We study magnetic resonance on EuTe/PbTe superlattices. Analysis of the magnetic dipole anisotropy in the superlattices and of the EPR amplitude of isolated Eu ions in the PbTe wells shows that the diffusion at interfaces is very small. The real thickness of EuTe can be evaluated with an accuracy better than one monolayer. Since for EuTe layers thicker than 2 monolayers there is no difference in the character of the antiferromagnetic resonance observed for even and odd numbers of monolayers, we conclude that there is no static magnetization of the antiferromagnetic sublattices. Nevertheless, long range antiferromagnetic order is clearly evident.

Opis:
Magnetic resonance investigations of ultra-thin antiferromagnetic EuTe layers show a specific behaviour in the quasi-2D antiferromagnetic ordering: (i) an anisotropy of the critical broadening, (ii) a substantial increase in the Néel temperature and (iii) an anisotropic shift of the resonance frequency which diverges at the Néel point. The results show that exchange coupling is stronger in quasi-2D than in 3D antiferromagnetic samples and that correlation of spin chains aligned in the perpendicular direction occurs already well above the Néel point.

Opis:
The crystal structure of CrTe suggests two-dimensional magnetism in the plane perpendicular to the c axis. It is consistent with the temperature dependence of the g factor and EPR lines width observed. In the present paper we investigate the CrTe alloy which has been prepared by melting of the powdered Cr₂Te₃ in evacuated quartz ampoule at the temperature 1600 K. ESR spectra were recorded using X-band (9.4 GHz) spectrometer provided with gas nitrogen cryostat. The shape of the EPR line depends strongly on the temperature. In the vicinity of the room temperature the lines become very wide and weak or disappear completely. At lower temperatures the shape of the lines approaches the Dyson function. The asymmetry of lines is attributed to the strong exchange interactions as well as to the semimetal electrical conductivity. Above the room temperature the shape of spectra is characteristic for the paramagnetic phase. Results were addressed based on the model of critical spin fluctuations in two-dimensional Heisenberg magnet proposed by Eremin et al.

We report structural and magnetic properties of Ni$\text{}_{83}$Fe$\text{}_{17}$/Cu multilayer films with various buffer layer and sublayer thicknesses of copper d$\text{}_{Cu}$ and Permalloy d$\text{}_{Py}$ deposited by face-to-face sputtering. The following features prove a good quality of our films: a well-layered structure, complete antiferromagnetic coupling with a low coupling strength (2×10$\text{}^{-5}$ J/m$\text{}^{2}$ for d$\text{}_{Cu}$=1 nm and 10$\text{}^{-6}$ J/m$\text{}^{^2}$ for d$\text{}_{Cu}$=2.1 nm) and a low coercive field which make them attractive for possible applications as giant magnetoresistance sensors.

MBE grown Ge_{1-x-y}Mn_xSn_yTe layers with Mn content ranging from 10 to 30% and Sn content ranging from 2 to 5% have been characterized with X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, SQUID magnetometry, and ferromagnetic resonance. All layers (except the one with the highest Mn and Sn content) were found to be single phase rhombohedral, with the distortion axis perpendicular to the layer surface, and ferromagnetic. Ferromagnetic resonance studies have shown that co-doping with a few percent of tin makes the lattice more rigid and changes considerably the magnetocrystalline anisotropy, from purely uniaxial in GeMnTe to distorted cubic in Ge_{1-x-y}Mn_xSn_yTe at the same Mn content.

Opis:
We focused on the interaction between two ferromagnetic cobalt layers through a non-magnetic titanium layer. The magnetic properties of the structure were characterized by ferromagnetic resonance technique. The data were collected as a function of non-magnetic titanium layer thickness. Co/Ti multilayer (Ti(50 Å)/Co(45 Å)/Ti(2-40 Å)/Co(40 Å)/Ti(100 Å)) films were grown onto naturally oxidized p-type single crystal Si (100) substrate at UHV condition with magnetron sputtering system at room temperature. The thickness of Ti spacer layer ranges from 2 to 40 Å with 2 Å steps. We did not observe usual optic and acoustic modes; instead we had two broad overlapped peaks for the films ranged from 6 Å to 40 Å. One interesting result was the high anisotropic resonance field values for these films. Exchange coupling between ferromagnetic layers causes shift on resonance field values but these shifts in our samples were much larger than expected. This large anisotropic behavior is not clear at the moment. Our theoretical model was not able to determine a value for the exchange coupling parameter. One reason can be the close thickness values for Co sublayers. The other reason can be the Ti non-magnetic layer. If titanium did not grow layer by layer on cobalt, the cobalt ferromagnetic layers may behave as a single layer. As a result one cannot observe exchange interaction between ferromagnetic layers through non-magnetic spacer.

Opis:
Ferromagnetic resonance in glass-coated amorphous microwires FeSiB and CoFeSiB with the diameters varying from 133 nm to 25 μm and the glass thickness about 10 μm was measured at frequency of 9.5 GHz. Electric polarization of the wire can substantially amplify the microwave magnetic field on the sample surface. This allows us to achieve the threshold fields for nonlinear behavior with microwave power of only few mW. Above some critical value of incident power a distortion of central part of FMR curves is observed for FeSiB wires. For diameters less than 6 μm a series of sharp, nearly equidistant peaks appears with the period δH inversely proportional to the wire diameter. The phenomenon is explained by the parametric excitation of dipole-exchange modes via the first order Suhl spin-wave instability and the spin-wave confinement in very thin wires. In the CoFeSiB wires the nonlinear phenomena cannot be achieved even with the maximum power available (about 25 mW). It is probably because the threshold field is higher due to larger Gilbert damping constant and lower saturation magnetization of this alloy.

The main issue addressed in present study is exchange coupling modification between ferromagnetic layers through non-magnetic spacer layers using extra ultra-thin ferromagnetic layers (Co). In order to achieve this goal, we prepared Cr(50 Å) / Py(20 Å) / Co(5 Å) / Cr(7, 10, 13 Å) / Co(5 Å) / Py (30 Å) / Cr(50Å) / Si using magnetron sputtering at UHV conditions and characterized by Ferromagnetic Resonance (FMR) technique. As the present study results were compared to our previous study on (Py/Cr), the exchange coupling energy was increased ten times with the cobalt thin layer

Ferromagnetic resonance study of magnetic anisotropy is presented for thin layers of IV-VI diluted magnetic semiconductor (Ge,Mn)Te with Mn content of 12 and 21 at.% grown by molecular beam epitaxy on BaF₂ (111) substrates. The layers with low Mn content grow in the rhombohedral crystal structure and exhibit perpendicular magnetic anisotropy whereas the layers with Mn content higher than about 20 at.% are of cubic (rock-salt) structure and show regular easy-plane type magnetic anisotropy. The quantitative analysis of the angular dependence of the ferromagnetic resonant field is performed taking into account the magnetic energy contributions due to rhombohedral distortion (axial term along the (111) growth direction of the layer) and the crystal field terms allowed for ferromagnetic systems of rhombohedral symmetry.

The magnetic and electrical properties of the tetragonal, ThMn$\text{}_{12}$-type RMn$\text{}_{x}$T$\text{}_{12-x}$ alloys (R = Y, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm and T = Fe, Co, Ni) were studied in broad temperature and magnetic field ranges to elucidate an influence of manganese on the magnetic ordering in these materials. Magnetic properties were examined at T=1.7-300K in magnetic field up to 14T, whereas the electrical properties were examined at T=4.2-300K, on the polycrystalline samples. Majority of the samples exhibit ferro- or ferrimagnetic properties. Some samples containing larger concentration of Mn are paramagnetic in the whole temperature range. The electrical resistivity of these alloys shows metallic character.

Opis:
Spin-wave resonance is a newly emerged method for studying surface magnetic anisotropy and surface spin-wave modes in (Ga,Mn)As thin films. The existence of surface spin-wave modes in (Ga,Mn)As thin films has recently been reported in the literature; surface spin-wave modes have been observed in the in-plane configuration (with variable azimuth angle $\phi_M$ between the in-plane magnetization of the film and the surface [100] crystal axis), in the azimuth angle range between two in-plane critical angles $\phi_{c1}$ and $\phi_{c2}$. We show here that cubic surface anisotropy is an essential factor determining the existence conditions of the above-mentioned surface spin-wave modes: conditions favorable for the occurrence of surface spin-wave modes in a (Ga,Mn)As thin film in the in-plane configuration are fulfilled for those azimuth orientations of the magnetization of the sample that lie around the hard axes of cubic magnetic anisotropy. This implies that a hard cubic anisotropy axis can be regarded in (Ga,Mn)As thin films as an easy axis for surface spin pinning.
