    Artykuł poświęcony jest trzem postaciom pojęciowym (Giles Deleuze, Félix Guattari) współczesnego humanisty – amatora, dyletanta i błazna – z których dwie pierwsze wyprowadzone są z noszących czytelne ślady autobiograficzności esejów takich autorów, jak Krzysztof Czyżewski, Marcin Król czy Leopold Tyrmand, a następnie usytuowane zostają w kontekście toczącego się obecnie sporu o stan i pożądaną postać humanistyki. Przy próbie włączenia do tego sporu również figury błazna artykuł sygnalizuje trzy momenty złożonej dialektyki współczesnego błazeństwa intelektualnego: jego specyficzną strategię medialną, dwuznaczną relację z władzą, a w końcu szczególny sposób myślenia i zaangażowania związanego z dekonstrukcją Jacques’a Derridy (Michał Paweł Markowski, Tadeusz Sławek).
    The article presents three „conceptual personae” (Giles Deleuze, Félix Guattari) of the contemporary humanist: dilettante, amateur and jester. The first two are discussed on the basis of texts of such Polish essayists as Krzysztof Czyżewski, Marcin Król and Leopold Tyrmand, who used to emphasize not only the cultural history of these figures but also their own autobiographical experiences. In order to develop our understanding of the contemporary humanistic modus operandi, the author juxtaposes the dilettante and amateur personae with the jester figure. The article underlines three dimensions of such an „intellectual clowning dialectic”: 1) the necessity of adopting a new peculiar media strategy, 2) the ambiguous relationship with an authority, 3) the exceptional „foolish” way of thinking related to deconstruction and crucial to Jacques Derrida’s L’Universite’ sans condition (discussed by such Polish authors as Michał Paweł Markowski, Tadeusz Sławek).

    One of Bergman’s favourite figures was the jester or the clown. When appearing on stage, they gather the whole attention of both audience and other characters. In theatre productions Bergman used three strategies to express his fondness for this figure – he either emphasized jesters already existing in the text of the drama, provided other characters with clownish features (both visual and mental), or he even created clown-like figures and added them to the original drama. This was done not only to stress comic aspects, but mainly to expose the psychological complexity of the personalities of these figures. In my article, I analyse all three levels of this phenomenon in productions of Shakespeare, Ibsen and Gombrowicz, trying to find the source of inspiration behind them, as well as a common thread between them.

    The article presents traditional and modern approaches to Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People in the Polish theatre. Banned in Poland for almost a decade (the country was a part of three different states until 1918), first staged in 1891, continuously censored, the play became a part of the national debate on freedom and rebellion, for a long time staged as a manifesto, even though Ibsen’s popularity lessened. The political approach was re-invented in the communist 1970s and 1980. After a thirty years’ gap, Ibsen’s masterpiece premiered recently in Cracow, directed by a famous and controversial artist of the younger generation.

    Аrtykuł jest poświęcony złożonej trajektorii autorskiej Anatola Sysa (1959-2005), którego niezwyczajny los intryguje czytelnika nie mniej niż jego utwory poetyckie i wymusza na badaczach poszukiwanie wciąż nowych sposobów interpretacji jego artystycznych i życiowych metamorfoz. Ze wspomnień przyjaciół, artykułów naukowych i utworów artystycznych wyłania się sprzeczny wizerunek pisarza: głos pokolenia, przeciwnik ideologii komunistycznej, prorok odrodzenia narodowego, Geniusz, poeta obrzydliwy, błazen, alkoholik, wyrodek, cham. Owa różnorodność i odmienność interpretacji w ocenie osobowości Anatola Sysa oraz miejsca, które jego twórczość zajmuje w historii literatury białoruskiej, uzasadniona jest zdaniem autora artykułu trzema przyczynami: 1) niezwykłą i sprzeczną naturą poety; 2) specyfiką krótkiego okresu, w którym żył Anatol Sys, obejmującego trzy epoki: radziecką (do 1984 roku), epokę reform i odrodzenia narodowego (1985-1992) і epokę Alaksandra Łukaszenki (od 1994 roku); 3) złożoną trajektorią życiowej i twórczej drogi poety, w której można wyróżnić trzy okresy: wczesny, patriotyczny i przeklęty (okres przynależności do cyganerii artystycznej). Jeszcze za życia Anatola Sysa jego osoba zaczęła obrastać w mity i legendy, a po śmierci poety jego najlepsze utwory weszły do kanonu literatury narodowej XX wieku.
    The article is dedicated to a complicated trajectory of the outstanding Belarusian poet Anatol Sys (1959-2005), whose unusual fate intrigues readers no less than his poetry, and makes researchers search for new explanations of metamorphoses in his life and creative work. From the memoirs of contemporaries, academic articles and works of art an extremely controversial image of the writer arises: a leader of the generation, a fighter with Communist ideology, a prophet of the national revival, a Genius; a disgusting poet, a jester, an alcoholic, a freak, a boor. There have been various assessments of Sys’s personality and the place of his work in the history of the Belarusian literature which “in the opinion of the author, originate for the following three reasons: 1) the extraordinary and contradictory nature of the poet; 2) the nature of the interval the time in which Sys lived and which falls into three epochs: stagnant Soviet (before 1984), transition-renaissance (1985-1992), and Lukashenko’s (since 1994); 3) a complex trajectory of the poet’s life and creative path which can be divided into three stages: initial, revival and Bohemian (“infernal”). Even during his life, the personality of Anatol Sys began to acquire myths and legends, and after his death, his best works entered the canon of the national literature of the 20th century.

    This paper provides an overview of the importance of dwarf figures/jesters in Ancient Indian history and society. There are numerous dwarf-like figures depicted in ancient Indian temples. These little figurines would have not only filled the area and add decorative value but also, they have a small but significant place in iconography. A dwarf-like figure, the Vidushaka, who was a brahmin with a tuft on his head and a staff in his hand, was found on the walls of Ajanta and in the Natyashastra text. His occupation is to light the stressful environment by making the court laughing. It goes without saying how valuable the Vidushaka is as a kind of entertainment in ancient India. The objective of this research is to look at how the Vidushaka (jester) had been contributing to the ‘entertainment industry’ of ancient India and how they have been portrayed through out the history (from ancient to medieval times). This would also allow us to discover that jesters were not only adept at entertaining others with amusing jokes, but also able to express himself on the oddities of human life.
