Opis:
In Senegal, where 94 per cent of the society are Muslims, the position of women differs from the most Islamic countries. The causes of this characteristic phenomenon are on the history, the religion, the philosophy and the pragmatism of Senegal. The fact that this country was for a very long time under different cultural and religious influences makes its people open-minded. Women participate in every field of activities. The main decisions in order to improve the situation of women, the equality of rights in the society, were taken since the Senegal's independence in 1960. That's why a Muslim woman in Senegal is able to carry out an active professional and social life, with keeping on her religious identity. There for the Senegalese society shows that Islam and modernity can exist in harmony. The Senegalese case shows also that Islam in Africa does not destroy native African culture.

Opis:
The author of the article describes the operations of the radical organization of The Society of the Muslim Brothers in Algeria, which is the first structure of the Islamic fundamentalism, created in Egypt in 1936 by Hassan Al Banna, a theoretician and the first leader of the organization. Muslim Brotherhood became the mother- organization of all further structures and organizations of Muslim fundamentalists. The author is portraying the social and political context of the birth of this political movement and its beginnings in Algeria. The French colonialism was also one of the causes of this movement in Algeria. Muslim Brotherhood has skillfully linked religious campaigning and active gap-filling in the social policy of the state. Their goal is building the system of the social network of mutual aid and establishing an alternative, strictly Islamic society. Muslim Brotherhood has also theoretically and practically accepted terrorist methods as the way of the political struggle for achieving established goals. The author is portraying circumstances of its activity in Algeria and potential international threats associated with it, as well as the beginnings of terrorism in this country. He also describes the election of 1990 and the circumstance of winning the election by fundamentalist parties as well as the coup d'etat and the takeover carried out by military junta as well as the evolution of the political situation in Algeria after the coup d'etat.

The concept of Jadidism - the reform movement among Muslims in the Russian Empire - at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and to the present day has beeen of interest to researchers. Scientists discuss it not only the issues of terminology, but also in regard to determining the exact date of the occurrence of this phenomenon and determining its most important stages. Representatives of this movement have been recorded on the pages of history, and their achievements today are an extremely rich source for analysis, mainly due to the ideas they proclaim, which at the turn of the centuries were courageous, and sometimes innovative. The article aims to present the concept of Jadidism in the context of socio-religious changes among the Muslim (Tatar) community in the Russian Empire at the turn of nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Egypt is a place with a long tradition of female participation in revolutions. After years of Mubarak’s despotism, women joined the revolution once again. As a result, they had to deal with the violation of women’s rights. When Morsi was removed, women were again at the top of political topics. The new constitution was described as the most progressive for women. Sisi has been a president for short time but he is already called the president of women. However women still face problems. They defended themselves from the Muslim Brotherhood’s rules by supporting Sisi, but did they really win by overthrowing the regime of Mubarak?

Muslim presence in Europe is an uneven and unfinished process. Muslim minority is visibly divided between supporters of the moderate, liberal version of Islam and the followers of radical version – Salafism, which is calling to make an effort to restore the meaning of Islam. The advantage wins Muslim fundamentalism. It is internally diverse divided into the following trends: political Salafism, which organises its activities around a political logic, the second is predicative Salafism, which bases its actions on preaching and religious teachings (da’wah), and finally revolutionary, jihadi Salafism. This is a challenge to the European security, as well to Muslims, whose unity (ummah) is disrupted. In the European Islam there is a war over the control of the community.

Islamic education
Muslim educational system
Kenya
Opis:
One of the most significant features of the modern countries in Africa is that an alien educational method was brought there from Europe and was combined with the indigenous African or Islamic educational structures and institutions. The new educational system, described as secular, conflicted especially with those existing systems which were religious in nature. Western education was, however, hard to resist because of all the advantages it contained in terms of preparing Africans for a new economic structure and technology, and the accompanying job opportunities. This led to the following dilemmas: Was it possible to combine the traditional and modern systems of education? Was it possible to modernise without eliminating the religious element of the educational system? These questions summarise the main problematic with which the Muslim scholars of the East African coast were confronted at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century’s. It was the time when the Arab Islamic civilisation provided the ideal model for Muslim practice and conduct as a new European model of life was emerging. And all this was taking place in a particular cultural context, Swahili. Some leaders of the Swahili Islamic community realized that there was no alternative to modifying their traditional system of education and opening it to the modern tendencies. One of these leaders was Sheikh al-Amin b. Ali al-Mazrui. Through his various activities, teaching and writings, he strongly influenced the educational development of Islam in East Africa. This paper presents some aspects of Islamic education in Kenya, where the traditional Islamic concept of education has encountered one of its greatest challenges: modern education. The clash between these two entirely different concepts created some problems and brought into question even fundamental elements of the previous system. Consequently, the mediaeval structure of the Quranic school was modernized and a new form, the madrasa, emerged, this also highlighted the problem of female education, so that, eventually, Muslim girls were allowed to acquire a proper education. The educational problems that arose on the East African coast at the beginning of the past century are reflected in the life activity of Sheikh al-Amin. His legacy and the clash between these two concepts had far-reaching consequences, which continue today. The particular focus of this work concerns aspects of the educational system of the East African coast at the beginning of the twentieth century. This is of great personal interest since the author has had the opportunity of working as a Catholic missionary in various Kenyan schools where he experienced the mission challenges of Islam in Kenya.

In the current context of increased attention to the Muslim minority and the religiously framed conflicts of some segments of Islam, this paper aims to contribute with empirical evidence on Muslim “problematicity” in Madrid, exploring their main barriers to social integration by analyzing the data from semi-structured interviews with Muslim leaders. Although the Muslim minority is officially recognized by the Spanish State, the legal provisions are not fully implemented. The lack of implementation hinders the Muslims’ proper social integration in Madrid and reveals the first category of problems identified, of operational character, which – with the proper implementation of the agreement – could be easily solved. Furthermore, the second type of problems emerges and refers to the increased concern on Muslim youth. The ongoing tensions between the majority and Muslim minorities, altogether with the tensions between Muslim parents and Muslim youth pose significant challenges to the latter and to the Spanish society as a whole, in long term, especially with the rise of the radicalization of Muslim youth.

This study is devoted to highlighting the temporal trends and spatial variations in the concentration and growth of the major religious groups in India with special reference to the Sikh population. Such studies are gaining importance with the increasing penetration of both the religion and castecomposition in the political environment of the country. Although religious and caste interventions in politics are prevalent in all the elections, these become stronger as we move down from Parliamentary to Panchayat elections in which the voting pattern changes in favour of religion and caste groups. It has been observed that the share of Muslim population increased by 5.96% between 2001 and 2011, while it declined in the case of all other communities and the maximum decline (-8.02%) was noticed in the case of the Sikh population with the lowest share among all the major religious communities in India. The Sikh population also recorded the lowest growth rate of 8.42% against 24.65% and 16.76% witnessed by Muslims and Hindus respectively between2001 and 2011. The study is based on the religious data released by the Census of India.

Sources of international terrorism vs. the world of Islam in EuropeThe article argues that general views regarding the matters of cultural globalization do not apply as far as Muslim countries are concerned. The dichotomy between the two worlds does not allow for an inter-cultural dialogue. This blockage could be stopped by specific modernization of history by Muslim societies and the way of thinking of the Islamic communities. The essence of the defensive nature of both the European and Muslim cultural identities can be applied to war against terrorism. Both cultures are currently undergoing a search phase. The positive attitude of the intercultural community towards other cultures and the changes brought about by the process of globalization are extremely important in this process which can lead to the cooperation and development of the comprehensive culture. Due to a deeply rooted unwillingness to collaborate, a multicultural community is impossible to originate.Terrorism does not result from fanatics’ misinterpretations of the role of religion and in fact is stimulated by global processes. The attempt to build truly civil societies in countries that readily accept immigrants along with all the freedoms that go along with them, as well as ensuring complete involvement in social and political life should be regarded as a specific point of reference in the prevention of the formation of Muslim fundamentalist organizations.
