    The subject of studies of the article is the word-formation structure of the names moti-vated by the designations of professions. The analyses are conducted only at the level of the language system. The collected material does not allow us to conduct such analyses at the text level. The completed studies showed that most often nominal derivatives of the discussed type were formed with the use of word-formative models with formatives -czyk, -ski. Relatively high frequency represent the formatives with a basic -k. This kind of distribution of the form-atives indicates the exceptionality of this category of names, its close relationship with the formation of profession-derived nouns at the appellative level. The models according to which the profession-derived names were formed indicate great synonymity. These names create even five-part series, which never occurs in other nominal types.

    Opis:
    A description of manners of the identification of streets in manuscript documents, which the 17th and 18th centuries municipal year books were, is the subject of the article. Three types of phrases were analysed: the phrases with a sentence determiner, the phrases with a determiner in the form of the prepositional phrase and the phrases with a determiner in the form of adjective. The essential aim of the research is to establish possible semantic structures which were the semantic sources in the process of deriving the nominal groups that have become the street names. The results of the research are as follow: 1. streets were identified almost exclusively (apart from two cases) by deriving the semantic locative relation; 2. most of the locative relations were derived from the proper names taken from beyond the city area as in the case of the town of Gniezno; 3. in few nominal groups the locative relations were derived from the proper names that were in use in the city area as in the case of the town of Pobiedziska.

    The study focuses on nominal groups referring to parents of peasant origin excerpted from Września-based baptismal registers (liber baptisatorum). The fundamental aim of the study is to show to what extent the folk population in the region was identified solely on the basis of a name and to what extent was the identification based on a combination of the name and the surname. It is also important to indicate whether the identification process included other elements of the noun phrase based on anthroponimic stems. Further on, it is also important to determine what type of additional and auxiliary identifying determinators are to be found with the appearing anthroponymic element. The observations done so far demonstrate that the two-element paradigm for personal identification (already common in nominal groups with reference to members of nobility and to burghers) of people that belonged to the peasantry, is used in the texts under scrutiny only to a very low degree. As the numerical data suggests, more than 80% of parents are identified by the second name only. Additional identifying elements do occur, however, in groups based on names (without the surname element). The study demonstrates that the localyzing determinator is dominant. Determinators indicating occupation, type of craft made and the current occupation of the person are also frequent. The groups under consideration also include determinators that indicate economic status of the person, though they are much rarer. The situation changes in groups with an additional surname determinator. Here, there are only two types of the determinator to be found: localizing determinator and one that indicates the economic status of a given person.

    Przedmiotem analiz są sposoby przekładu fraz תֵּבַת עֲצֵי־גֹפֶר oraz arca de lignis levigatis w czeskich i polskich tekstach biblijnych z okresu od XIV do XVI wieku. Celem prowadzonych badań jest pokazanie na ile kształt leksykalny odpowiedników tych fraz we wspomnianych tłumaczeniach miał związek z wyborem podstawy tłumaczenia, z panującą w danym kręgu tradycją przekładową oraz z przyjmowanymi interpretacjami i objaśnieniami określonego miejsca w Biblii. Prowadzone w artykule analizy pokazują, że autorzy wszystkich czeskich przekładów biblijnych unikają dosłownego tłumaczenia rzeczownika tebh i jego łacińskiego odpowiednika arca. Tak translatorzy katoliccy, jak i protestanccy regularnie oddają go przez rzeczownik koráb. Taki sposób przekładu przyjmują też, wzorując się na Czechach, katolickie biblie polskie. Stan obserwowany w badanych tekstach dowodzi, że decyzje translatorskie były motywowane nie znaczeniem rzeczownika z podstawy hebrajskiej czy łacińskiej, ale związane były z możliwymi ujęciami arki Noego w pismach teologicznych czy nawet utrwalonych w ogólnie pojętej kulturze chrześcijańskiej. Inne rozwiązania na gruncie polskim przyjmują protestanckie tłumaczenia z języków oryginału, w których człon konstytutywny frazy stanowią rzeczowniki archa i skrzynia, bezpośrednio nawiązujące do znaczenia rzeczownika z podstawy tłumaczenia.
    The subject of the analysis are the methods of translating phrases and arca de lignis levigatis in Czech and Polish biblical texts from the period from the 14th to the 16th century. The aim of the research is to show to what extent the lexical shape of the equivalents of these phrases in the mentioned translations was related to the choice of the translation basis, the translation tradition prevailing in a given circle, as well as the interpretations and explanations adopted for a specific place in the Bible. The analyzes conducted in the article show that the authors of all Czech Bible translations avoid literal translations of the noun tebh and its Latin equivalent arca. Both Catholic and Protestant translators regularly render it through a noun koráb. This way of translation is also adopted by Catholic Polish Bibles, modeled on the Czechs. The state observed in the studied texts proves that the translating decisions were motivated not by the meaning of a noun from the Hebrew or Latin basis, but were related to possible depictions of Noah's ark in theological writings or even perpetuated in generally understood Christian culture. Other solutions on the basis of Polish accept Protestant translations from the original languages, in which the constitutive element of the phrase make nouns archa and a chest, directly referring to the meaning of the noun from the translation basis.

    In the article the way of translating the Old Testament realities connected with sacrifices in Mikołaj Rej’s Psałterz Dawidowy is presented. In order to check originality of the poet’s translational solutions they are compared with, on the one hand, the basis of the translation, that is Psalmorum omnium iuxta hebraica veritatem paraphrastica interpretatio by Johan van der Campen, and on the other, with an earlier Polish translation (from Vulgate), Żołtarz, by W. Wróbel. The analyses that have been made have shown that Rej, translating the parts of Psalms in which Old Testament sacrifices are referred to, is distant both from the letter and the spirit of the original text. Adjusting his translation to the needs of the contemporary reader he consequently eliminates from his paraphrase all Old Testament sacrifice realities, as incompatible with the spirit of the Christian religion. In their place he introduces first of all spiritual sacrifices that were highly valued in the 16th century, or, he speaks about the very act of sacrifice without launching forth in details. In the text he refers twice to the sacrifice rite that was common in his times. Fragments connected with sacrifices are also modernized by W. Wróbel; however, he does it not like Rej, that is by a definite wording of the text of the Psalms, but by placing a commentary explaining the meaning of selected phrases next to particular verses.

    The article studies name derivatives referring to rural population recorded in the eighteenth-century baptismal books of Września. The core of the study are 164 surnames formed by the addition of the suffixes -ski, -ewicz, -owicz as well as the basic -k-. The studies completed demonstrate that in the process of creation of names, over the entire 18th century, the most dominating were the word formation models with suffixes including the basic -k-. Within this category the suffix -ak was the most active element. Of marginal importance (only in the creation of formal derivatives) was the suffix -ski and the derived suffixes. Only 20 formations were created with their use during the whole century. On the basis of the analysis of the documents, it can be assumed that in the rural area near Września there were no word-formative models with the formatives -ewicz and -owicz. The attested surnames (7), recorded between 1753 and 1760, must have been brought from other areas.

    The paper is trying to answer the question which word-formative types, of the ones capable of being isolated by structural analysis of derivative, transformed into word-formation models of surnames. The conducted analyses revealed that word-formation models of surnames were created only from the types that became obsolete. The up-to-date types, in turn, did not form a separate model. The created models were used for structural modification of the already existing surnames, the formation of new ones and Polonization of foreign surnames.

    The article is an attempt to demonstrate that the theonym Perun/Piorun was used (and in some instances is still used) in the Polish language. The completed analyses have shown that the name of the Slavic god of thunder functions solely in a scholarly discourse. He appears in it as Piorun, in the 16th century, principally in historical texts. This phonetical form was preserved until the 19th century, changing its denotations. In the texts of 16th-century historians, the theonym Piorun denoted a Slavic god (including the god from the pantheon of prince Vladimir the Great), as well as Lithuanian Perkunas. In later studies, it begins to denote only the supreme Slavic god. This interpretation has been presented, for example, by S. B. Linde. The data from Orgelbrand’s encyclopaedia show that at the close of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, lexically, there was a clear differentiation between Polish Piorun, Rus Perun and the Lithuanian god named Perkunas. Most likely, it was in the scholarly literature of the 20th century that the theonym Piorun was replaced by Perun, which denotes the god of thunder of all Slavs as well as the god from the pantheon of Vladimir. In the colloquial Polish language the theonym Perun is evidenced only indirectly: 1. in the name of thunder (Pol. piorun), 2. in the names of elongated stones found after a storm – belemnites or fulgurites (piorunowy kamień [thunderstone], piorunowa strzała [thunder arrow], piorunek [small thunder]), 3. in the folklore name ziele piorunowe [thunder herb] ‘garden asparagus'.

    Przedmiotem badań w niniejszym artykule są nazwy świąt obchodzonych ku czci Matki Bożej, zawarte w katolickim almanachu „Kalendarz św. św. Cyryla i Metodego”, który ukazywał się w Bułgarii w latach 1917-1952. Kalendarz przeznaczony był zarówno dla katolików obrządku zachodniego, jak i wschodniego (unitów). Autorzy starają się dociec w jakim stopniu na przyjęte nazewnictwo wpłynęła tradycja łacińska, a w jakim odwzorowują one model środowiska prawosławnego, w którego otoczeniu katolicy stanowili zdecydowaną mniejszość. Porównując nazwy świąt maryjnych z badanymi wcześniej świętami chrystologicznymi dowodzą, że heortonimia rytu zachodniego wykazuje dużą zależność od nazewnictwa utrwalonego już w bułgarskiej tradycji prawosławnej, zaś elementem wyróżniającym frazy nazywające poszczególne święta jest sposób w jaki określa się Marię.
    The subject of this article are the names of holidays celebrated in honor of Holy Mary, included in the Catholic almanac "Calendar of St. St. Cyril and Methodius ", which appeared in Bulgaria in the period 1917-1952. Calendar was intended for both Western and Eastern (Uniate) Catholics. The authors try to find out to what extent the adopted naming influenced the Latin tradition, and to what extent they reflect the environment of the Orthodox model, in which Catholics were a small minority. Comparing the proper names of the Marian holidays with previous Christological holidays prove that the heortonyms of the Western rite shows a great dependence on the nomenclature already established in the Bulgarian Orthodox tradition, and the distinguishing element of the phrases calling the individual holidays is the way Holy Mary is described.
