    The debut novel Winternähe by the young German-Jewish author Mirna Funk is a paradigmatic illustration of the post Shoah literature of the third, the grandchildren generation. The novel expounds on against background of the death of Shoah-survivors, the new ways of dealing with the family past and transnational Shoah memory in a complex relation to the globality and mobility as current conditions of the modern life. Funk’s novel also expounds on the subversive strategies, which are inherent in modern virtual communication media like Facebook or Instagram.

    Opis:
    The paper deals with Thomas Hettche’s novel Pfaueninsel, which is interpreted as a story about the Other. The category of otherness refers to the main character, Marie Strakon, a dwarf in the service of the King of Prussia in the 19th century, and to the place of action, Peacock Island near Berlin. Hettche’s historiographical metafiction is a fictional biography of a woman whose physical otherness places her in opposition to the orders established by humans: social, cultural, aesthetic, and historical. Peacock Island, in turn, transformed into an artificial paradise, is a heterotopic sphere of otherness contrasting with Berlin, an urban space of civilisation, progress, and the Industrial Revolution. The story of the Peacock Island biotope illustrates the emergence and evolution of ecological consciousness in the 19th century; it constitutes a motif of non-anthropocentric history being “the Other” of the ‘great’ history of humans. The paper shows how different dimensions of otherness are constructed in relation to the main protagonist and to the island space.

    „[D]ie Erinnerung [ist] das Einzige […], was uns aus dem Paradies der Gegenwart vertreibt.” Zu Aushandlungsprozessen von Vergangenheit in der Gegenwart der dritten Post-Shoah-Generation: Ramona Ambs Die radioaktive Marmelade meiner Grossmutter (2013) und Channah Trzebiner Die Enkelin (2013) Der vorliegende Beitrag analysiert zwei Debütromane von den Vertreterinnen der dritten Post-Shoah- Generation Ramona Ambs und Channah Trzebiner. Beide literarische Projekte thematisieren einen konfliktreichen, schwierigen Prozess der Aneignung und Neuverortung des Shoah-Gedächtnisses vor dem Hintergrund der Aktualität des 21. Jahrhunderts. Die Romane fokussieren die veränderte liminale Situation der Vertreterinnen der jungen Enkelinnengeneration mit der für sie zentralen Frage nach der generationellen Positionierung in der Vermittlungskette aber ohne Deutungshochheit der Zeitzeugen und der veränderten Erinnerungshandlung.
    This paper provides an analysis of two novels of Ramona Ambs i Channah Trzebiner, representatives of the third generation after the Shoah. Both novels expound on issues related to the conflict-prone process of transmitting the memory of the Shoah to the contemporary context of the 21st-century reality. The works of these two young German-Jewish writers reflect the complicated and tensioned borderline situation of the young generation. With the declining number of those who have directly witnessed the Holocaust it seems necessary again to redefine their identity and to find new ways of dealing with memory.
    Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest analizie dwóch powieści przedstawicielek trzeciej generacji post-Szoa Ramony Ambs i Channahy Trzebiner. Obie powieści problematyzują pełen konfliktów proces przenoszenia pamięci o Zagładzie do kontekstu współczesnej rzeczywistości XXI wieku. Utwory obu młodych żydowsko-niemieckich pisarek ukazują skomplikowaną i pełną napięć sytuację graniczną młodego pokolenia. Wraz ze śmiercią pokolenia świadków konieczne staje się ponowne określenie własnej tożsamości i sposobu obchodzenia się z pamięcią.

    Opis:
    The aim of this paper is to analyse and interprete the prose text Vor der Zunahme der Zeichen by the young, German-speaking writer who as a child fled from the civil war in Sri Lanka. The paper provides an analysis of the contingency of language signs (like homeland, descent, native language, identity) which is a function of the experience of flight, exile, and live in the globalized and electronic media-dominated world. The central role in the novel is played by the relation between death and literary language and its communicative and perception function.
    Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje analizę i interpretację tekstu prozatorskiego Vor der Zunahme der Zeichen autorstwa młodego niemieckojęzycznego autora, który jako dziecko zmuszony był do ucieczki przed wojną domową w Sri Lance. Zasadniczym punktem analizy jest kontyngentyzm znaków językowych (takich jak ojczyzna, pochodzenie, język ojczysty, tożsamość), który wynika z doświadczenia ucieczki, emigracji oraz życia w zglobalizowanym i owładniętym przez media elektroniczne świecie. Szczególną rolę w powieści odgrywa również refleksja nad wpływem doświadczenia śmierci na język literacki i na jego funkcję poznawcza i komunikatywną.

    In NINO HARATISCHWILIS Roman Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) versucht die Erzählerin Niza vergeblich, die sowjetische Geschichte Georgiens und die individuelle Geschichte ihrer Familie zwischen 1900 und 2006 aufeinander bezogen darzustellen. Der Aufsatz argumentiert, dass in den Defiziten des Erzählprogramms Nizas Widersprüche einer für den Generationenroman typischen Erzählpoetik produktiv gemacht werden, der es nicht gelingt, individuelle, familiäre und politische Geschichte zu einem sinnstiftenden Narrativ zu verbinden. Am Ende des Romans steht deshalb ein Medienwechsel von der literarischen Geschichtsdarstellung zu ihrer performativen Verkörperung im Tanz, in dem die theatrale Adaption des Romans, wie sie JETTE STECKEL 2017 am Thalia Theater Hamburg inszenierte, bereits angelegt ist.
    In NINO HARATISCHWILI’S Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) the novel’s narrator, Niza, unsuccessfully attempts to relate Georgia’s Soviet history and her family’s history between 1900 and 2006. The paper argues that the deficits in Niza’s narrative programme are actually productive contradictions, which are typical of the narrative poetics of the generational novel, in that it does not succeed in synthesising the individual, familial and political histories into one meaningful narrative. The end of the novel therefore changes to a new medium: from the literary representation of history, to its performative embodiment in dance. This anticipates the theatrical adaptation of the novel by JETTE STECKEL at the Thalia Theater Hamburg in 2017.
    W powieści NINO HARATISCHWILI Das achte Leben (Für Brilka) (Ósme życie – dla Brilki) narratorka Niza podejmuje nieudane próby przedstawienia radzieckiej historii Gruzji oraz związanej z nią indywidualnej historii swojej własnej rodziny w latach 1900-2006. Artykuł dostrzega w deficytach opowiadania Nizy sprzeczności. Wynikają one z wykorzystania poetyki narracyjnej, charakterystycznej dla powieści pokoleniowej, której nie udaje się powiązać ze sobą historii indywidualnej, rodzinnej i politycznej w jedno, mające wspólny sens opowiadanie. Koniec powieści posługuje się w związku z tym nowym medium: rezygnuje z literackiego opowiadania o historii i przechodzi do jej performatywnego ucieleśnienia w tańcu. Antycypuje ono adaptację teatralną, jaką była w 2017 r. inscenizacja JETTY STECKEL w Teatrze Thalia w Hamburgu.
