Opis:
The purpose of the text is to identify and categorise the key success factors of selected companies during the global COVID-19 pandemic. In the theoretical part, the conditions for the functioning of enterprises during the COVID-19 pandemic were identified, and then success factors were diagnosed as a category that explained the results of enterprises during this period. The aim of the work was achieved through empirical research carried out on a sample of 22 companies representing various sectors, both global and local. The research was conducted using the triangulation of research methods. The main method used in the research procedure was a multiple case study. The results showed that the identified factors determining the success of the surveyed companies during a pandemic form seven categories: strategy, business model, resources, flexibility, products/services, customer relations, and the external environment.

Opis:
The article presents the status of quality in various management concepts (in outsourcing, supply chain management, TQM). It has been assumed that quality status defines the function and/or the significance of quality in the ORGANIZATION management concept. The carried out studies have demonstrated that the term of quality is most frequently defined in the TQM concept (even though also in this case there are definition disputes). In the remaining concepts of pro-quality management authors refer most often to definitions given by the TQM precursors. The authors describe the role of quality (various approaches) and the fundamental determinants of achieving quality in selected management concepts.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – The main objectives of this article are to identify the major risks with a global dimension and to attempt to specify the potential consequences of their occurrence for organizational management. Design/methodology/approach – The article is based on an analysis of the literature on the subject and an analysis of the content of The Global Risk Reports published in the years 2013-2017, prepared within the scope of the World Economic Forum, and presenting the results of work performed by international experts. Findings – The major results of the research are the following: 1) becoming aware of how global risks are understood, 2) identifying the most significant present risks of a global character, as well as tendencies in changes in their importance, and 3) determining general possibilities of the identified risks’ exerting influence on organizational management processes. Research implications/limitations – The research results are based on a selected group of reports illustrating the result of the work of experts performed within the scope of the World Economic Forum. Thus, there is a possibility of an alternative approach to global risks, e.g., in reports drawn up for the purposes of the insurance sector. However, the authors decided that the aforementioned reports were the most reliable and representative from the perspective of this article’s objectives. Originality/value/contribution – The article shows global risks as a determinant of management processes and includes reflection about their significance.

Opis:
Laser Tracking systems are commonly used in all branches of industry, which requires accurate large-scale measurements for instance aviation, space and shipbuilding industries. Laser Trackers belong to the group of non-Cartesian Coordinate Measuring Systems. Determination of the measured point coordinates involves the measurements of distance using laser beam and two angles recorded by horizontal and vertical encoders. Additionally, the environmental conditions are monitored and used for compensation of measured distance. The coordinates of single measured point are estimated using the results obtained from a series of samples taken in a short time period. The average value obtained from a sample is given as a result; additionally, the dispersion parameters are calculated which can be used to evaluate the probing process. This paper presents the research procedure which allows assessing the influence of chosen dispersion parameter related to the sample averaging on accuracy of the measurements performed with laser tracking devices. The procedure involves standard elements measurements during which the points with similar level of RMS parameter are used for the calculation of the measurement result. Such approach allows simulating the increasing dispersion of points taken into account during sample probing. The results presented in the article can be helpful to the operators of laser tracking systems to assess the influence of the probing process on the measurement accuracy.

Opis:
Liver transplantation is a well-established treatment of patients with end-stage liver disease and selected liver tumors. Remarkable progress has been made over the last years concerning nearly all of its aspects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the evolution of long-term outcomes after liver transplantations performed in the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery (Medical University of Warsaw). Material and methods. Data of 1500 liver transplantations performed between 1989 and 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. Transplantations were divided into 3 groups: group 1 including first 500 operations, group 2 including subsequent 500, and group 3 comprising the most recent 500. Five year overall and graft survival were set as outcome measures. Results. Increased number of transplantations performed at the site was associated with increased age of the recipients (p<0.001) and donors (p<0.001), increased rate of male recipients (p<0.001), and increased rate of piggyback operations (p<0.001), and decreased MELD (p<0.001), as well as decreased blood (p=0.006) and plasma (p<0.001) transfusions. Overall survival was 71.6% at 5 years in group 1, 74.5% at 5 years in group 2, and 85% at 2.9 years in group 3 (p=0.008). Improvement of overall survival was particularly observed for primary transplantations (p=0.004). Increased graft survival rates did not reach the level of significance (p=0.136). Conclusions. Long-term outcomes after liver transplantations performed in the Department of General, Transplant and Liver Surgery are comparable to those achieved in the largest transplant centers worldwide and are continuously improving despite increasing recipient age and wider utilization of organs procured from older donors.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to analyze indications and results of the first one thousand liver transplantations at Chair and Clinic of General, Transplantation and Liver Surgery, Medical University of Warsaw.Material and methods. Data from 1000 transplantations (944 patients) performed at Chair and Clinic of General, Transplantation and Liver Surgery between 1994 and 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. These included 943 first transplantations and 55 retransplantations and 2 re-retransplantations. Frequency of particular indications for first transplantation and retransplantations was established. Perioperative mortality was defined as death within 30 days after the transplantation. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to estimate 5-year patient and graft survival.Results. The most common indications for first transplantation included: liver failure caused by hepatitis C infection (27.8%) and hepatitis B infection (18%) and alcoholic liver disease (17.7%). Early (< 6 months) and late (> 6 months) retransplantations were dominated by hepatic artery thrombosis (54.3%) and recurrence of the underlying disease (45%). Perioperative mortality rate was 8.9% for first transplantations and 34.5% for retransplantations. Five-year patient and graft survival rate was 74.3% and 71%, respectively, after first transplantations and 54.7% and 52.9%, respectively, after retransplantations.Conclusions. Development of liver transplantation program provided more than 1000 transplantations and excellent long-term results. Liver failure caused by hepatitis C and B infections remains the most common cause of liver transplantation and structure of other indications is consistent with European data.
