Opis:
The paper presents the probabilistic model of fibrillation currents containing two components with different frequencies. An analysis was conducted of the threat of ventricular fibrillation which occurs in consequence of the electric shock with the highest permissible contact shocking voltage of the network frequency (50 Hz), taking into account the threat caused by the second component of the voltage which has the frequency higher than the network frequency. The sample results of calculations apply to the probability of the ventricular fibrillation in case of a shock caused by the highest permissible contact shocking voltage, for the defined time of shock duration, without and with the participation of an additional voltage component with higher frequency. The formula has been presented for the calculation of the highest permissible contact shock voltages with taking into account the voltage component of the frequency higher than the network frequency. The results of calculations indicate that a considerable reduction of the highest permissible contact shock voltage is necessary in order to compensate for a growth of the ventricular fibrillation threat caused by the presence of an additional component with the frequency other the network frequency. This applies in particular to the long shock duration times and low frequencies (up to 500 Hz) of an additional component of the shocking voltage.

Opis:
In this paper, we present a robust decentralized method for jointly performing channel estimation and closed loop power control for the reverse link of CDMA networks. Our method, based on linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control systems theory and Kalman filtering, does not require any training symbols for channel or signal to interference ratio (SIR) estimation. The main interest of this new scheme is that it improves the performance of current SIR based power control techniques while avoiding the problem of power escalation, which is often observed in current systems.

Opis:
Ongoing climate change will likely expose trees and forests to new stresses and disturbances during this century. Trees naturally adapt to changes in climate, but their natural adaptive ability may be compromised by the rapid changes projected for this century. In the broad sense, adaptation to climate change also includes the purposeful adaptation of human systems, which includes forestry. In this article, we briefly review the expected impacts of projected climate change on trees and forest ecosystems in Poland. We further provide a framework for designing adaptive strategies to sustain or enhance forest growth, health, and ecosystem services in new climates. Within this framework, we distinguish two related objectives: (1) adaptation of decision−making process in forest management and (2) adaptation of forest ecosystems. Each of these objectives may be achieved through strategies and options whose applicability is discussed in relation to major forest functions – ecological and societal, commercial, and multiple−use. Knowledge gaps and research needs are also identified. We conclude that the recent emphasis on sustainable multifunctional forestry and the current ownership structure in Poland will facilitate adaptation of Polish forests to future climates. However, much remains to be learned about the impacts of climate change, especially at the ecosystem level. Cooperation between researchers and forest managers is critical for developing better management strategies for adapting forests to climate change.

Opis:
The recently demonstrated ‘modal crossover network’ method for flat panel loudspeaker tuning employs an array of force drivers to selectively excite one or more panel bending modes from a spectrum of panel bending modes. A regularly spaced grid of drivers is a logical configuration for a two-dimensional driver array, and although this can be effective for exciting multiple panel modes it will not necessarily exhibit strong coupling to all of the modes within a given band of frequencies. In this paper a method is described to find optimal force driver array layouts to enable control of all the panel bending modes within a given frequency band. The optimization is carried out both for dynamic force actuators, treated as point forces, and for piezoelectric patch actuators. The optimized array layouts achieve similar maximum mode coupling efficiencies in comparison with regularly spaced driver arrays; however, in the optimized arrays all of the modes within a specified frequency band may be independently addressed, which is important for achieving a desired loudspeaker frequency response. Experiments on flat panel loudspeakers with optimized force actuator array layouts show that each of the panel modes within a selected frequency band may be addressed independently and that the inter-modal crosstalk is typically −30 dB or less with non-ideal drivers.
