- Opis:
- Humanitarianism accepts and keeps in high regard the values of human dignity, brotherhood, equality and human rights. It is worth remembering that the Republic of Poland, signing international agreements on human rights, has obliged itself to spread the standards of international humanitarian law, and especially, to incorporate them into its military training programs and to encourage civilians, including students, to become acquainted with them so that they are known to the military forces as well as the general public. In Poland, the main promoter of international humanitarian law is the Polish Red Cross. It was founded in 1919 and it is the oldest Polish humanitarian organization operating within and under the aegis of The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies network. Its main aims are to popularize humanitarian ideas and rules, health education and honorary blood donation, to train and organize sanitary teams, to look for war victims, to take part in international aid programs for war and natural disaster victims and to develop international humanitarian law. Some international agreements clearly require that international humanitarian law should be complied with. They include, among others, the four Geneva Convenntions for the Protection of War Victims of 1919. The main proof of fulfillment of international obligations is the degree of awareness of these standards among persons and authorities responsible for fulfilling them.
