The text was created to remind Antoni Józef Rolle`s historical tales. Antoni Józef Roll is a writer unjustly forgotten today by readers and critics, valued by his contemporaries prominent columnists such as Józef Ignacy Kraszewski and Teodor Tomasz Jeż. The purpose of the text is an attempt to discuss the sources of anecdotes and ways in which they attract attention of readers, the classification of both methods for inducing humor and its forms The text also presents methods of handling irony and derision, the use of humor and categories discussed by Bohdan Dziemidok (About humour. From Aristotle to today). The historical work of this storyteller from Podolia seems particularly worth reminding especially on the centenary of Henryk Sienkiewicz`s death, as both authors wrote about the military struggle in the Kresy area and demonstrated the same heroes.

The text is devoted to the problem of materiality in the perspective of transmedial artistic practices. The object of special interest is the principle of rapprochement between the medium and non-artistic matter, shown on examples of art that intentionally strengthen its relationship with various materials (so-called matter painting), and on the example of art that to a greater extent is subjected to the processes of dematerialization (hyperrealism, conceptualism). In the works of such painters as Antoni Tàpies, Jean Dubuffet, Lucio Fontana turning to non-literary materials leads to an interesting tension / rapprochement between the materials and the medium. It brings a retreat from the idealistic aesthetics and ahistorically treated matter, and opens up to non-antropocentrically captured objects. In the case of Jeff Wall’s post-conceptual photography, the principle of closeness draws attention to the ability of photography to annex various media. Transmediality, as it manifests itself in both Wall’s paintings of matter and his photographs, may be called, after Jacques Rancière, incommensurability.

The author analyses in detail the structure of the leading role based on the film “I’m yours” His analysis takes into account acting skills, the relations between the protagonists and adversaries and also cinematic time and space. He appreciates the role played by the screenwriter and establishes the principles for cooperation between actors and the director.This article is devoted to the director Antoni Bohdziewiczs creative output and teaching work at the Łódź Film School, to commemorate the 110th anniversary of his birth. The author presents Bohdziewiczs early days as a director at Polish Radio in Vilnius, and also his work as a film critic. A significant moment in Bohdziewiczs life was his leaving for Paris on a scholarship on Prof. Władysław Tatarkiewicz’ recommendation, where he produced several short films. On returning to Poland, Bohdziewicz enjoyed success mainly as a reporter for Polish Radio and also as the co-founder of the Imagination Theatre (Teatr Wyobraźni). When war broke out he got involved in underground activities, becoming one of the organisers recording the events of the Warsaw Uprising on film. Bohdziewiczs post-war activities were significantly affected by his appearance at the Filmmakers’ Congress in Wisła (1949), at which he spoke out against introducing the ideas of socialist realism. Bohdziewicz never felt fulfilled as a director, despite producing several films, including documentaries, feature films based on contemporary themes and literary adaptations. His true passion remained his lecturing work at the Łódź Film School. The article quotes many of his pupils and protegees, including Andrzej Wajda, Janusz Majewski, Kazimierz Kutz, who saw him as their master, and their artistic and spiritual guide through those times. Without exception they emphasise how Bohdziewicz lived solely for the School. In his later years he was strongly associated with the Film Discussion Club movement; he occasionally worked in theatre, wrote, and taught at the INSAS Film School in Brussels. With hindsight and from his pupils’ remembrances, it becomes clear just how invaluable his teaching work at the Łódź Film School was

The article “Dignified Distinctness”. Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s attitude toward his own territorial identity is an attempt to interpret the poem dedicated to Antoni Sobański in the light of the author’s Ukrainian identity, the lyrical subject and the work’s addressee. The analysis was based on the analyzed poem as well as other Ukrainian works by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, including his post-war works, in which the traces of the Ukrainian territorial identity (rarely found in his earlier texts) were reduced and selfcensored.

Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadkowemu tekstowi Michała Modzelewskiego pt. Zdarzenie prawdziwe, w którym przedstawiono przebieg terapii magnetycznej, prowadzonej przez Antoniego Malczewskiego na Zofii Rucińskiej, ostatniej towarzyszce życia wołyńskiego poety. Choć autor zasadniczo nie podważa hipotezy jego poprzedników co do tego, że Malczewski mógł być autorem tekstu (być może francuskojęzycznego), który był pierwowzorem dla opowiadania Modzelewskiego, to jednak wnikliwa analiza Zdarzenia prawdziwego oraz usytuowanie opowiadania w szerokim kontekście literatury magnetycznej pozwala na wysunięcie nowych hipotez odnośnie do jego genezy oraz na lepsze zrozumienie zarówno typowości, jak i wyjątkowości historii leczenia Zofii Rucińskiej. Nadal pewne pytania pozostają bez odpowiedzi, ale jedno wyłania się z całą pewnością: wbrew literackiemu toposowi biernej, uwiedzionej przez przebiegłego magnetyzera kobiety, to Zofia Rucińska okazuje się tu stroną czynną, burząc wszelkie stereotypy genderowe tamtych czasów.
The article is devoted to a mysterious text by Michał Modzelewski titled Zdarzenie prawdziwe [A Real Event], which describes the course of a magnetic therapy conducted by Antoni Malczewski on Zofia Rucińska, the last life companion of the Volhynian poet. Although the author basically does not challenge the hypothesis of his predecessors, claiming that Malczewski could be the author of the text (perhaps written in French) which was the prototype for Modzelewski’s short story, a careful analysis of Zdarzenie prawdziwe and situating the short story in the broad context of magnetic literature allows to put forward new hypotheses concerning its genesis and provide a better understanding of both the typical and unique character of the history of Zofia Rucińska’s treatment. While some questions remain unanswered, one thing emerges with certainty: despite the literary topos of the passive woman seduced by the cunning magnetizer, it is Zofia Rucińska who turns out to be the active party, destroying all gender stereotypes of that time.

Analysis of the influence of mineral water exploitation on the variability of the selected components of mineral water is presented in this study. Results of simplified chemical analysis (4 parameters, n = 390, conducted in period 2004–2011) and full chemical analysis (21 parameters, n = 8, conducted in period 2004–2010) were analyzed. There is medium correlation (R = 0,47) between the exploitation of mineral water and concentration of HCO-3 ions. Concentration of HCO-3 ions is slight decreasing in response to decrease of the mineral water exploitation. Taking into account relatively stable CO2 flow from mantle this indicates the possibility of groundwater percolation from shallow aquifers. The concentration of HCO-3 ions in shallow aquifers is significantly lower then concentration of HCO-3 ions in deep aquifers. Influence of the mineral water exploitation on the level of the water table is negligible (R = 0,06). It is likely to indicate that occurrence additional factors, e.g., high pressure of gas (CO2 ) in aquifers or the degassing process of mineral water.

While celebrating this year’s 200 anniversary of Antoni Maria Klaret’s birth, it is worthwhile to take a fresh look at the life of this zealous Spaniard who was totally devoted to service of the Church. The most important quality of his ministry was missionary work – preaching the Gospel of Jesus. It was not an easy work to do because Antoni M. Klaret, as a young priest, experienced the impact of atrocities committed during the war with Napoleon’s army in his country. After four years of his work as a priest, he went to Rome in order to follow into missionary work. Yet the dispensation of Providence was different. He comes back to his mother land and he carries into effect many ideas pertaining to his missionary zeal. He founds the order of missionaries, the centre of missionary formation and the association of missionary priests – The Apostolic Fraternity consisting in three sections: missionary section, retreat section and the section of printed word apostolate. He was also a pioneer of establishing an apostolic association which gathered priests, lay men and women. His missionary activity was accomplished through publications eg. Camino recto or Catecismo explicado, the first illustrated catechism in the world, which is said to be the book with the largest readership in Spain on the turn of the 19th century.

The article is an attempt to identify and explain the various types of references presented in Madame by Antoni Libera, as well as reflections about the model of novel proposed by this writer. The subject is, on the one hand, the theoretican’s opinions about the phenomenon of intertextuality and, on the other, the reader’s and critic’s reactions to the book which requires involved reading. A main tool used by authorness is Gérard Genette’s transtextological typology. This conception raises the doubts of many researchers due to the separation of paratexuality and metatextuality, but in the context of multilevel dialogue in Libera’s book seems to be extremely helpful and allows to recognize the network of textual references which are important to the recipient of the novel. Furthermore, in the discussion about the intertextuality or transtextuality, the role of intersemiotic references – forgotten by Genette – is underlined.
Artykuł jest próbą wskazania i wyjaśnienia różnego typu nawiązań obecnych w Madame Antoniego Libery, a także refleksją nad modelem powieści zaproponowanym przez pisarza. Punkt odniesienia stanowią z jednej strony ustalenia teoretyków zajmujących się zjawiskiem intertekstualności, z drugiej zaś reakcje czytelnicze i głosy krytyki. Jako narzędzie obrana została typologia transtekstualności Gérarda Genette’a, która budzi wątpliwości wielu badaczy ze względu na wydzielenie zjawisk paratekstualności i metatekstualności, jednak w kontekście wielopoziomowej dialogiczności dzieła Libery wydaje się niezwykle pomocna i pozwala szerzej spojrzeć na sieć nawiązań tekstowych ważnych dla odbiorcy powieści. Jednocześnie jednak w dyskusji nad zjawiskiem intertekstualności czy też transtekstualności podkreślona została waga pominiętych przez Genette’a nawiązań o charakterze intersemiotycznym, bez uwzględnienia których nie sposób w pełni odczytać powieść Libery.
