investment funds (EIF) in German-speaking Europe (GSE) to assess the current state and prospects for this market. The hypothesis in the paper is formulated as follows: “The ecological investment funds market has been developing dynamically in the GSE region”. In the research paper, critical aspects of the functioning of socially responsible investment (SRI), both theoretical and practical, were also presented as well. The following research methods were used: critical analysis of the literature, desk research, descriptive, comparative methods and deduction method. The results prove the above-mentioned hypothesis. The primary conclusion from the research is that further development of the described market is to be expected. It was also hinted that achievements in the ecological evolution of the financial markets could become the inspiration for the financial market in Poland.
Celem artykułu jest prezentacja i analiza podstawowych danych dotyczących rynku ekologicznych funduszy inwestycyjnych na obszarze Niemiec, Austrii, Szwajcarii i Luksemburga, aby określić stan i perspektywy tego rynku. Hipoteza postawiona w artykule brzmi, iż na analizowanym obszarze dynamicznie rozwija się rynek ekologicznych funduszy inwestycyjnych (EFI). W materiale zaprezentowano również aspekty krytyczne funkcjonowania inwestowania społecznie odpowiedzialnego (SRI) w aspekcie zarówno teoretycznym, jak i praktycznym. Przygotowując niniejsze opracowanie, wykorzystano następujące metody badawcze: krytycznej analizy literatury przedmiotu, danych zastanych, opisową, porównawczą, dedukcji. Uzyskane wyniki potwierdzają hipotezę. Podstawowym wnioskiem z przeprowadzonych badań jest to, że można oczekiwać dalszego rozwoju opisywanego rynku. Wskazano również; że osiągnięcia w zakresie ekologicznej ewolucji rynku finansowego mogą stanowić inspirację dla polskiego rynku finansowego.

Opis:: Europejska polityka transportowa na pierwszą połowę XXI wieku zakłada stworzenie systemu transportu zorganizowanego z poszanowaniem zasady zrównoważonego rozwoju, zaspokajającego gospodarcze, społeczne i ekologiczne potrzeby społeczeństwa oraz sprzyjającego budowaniu zintegrowanego społeczeństwa i konkurencyjnej Europy. Istotnym instrumentem tej polityki jest zastosowanie alternatywnych paliw i napędów w środkach transportu publicznego. W artykule przedstawiono stosowane w transporcie publicznym paliwa i napędy alternatywne. Omówiono założenia metodyczne oceny efektywności finansowej inwestycji związanych z pozyskiwaniem środków transportu publicznego z napędem alternatywnym oraz wyniki oceny dla wybranych napędów alternatywnych.
European transport policy for the first half the 21st century assumes creating the transport system organised with the respect of the principle of sustainable development, providing economic, social and ecological needs of the society and supporting construction of the integrated society and entirely integrated and competitive Europe. Applying alternative fuels and drives in public transport vehicles is an essential instrument of this policy. In the paper fuels applied in the urban transport and alternative drives were described. Methodological establishments of evaluation of the investment's financial and economical effectiveness associated with acquiring public means of transport with the alternative drive were discussed as well as results of the effectiveness evaluation of selected applications of alternative drives.

Opis:: In this article author – based on literature, documents and statistical data - attempted to analyze the problem of protection surface waters in Lubuskie in the context of the implementation of European Union policy. A review of concepts relating to the EU Water Framework Directive and integrated water management was made. Investment activities in the field of water and wastewater were compared with environmental data in order to obtain a synthetic evaluation of the scale of the province. In summary applied conclusions.
W opracowaniu podjęto – na podstawie literatury, dokumentów oraz danych statystycznych – próbę analizy problemu ochrony wód powierzchniowych w województwie lubuskim w kontekście realizacji polityki Unii Europejskiej. Dokonano przeglądu pojęć dotyczących Ramowej Dyrektywy Wodnej UE i zintegrowanego zarządzania wodami. Działania inwestycyjne w zakresie gospodarki wodno-ściekowej porównano z danymi środowiskowymi w celu uzyskania syntetycznej oceny w skali omawianego województwa. W podsumowaniu opracowania zawarto wnioski.
