    Synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) has gained considerable attention in regenerative medicine over recent decades. It is widely used as a bone filler and constituent of various biomaterials. HA possesses high biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, bioactivity, and bioresorbability. There are many different synthesis methods for HA described in the available literature. It is worth noticing that even slight changes in pH, reaction conditions or chemical composition during synthesis, can influence biological, physicochemical, and mechanical properties of resultant HA. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of sintering temperature of hydroxyapatite on biological and physicochemical properties of biomaterial made of alginate and hydroxyapatite granules. Alginate/HA material was produced using HA sintered at temperature of 800oC and HA sintered at temperature of 1150oC. Microstructure of the fabricated biomaterials was visualized by SEM. Osteoblast growth on the composites was assessed using human foetal osteoblast cell line. Moreover, ion reactivity, plasma/serum protein adsorption ability as well as water/NaCl uptake capability of the biomaterials were compared. Obtained results demonstrated that although both biomaterials had the same chemical composition, composite comprising hydroxyapatite sintered at temperature of 1150oC had smoother surface, revealed lower ion reactivity, was more favourable to osteoblast growth, and adsorbed lower amount of fibrinogen (which is known to promote biomaterial-induced inflammatory response), compared to the material made of hydroxyapatite sintered at temperature of 800oC. Thus, the type of bioceramics used for the production of biomaterials should be tailored to their specific applications – bone fillers for primarily in vivo implantation or in vitro cell-seeded scaffolds.

    Poland is a country where organic food enjoys a growing interest among consumers who care about a healthy lifestyle and pay attention to the quality of the consumed products. The increase in environmental awareness leads to a consumer’s search for the food free of artificial chemical additives and impurities, and, therefore, the food beneficial for health. The aim of the study was to analyse the range of organic products from Polish and foreign producers in all specialised stores offering organic food in Piaseczno and its vicinity. The results show that in three-quarters of the examined shops the share of imported products surpassed this one of domestic products on the shelves. All the organic products were of European origin. The store assortment was not sufficiently diversified, with cereal products prevailing, while the products with a short shelf life and convenience food were lacking. The priority should be an emphasis on the growth of consumer awareness in order to make an conscious choice of products and to acquire the ability to distinguish organic products from others, as well as on the promotion of domestic products.
    Polska jest krajem, w którym żywność ekologiczna cieszy się rosnącym zainteresowaniem ze strony konsumentów dbających o zdrowy styl życia oraz zwracających uwagę na jakość spożywanych produktów. Celem pracy była analiza asortymentu produktów ekologicznych producentów polskich i zagranicznych we wszystkich sklepach specjalistycznych oferujących żywność ekologiczną Piaseczna i okolic. Wyniki wskazują, że analizowane sklepy oferują różny asortyment - Amarantus i Eko-Spiżarnia niewielki (172-211 produktów), natomiast Kombu Delikatesy i Organic Farma Zdrowia - dużo większy (585-605 produktów). We wszystkich sklepach produkty zbożowe reprezentowały największy asortyment, kolejno owoce, warzywa i ich przetwory, soki i napoje, kawa, herbata i kakao. Udział importowanych produktów przewyższał udział produktów krajowych w ¾ badanych sklepów. Kraje, z których import produktów ekologicznych jest największy, to Niemcy i Włochy. Główny wniosek z badań jest taki, że asortyment specjalistycznych sklepów ekologicznych wymaga rozszerzenia, najbardziej pożądane brakujące towary to produkty dla dzieci i żywność wygodna, ponadto mięso i nabiał. Jest ważne, aby zwiększyć udział krajowych produktów w sklepach z żywnością ekologiczną. Jeden ze sposobów polega na informowaniu konsumentów o wysokiej wartości odżywczej ekologicznych produktów, szczególnie krajowego pochodzenia.

    The effect of cationic, anionic and nonionic surface active additives, organic compounds and polymers on the electrodeposition of Zn-Mo coatings on steel substrate and detailed characterization in chosen optimal conditions was studied. The influence of polyethylene glycol (PEG) various concentration, sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), triton X-100, d-sorbitol, cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), thiourea and disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) on the electrodeposition process was examined. The composition of deposits was defined by wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (WDXRF). Results has shown that the current efficiency of the electrodeposition of Zn-Mo coatings is 71.4%, 70.7%, 66.7% for 1.5 g/dm3 PEG 20000, 0.1 g/dm3 Triton X-100 and 0.75 M D-sorbitol respectively. The surface topography and roughness of selected coatings on steel was investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The attendance of D-sorbitol of 0.75 M in the solution cause clear reduction of grain size and the value of roughness parameter (Ra) in relation to SDS, PEG, Triton X-100 and the sample prepared without the additives. The morphology of electrodeposited layers was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The addition of selected additives to the electrolytic bath results in the formation of smoother, brighter and more compact Zn-Mo coatings in comparison to layers obtained from similar electrolytes but without the addition of surfactants. The optimal concentration of the most effective additives such as PEG 20000, Triton X-100 and D-sorbitol is 1.5 g/dm3, 0.1 g/dm3, 0.75 M respectively.

    The aim of this paper was to analyze the Polish stakeholders from the organic sector in terms of their expectations towards the potential employees and to evaluate what kinds of the professional knowledge and skills are expected by the employers. A survey with stakeholders from the organic food chain was carried out in 2015 in Poland. The investigation has been conducted within a European project “Innovative Education towards the Needs of the Organic Sector” (http://eposproject.net/). A questionnaire with closed-ended questions was created in order to cover a range of different stakeholders. The survey consists of 72 records. Five groups of thematic points were chosen for the publication: (A) Type of graduate for optional employment, (B) Profile of disciplines of graduates, (C) Strategies for recruitment of graduates, (D) Requirements of the job, (E) Innovations in teaching methods. The results indicate that Polish enterprises within organic sector are interested in employing the graduates in organic food and farming studies. There is a need in Poland to create well-constructed university study programs covering organic food and farming. It is necessary to introduce innovative educational methods into the above programs in order to provide the alumni possibilities to acquire skills desired by the employers. Cooperation with enterprises within organic sector is a necessary element of the new created programs as the method to increase practical skills of the graduates and their possibilities to get an interesting job after graduation.
    Celem tej pracy była analiza polskich przedsiębiorców z sektora ekologicznego pod względem ich oczekiwań wobec potencjalnych pracowników i ocena, jakie rodzaje profesjonalnej wiedzy i umiejętności są oczekiwane przez pracodawców. Ankieta z polskimi przedsiębiorcami z sektora ekologicznego została przeprowadzona w roku 2015 w ramach projektu Europejskiego “Innovative Education towards the Needs of the Organic Sector” (http://epos-project.net/). Kwestionariusz z pytaniami zamkniętymi stworzony został w celu zbadania różnych przedsiębiorców. Przebadano 72 osoby. Pięć grup tematycznych zostało wybranych do publikacji: (A) typ absolwenta do ewentualnego zatrudnienia, (B) profil absolwentów, (C) strategia rekrutacji absolwentów, (D) wymogi pracy, (E) innowacje metod nauczania. Wyniki wskazują, że polscy przedsiębiorcy z sektora ekologicznego są zainteresowani zatrudnianiem absolwentów studiów o kierunku ekologiczna żywność i rolnictwo. Istnieje w Polsce potrzeba stworzenia dobrze skonstruowanych programów studiów uniwersyteckich dotyczących ekologicznej żywności i rolnictwa. Zachodzi konieczność wprowadzenia do powyższych programów innowacyjnych metod nauczania w celu zapewnienia możliwości osiągania przez absolwentów umiejętności pożądanych przez pracodawców. Współpraca z przedsiębiorstwami sektora ekologicznego jest niezbędnym elementem nowych programów studiów jako metoda zwiększenia umiejętności praktycznych absolwentów i ich możliwości uzyskania ciekawej pracy po studiach.

    Consumers increasingly appreciate high quality and nutritional value of organic products. Therefore distribution network is growing, organic food is offered by all sorts of shopping centers and online stores. The aim of the study was to analyze and evaluate the range of organic food of Polish and foreign origin available in select retail locations in Warsaw, and online stores. Results show that the range of products offered by Internet shops is much richer than in retail stores. In both types of shops the assortment is not sufficiently varied. The stores offer a variety of sweets and snacks, teas, soft drinks and juices and products from the group such as groats, rice, sesame seeds and grains. The products from groups such as meat, dairy products, mushrooms, wine, desserts, ice cream, additions to the desserts are lacking. There is also evident lack of fresh fruits and vegetables. Priority should be given to increase the availability of organic products in the areas of distribution, as well as to increase the range of products offered by Polish producers. It is also necessary to augment the consumer awareness of high quality and nutritional value of organic products.
    Konsumenci coraz bardziej doceniają walory żywieniowe i wysoką jakość produktów ekologicznych. Rozrasta się zatem sieć dystrybucji, żywność ekologiczną oferują różnego rodzaju placówki handlowe i sklepy internetowe. Celem pracy była analiza i ocena asortymentu żywności ekologicznej pochodzenia polskiego i zagranicznego dostępnego w wybranych placówkach handlowych na terenie Warszawy oraz sklepach internetowych. Wyniki pokazują, że asortyment oferowany przez sklepy internetowy jest o wiele bogatszy niż w sklepach stacjonarnych. W obu typach sklepów asortyment nie jest wystarczająco urozmaicony. Oferuje się wiele słodyczy i przekąsek, herbat, napojów i soków oraz produktów z grupy kasz, kaszek, ryżów, sezamu i ziaren. Brakuje natomiast produktów z takich grup ekologicznych w miejscach dystrybucji, zwiększanie wachlarza oferowanych produktów przez producentów polskich jak mięso i wędliny, nabiał, grzyby, wino oraz desery, lody, dodatki do deserów. Brak także oferty świeżych warzyw i owoców. Priorytetem powinno być zwiększanie dostępności produktów producentów oraz przede wszystkim ciągłe zwiększanie świadomości konsumenckiej na temat wysokiej jakości oraz walorów żywieniowych produktów ekologicznych.

    The article presents the results of studies on the efficacy of water desalination (i.e. Elimination of NaCl ions from the solution) using graphene-polyamide composite membranes. The membranę used for filtration consists of a monolayer of polycrystalline graphene on a porous polyamide carrier support (nylon 66). The degree of desalination for an aqueous NaCl solution percolated through the membrane was 18%. In the future this type of membrane may replace the currently used reverse osmosis membranes.
