    This article examines the different manifestations of alternative temporalities in Ali Smith’s Goldsmiths Award novel How to be Both (2014). My argument is that the novel ‘queers’ understandings of time in two significant ways: by highlighting new possibilities of narrative structure that challenge linear conceptions of time and by questioning regulated notions of developmental temporalities in terms of progression from childhood to heteronormative adulthood. Hence, by drawing on the compelling framework of queer temporalities, the main goal of this article is to analyze the mechanisms deployed by Ali Smith to generate unprecedented configurations of queer time.

    The article compares two versions of Miron Białoszewski’s American journal. The first one is censored, literarily elaborated and published officially in communist times, albeit posthumously. The other is a crude piece from Białoszewski’s Secret Diary. Both versions are analysed as attempts to come out in literature. In his American journal written in 1982, Białoszewski searched for a “third way” between communism and the Solidarity movement – namely, in the (homo)sexual liberation which he found in porn cinemas, darkrooms, and sex shops.

    In this paper, the author presents a pedagogical insight of conducting a detailed exploratory study through methodological departures within the subjective boundaries of a specific field. The work is based upon inferences drawn from the study of “queer” identities in an urban but inherently parochial setting of a postcolonial city – Kolkata. The paper attempts to map and chart the various aspects of conducting qualitative research in a relatively unexplored area, with rapidly evolving socio-cultural values and systems of identity formation. The paper charts out the experiences from the field, while dealing with both the apparent and the esoteric, with objective and empirical evidence to support the arguments presented herein.

    Szkic jest poświęcony amerykańskiemu nurtowi awangardowemu New Narrative, powstałemu w latach siedemdziesiątych XX wieku, oraz strategiom poetyckim towarzyszącym jego społeczno-politycznemu zaangażowaniu w sytuację mniejszości seksualnych. Autorka szkicu przedstawia twórczość trzech postaci z nim związanych: Eileen Myles, Magdaleny Zurawski i CA Conrada, których utwory i działania artystyczne skupiają się na problematyce obywatelstwa i suwerenności osób LGBTQ+ żyjących w USA. Proponuje analizę dorobku tych twórców w kontekście refleksji filozoficznej Achillego Mbembe dotyczącej nekropolityki, która rozwijana jest obecnie na gruncie amerykańskim także w odniesieniu do osób queer i praktyk queerowych. 
    This article discusses the American avant-garde movement called New Narrative, which originated in the 1970s, as well as the poetic strategies that accompanied its socio-political involvement in the cause of emancipation of sexual minority groups. The author discusses the output of three representatives of this movement: Eileen Myles, Magdalena Zurawski, and CA Conrad, whose work and artistic activity have focused on the problems of civil rights and the freedoms, or lack thereof, of LGBTQ+ persons in the United States. The author undertakes an analysis of the three artists’ output within the context of the philosophical reflections of Joseph-Achille Mbembe on the necropolitics, a body of ideas currently investigated in the US in relation to queer identity and queer practices.
