Opis:
In the University School of Physical Education in Warsaw the project entitled: “The Project of National Center for Research on Physical Fitness” (NCBKF) is being realized. The idea of this project comes from the long-standing tradition of national-level, population-based studies on physical development and fitness of children and adolescents, carried out by the Warsaw-based school. As a result of the studies, rich research material was gathered pertaining to the physical fitness of students in Polish schools. The project realization began in 2009, its basic functionality is expected to be achieved in 2012, whereas full functionality in 2015. The project called “Check yourself” has already been launched. This is a joint action of the University School of Physical Education in our country for the purpose of enabling auto-diagnosis in physical fitness of the largest possible number of members of Polish society. The authors of the project are convinced that realization of the NCBKF mission will result in health improvement of children, adolescents and adults and their more effective functioning in the contemporary world.

Opis:
Flexibility is one of the elements – components which support physical fitness and health as well (Howley, Franks, 1997; Bouchard, Shephard, 1994; Skinner, Oja, 1994). The purpose of this paper was to assess the impact of additional flexibility exercises on physical fitness in lower secondary school students, evaluated by means of IPFT (the International Physical Fitness Test). The study was conducted in two experimental groups, where extra flexibility exercises were added to all obligatory PE lessons, and one control group. 1. The decreased standard deviation observed in particular IPFT attempts in the experimental class is the correct tendency showing the favorable influence of flexibility exercises on students’ physical fitness and health. 2. An improvement and considerably better, though statistically insignificant, results were obtained by the students involved in the additional exercises, in all assessed motor skills (strength, speed, endurance and flexibility) and in the scoring reflecting the level of physical fitness. 3. After one year of exercises the control group had worse average results in two attempts – 50 m run (to assess speed) and standing forward bend (to measure flexibility). This trend indicates the importance of flexibility exercises as regards speed and agility.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of discipline and physical fitness on the performance of physical education teachers. This study uses the path analysis method. This research to find the direct effect between variables discipline and physical fitness on the work of physical education teachers. The sample used 102 certified physical education teachers in the province of Southeast Sulawesi. Discipline and performance are measured using questionnaires that have been validated by experts. Physical fitness is measured by using five items of fitness tests namely body lift test for men and elbow bend for girls, sit-ups, push-ups running back and forth and also endurance that is running with a distance of 2.4 km. Data analysis technique used path analysis. The finding of the variable such as, 1) discipline variable (X2) has a direct positive effect on teacher performance (Y), amounting to (R2 = 0.160). 2) physical fitness variable (X3) has a direct positive effect on teacher performance (Y), amounting to (R2 = 0.376), 3) discipline variable (X2) has a direct positive effect on physical fitness (X3), amounting to (R2 = 0.889). Based on the two independent variables that gave the greatest contribution to improving the performance of physical education teachers was physical fitness (R2 = 0.376). In this case a teacher who has good physical fitness will also have good performance.

Opis:
Introduction and objective. The aim of the study was to determine changes in the fitness level among students of the Main Fire Service School during 3-year’s education. Methods. A total of 75 male and 5 female students took part in the study. Fitness level measurements were carried out before beginning the studies (Measurement 0) and after the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years at the school (Measurement 1, 2, 3). The following tests were performed to estimate level of physical fitness for men: pull-ups on a bar, a 50 m sprint and 1,000 m run, and for women: sit-ups, medical ball (2 kg) throw from above the head and a 4 x10 m shuttle run. Results. General fitness level (average number of points from 3 attempts) of the male and female students improved. Improvement of fitness level between Measurement 0 (male students 60.3p.±7.58; female students 61.60p.±3.08), and Measurements 1, 2, 3 (men 64.59p.±6.87; 64.41p.±7.17; 64.03p.±7.65 and women 68.40p.±1.99; 66.67p.±2.36; 68.87±1.87 respectively), was found. The same relationship was found while analysing results of individual competitions. Only speed endurance (anaerobic-aerobic) assessed during Measurement 0 at 64.03p.±10.23, decreased after the 1st year at the school (Measurement 1 – 59.29p.±14.14) and remained on the same level during Measurements 2 and 3 (60.25p.±11.20 and 58.56p. ±12.80, respectively). Conclusion. Speed endurance (anaerobic-aerobic) is a capability which decreased among the students in the subsequent years. Because this capability highly correlates with activities that a fire-fighter will perform during rescue operations, it should be treated as a matter of priority during physical education classes in the Main Fire Service School.

Opis:
Introduction. This study was designed to obtain information about the personal exercise behavior and to evaluate the relationship between attitudes towards physical activity and personal exercise practices of future physiotherapists and to determine whether physiotherapy specialty is associated with physical activity. Material and methods The study involved 196 first year students of Division of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Military Medicine, Medical University of Lodz. Personal exercise practice and attitudes towards physical activity were assessed by questionnaire. Results Taking professional sports training was declared only by 4 % of respondents and amateur sports training by more than half of the physiotherapy students (57%). Only 3% of future physiotherapist practiced sports 5 times a week or more, 19% 3-4 times a week, 32% - rarely, but steadily. Almost half of respondents (46 %) said that they do not take physical activity regularly. 39% of future physiotherapists admitted that apart from compulsory classes at the University they practiced no additional physical activity. Statistically significant difference was found in sports participation between man and women (p<0.00378). Conclusions Physiotherapy students are aware about the beneficial effects of regular physical activity on health but this knowledge is not correlated with personal exercise behavior. The level of physical activity among future physiotherapists is not greater than among the rest of the society. In the education of future physiotherapists the emphasis should be placed on increasing the level of physical activity, so necessary in this profession.
Cel. Celem pracy było uzyskanie informacji na temat podejmowania aktywności fizycznej w czasie wolnym oraz ocena relacji między postawami wobec aktywności fizycznej a praktykowaniem sportu przez przyszłych fizjoterapeutów. Materiał i metody. Badaniem objęto 196 studentów I roku dwóch kolejnych roczników Kierunku Fizjoterapii Wydziału Wojskowo-Lekarskiego. Częstotliwość i charakter podejmowanej aktywności fizycznej oraz postawy wobec aktywności fizycznej zostały zbadane na podstawie kwestionariusza. Wyniki Podejmowanie profesjonalnego treningu sportowego deklaruje 4% badanych, a ponad połowa studentów fizjoterapii (57%) deklaruje udział w sporcie amatorskim.

The aim of this pilot study was to determine (a) the effects of high intensity strength training in the workplace on blood pressure, fat percentage and physical fitness in overweight adults, and (b) the influence of this intervention on the blood pressure in a subsample of hypertensive subjects. Overweight adults (n=15) aged 42.8 years underwent anthropometric assessment (weight, fat percentage, waist circumference, and triceps skinfold), physical fitness assessment (leg extensor power, upper body endurance, hand grip strength and Vo2max) and blood pressure assessment before and after 8 weeks of high intensity resistance training in the workplace. Each training session consisted of 16 sets of 45 repetitions performed at 1 repetition per second, decreasing load at the point of muscular failure starting at 60% of repetition maximum (RM). The effects of the intervention were analyzed by paired sample t-tests. For exploratory purposes, a non-parametric test was also performed (Wilcoxon matched-pair signed-rank) to examine if this decision could affect the results. Weight, body fat percentage, and triceps skinfold decreased significantly with the high intensity resistance training protocol in the workplace (all P<0.05). Performance in physical fitness tests increased significantly with training (all P<0.05), except for handgrip strength. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly with R-HIRT in the workplace (all P <0.05) in hypertensive subjects (n=10). This protocol performed in the workplace in this pilot study produces health and fitness benefits in overweight and hypertensive people.

The aim of the article was to evaluate the physical fitness of selected air force soldiers from the 31st Tactical Base Air. The study material involved the results of the yearly physical fitness evaluation conducted in 2017. The physical fitness test involves four categories: endurance, upper limbs strength, abdominal muscles strength, as well as speed and agility. The analysis involved 254 persons classified into 8 age groups. The corps included: officers (92), non-commissioned officers (NCOs) (135), and privates (26). The officers achieved the best physical fitness results; the NCOs were evaluated slightly worse; and the privates achieved results similar to those of the officers. In the case of life quality, over 90% of the studied were very or fairly satisfied with their family life, health, friends and acquaintances, and with themselves. Over 80% of the respondents assessed positively (fairly of very satisfied) their life regarding domestic duties, professional work, leisure time, education, place of living, and livings standards. In the analyzed sphere of life, more respondents were satisfied than dissatisfied with their life. The studied assessed the level of satisfaction or lack of satisfaction in 14 spheres that were: family life, health, neighbours, friends and acquaintances, domestic duties, professional life, life in Poland, leisure time, education, earnings and savings, accommodation, place of living, living standards, opinion of themselves. The answers were assessed on a five-point scale from "very dissatisfied" to "very satisfied".
Celem badań jest ocena sprawności fizycznej wybranych żołnierzy zawodowych Sił Powietrznych pełniących służbę w 31. Bazie Lotnictwa Taktycznego, na podstawie wyników corocznego egzaminu z wychowania fizycznego przeprowadzonego w 2017 roku. Sprawdzian sprawności fizycznej obejmuje cztery kategorie ćwiczeń: wytrzymałość, siłę mięśni kończyn górnych, siłę mięśni brzucha oraz szybkość i zwinność. W analizie uwzględniono 254 badane osoby podzielone na 8 grup wiekowych. Żołnierze należeli do korpusów osobowych: oficerowie (92 badanych), podoficerowie (135 badanych) i szeregowi (26 badanych). Najlepsze wyniki z egzaminu sprawności fizycznej osiągnęli oficerowie, nieco niższe oceny uzyskali podoficerowie. Szeregowi dorównywali ocenami do korpusu oficerskiego. Badani oceniali poziom swojego zadowolenia bądź niezadowolenia w 14 sferach, które obejmowały: życie rodzin¬ne, zdrowie, sąsiadów, przyjaciół i znajomych, zajęcia domowe, pracę zawodowa, życie w Polsce, czas wolny, posiadane wykształcenie, zarobki i oszczędności, mieszkanie, miejsce zamieszkania, standard życia, opinię o sobie. Odpowiedzi udzielano na pięciostopniowej skali od „jestem zdecydowanie niezadowolony" do „jestem bardzo zadowolony".

Opis:
This study examined relationships between the components of physical fitness and athletic performance in youth pole-vaulters in a secondary school setting. Twenty-five adolescents of both genders, between the ages of 15 and 18, participated in the study. This case study was grounded on qualitative and quantitative approaches of data analysis, measuring physical abilities self-assessment based on the questionnaire developed by Borg et al. [11] and measuring high-performance effect linking age and gender with the levels of the pole vault performance. The results indicate that, overall, the six dimensions of fitness (coordination, strength, flexibility, speed, endurance, and body self-image) are correlated with physical fitness (r varies between 0.29 and 0.65, p<0.05). The significance is very high in teenage boys for perceived strength and perceived endurance respectively (r=0.61, p <0.001 and r=0.65, p<0.001), whereas in teenage girls global physical fitness is highly correlated with endurance (r=0.63, p<0.001). Moreover, while endurance and flexibility have become a determinant of performance in the girl group in the perceived physical fitness category, strength and perceived speed are the most important components in the boy group. An effect of age was only considered for strength, endurance and perceived fitness. No effect of body self-image on pole vault performance was identified, with non-significant correlation in the two genders, girls and boys respectively (r=0.11, r=0.16). The significant role of physical fitness levels in determining motor exercise performance in adolescence may have further implications for gender roles and talent prospecting as well as potential physical condition benefits for exploring new sports.

Opis:
The problem of physical fitness in the 21st century society is, on the one hand, the result of the last century negligence, and on the other, a natural result of a deepening regression of pro-health education among young people. Such a situation negatively affects both the health and physical condition of society, which indirectly also affects the level of state security. Physical fitness is an indispensable condition for the effective functioning of all services in this sector, especially uniformed formations such as the armed forces, the police, and many others in their areas of responsibility. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to change the society’s habits, but it is possible to develop new habits among young people by focusing on pro-health education, i.e., education and upbringing in the spirit of responsibility for their own health and physical fitness. Therefore, the main goal of this article is to show the essence of the problem of young people’s pro-health education in the context of the fitness level decline in the 21st century society, and how these issues can be discussed in the face of contemporary threats. The paper also includes references to the issue of education and health promotion strategy among young people in order to identify the causes of the decline in society’s fitness level. The issues addressed were studied using theoretical research methods, i.e., analysis, synthesis, abstraction, explanation, generalisation, and inference.

The aim of this study is to see if there are significant relationships between different variables of physical condition and academic performance. Most literature shows that a relationship does exist, mainly emphasizing maximal oxygen consumption and academic performance. With regard to the other variables, more differences can be found. A total of 79 students participated in the study from the island of Majorca (Spain), ranging in age from 12.5 to 14.5 years. Students passed fitness tests, which were compared with their academic results. The results show a significant positive relationship between BMI and hand grip strength and significant negative relationships between BMI and note and between BMI and maximal oxygen consumption. No significant relationships have been found, however, between maximal oxygen consumption and note. Assessment of the importance of physical condition and therefore physical education in academic performance is of interest in order to implement the necessary hours of Physical Education. Opis:
Introduction. During P.E. classes primary school students (grade 4) ought to improve their level of physical fitness, including coordinative motor abilities, as well as to acquire motor skills which enable them to take part in various forms of physical activity in an active and safe way. Unfortunately, in physical education of children and young people the main emphasis is still placed on the improvement of fitness abilities. We have to bear in mind, however, that the level of coordinative abilities limits significantly the improvement of necessary fitness abilities and vice versa. Our research was aimed at determining what dependencies exist between the results of selected coordinative motor abilities and ten-year-old children’ results of the tests designed by the International Committee for the Standardization of Physical Fitness Tests. Material and methods. The research group consisted of 93 students of primary schools in the town of Wołów. In order to determine the level of the particular components of physical fitness we employed the trials of the International Committee for the Standardization of Physical Fitness Tests (ICSPFT). For assessing the particular coordinative abilities we used the following tests: ‘run for the balls’, ‘stopping the rolling ball’, ‘long standing jump with 50% of maximum possibilities’, ‘long standing jump forward and backward’. Results. According to research findings there is a relationship between the improvement of the selected coordinative motor abilities and some of the components of physical fitness. Conclusions. Therefore, a physical education teacher are advised caution in choosing physical exercises and games, taking into consideration comprehensive motor development of students, including their coordinative motor abilities.
