Opis:
The aim of the present paper is to present two water wells from a settlement of the LBK culture at the site of Kruszyn 3/10, Włocławek commune. The features under consideration are dated to phase IIB of this culture in Kuyavia. They represent the simplest, timberless types of devices which were used to supply water. The author also pays attention to non-utalitarian aspects connected with cult and ritual meaning of water wells in the LBK societies.

Opis:
This article attempts to present some aspects of the spatial reconstruction, modes of use, and social relations in the longhouse settlements of the Linear Pottery culture (LBK) by means of a contextual distributional analysis of ground stone artefacts. Three LBK settlement complexes from Lesser Poland (southern Poland) were selected for analysis based on a considerable number of finds of ground stone tools yielded by the excavations. Accurate determination of the intended use of a stone object, as indicated by the traces of use on its surface, was of central importance. Based on the above data, the author has distinguished two types of household sectors in LBK settlements with longhouses, namely domestic and communal. It is argued that the inhabitants of a given longhouse used the domestic sector for their purposes, while the latter served the community. Significant differences in the proportions of ground stones were found between settlements and between the settlement phases of a village. This leads the author to consider whether there might have been specialized settlements for a particular microregion in addition to the function served by a single longhouse. Each settlement would have specialized in different household tasks.

Opis:
This article discusses stone artefacts made of amphibolite, which have been discovered within the area of the settlement of the Linear Band Pottery culture (LBK) at the site 22 in Świlcza (Świlcza commune). The researchers have found three adzes and a part of an unspecified tool at the site. These tools can be ascribed to the middle and late phase of the Linear Band Pottery culture. The products from amphibolite in the shape of a shoe-last are quite common at the sites of the discussed culture. The problem of naming this type of objects has been emphasised and a need to interpret their functions has been highlighted. The settlement in Świlcza is a part of a settlement network of that culture in the area of Rzeszów, which is also one of many settlement agglomerations of the Early Neolithic period in south-eastern Poland. Therefore, both the site itself and the artefacts recorded there will be presented in the context of the Linear Band Pottery culture settlement in the discussed area and more broadly in the light of similar finds from the area of the Czech Republic and Slovakia

Opis:
The article discusses the effectiveness of geomagnetic prospection in detecting such parts of the early-Neolithic settlements areas in the vicinity of the village of Targowisko in which traces of only one building phase have survived. The purpose of the surveying programme was to obtain assemblages of artefacts and ecofacts related to a period of time that would be as short as possible, i.e. to the existence of a single family living in one house, representing a single cultural tradition, without any older or younger materials. It was assumed that this objective could only be achieved on the boundaries of settlements inhabited over longer periods of time (cf. Grygiel 1986). Thus, the geomagnetic prospection was carried out in selected target areas covering northern or southern edges of large settlements of the Linear Pottery (LBK) culture and the Malice culture (MC), which had already been thoroughly surveyed as part of rescue excavations at the early-Neolithic settlement complex of Targowisko, in connection with the construction of highway A-4, approx. 30 km east of Cracow (Fig. 1). The results of the geomagnetic survey made it possible to demarcate zones, each having an area of 10 ares, at three sites for the purpose of confirming the validity of the planned research strategy. The test excavations at sites 16 and 14–15 in Targowisko and at site 40 in Brzezie met the expectations, yielding assemblages of artefacts from narrow time horizons. They will become the core of works on the reconstruction of cultural transformation micro-processes at the confluence of the LBK culture and the MC.

The article presents the results of test excavations at three sites in the early Neolithic settlement region of Targowisko, carried out in 2018–2019. The goal of these investigations was the detection of fragments of Neolithic settlement zones where only one building phase has survived. It was decided to perform this task using a magnetometer as part of a slightly wider program of geomagnetic prospection. The second goal was to acquire sets of arti- and ecofacts related to the shortest possible period of time, i.e. equal to the existence of one family living in one house, representing one cultural tradition. The third goal was to explain the generators and mechanisms of early Neolithic cultural transformation from a micro-regional perspective

Opis:
The article presents flint materials obtained from domestic facilities from the late phase of Linienbandkeramik from the Brzezie 40 and Targowisko 16 sites and the classic phase of the Malice culture from the 14–15 Targowisko site. These complexes contain relatively few monuments. Their advantage, however, is that they belong to chronologically compact groups. Since the relics of the discovered houses are spatially isolated from other settlement structures, it can be assumed that the set of flint artifacts belonging to them is relatively homogeneous. Thanks to this, they can contribute considerably to the discussion on the processes of cultural heterogenization and the origin of post-LBK cultures, including the Malice culture.

The aim of this short article is to present the results of archaeobotanical analysis of macroscopic plant remains obtained in 2018–2019, during the test excavations carried out on three selected sites from Targowisko settlement region (Brzezie 40, Targowisko 16 and 14–15). Thanks to the field research strategy adopted, chronologically compact plant remains were obtained from objects included in the house structures, coming from narrow time horizons, equal to the operation time of individual Linienbandkeramik houses from the beginning of the Želiezovce phase (Brzezie 40 and Targowisko 16) and the phase of the classic Malice culture (Targowisko 14–15).

Opis:
This article is an attempt at defining the basic factors which determined the settlement of cultures of Danubian origin in the area of Świecie Plateau. In case of the analysed area, this will concern the Linear Pottery Band culture as well as the Brześć Kujawski culture. The Świecie region was not chosen without reason. It is one of the areas on the Polish Lowland, where the character of colonization of the Early Neolithic communities has been explored relatively poorly. This contrasts with relatively well excavated areas of Greater Poland, Kuyavia or Chełmno Land. This study should not be treated as a comprehensive synthesis and reconstruction of all the phenomena of interest. Due to poor state of research, we had to leave out some essential issues, focusing on a general outline of the problem as well as the analysis of basic tendencies in distribution and location of settlement points of Danubian culture communities. The general evaluation of settlement of the Świecie area was based on the surface research data from studies conducted within the framework of the research project named Archaeological Picture of Poland. They will be supplemented by results of few field studies (Stare Marzy, site no. 5, commune of Dragacz), conducted as part of rescue excavations along the route of the planned highway A-1.
