The period between the 1905 Revolution and the outbreak of World War I was the time of deepening controversies between the interests of the Great Powers, the formation of the political and military alliances, and the preparations for a military conflict. In the Kingdom of Poland, the territory of which – as many expected – was to become one of the main battlegrounds in the upcoming war, the growing tension in the international relations was clearly felt. This tension influenced the internal situation, in which such events as the elections to the State Duma (the Russian Parliament), the issue of self-government or the emergence of the new Chełm gubernya (Province) electrified the population. The presence of a fairly large number of Jews, and the Jewish issue raised by some political forces were the other factors shaping up the social and political relations in the Kingdom; the factors, which - a few years before the war - gained the unprecedented momentum. Although the worsening of the Polish-Jewish relations could have been observed earlier, the elections to the State Duma in 1912, in which – due to the Jewish votes – the candidate of the National Democracy (the so-called endeks), Roman Dmowski lost his battle for a seat in the Parliament, became a turning point in the history of the Polish Jews.

Opis:
The Russian State Duma after 12 years of office in Russian Empire at the beginning of the twentieth century, permanently settled in the Russian Federation after 1993. Surveys show that many Russians consider the Duma to be a non-autonomous institution, totally dependent on the executive and fulfills all of its wishes. It does not enjoy as much support or trust from the Russians as the President, the government or even the Federation Council. It also plays a much smaller role in relation to the organs referred to. The constitutional position of the Duma affects its political role and in the eyes of the Russians limited influence on the activities of the state. This role is definitely smaller than the role of the media or even the oligarchs.

Niniejszy artykuł omawia reformy prawa wyborczego oraz prawa o partiach politycznych przeprowadzone w Rosji podczas pierwszych dwóch kadencji Władimira Putina (2000–2008). Reformy te miały kluczowe znaczenie dla ukształtowania obecnego systemu politycznego w Rosji, który jest oparty na państwowej reglamentacji działalności partii politycznych oraz instytucjonalizacji życia społecznego. Charakterystycznymi cechami tego systemu są dominacja partii władzy w systemie partyjnym i marginalizacja opozycji. Prowadzi to do ograniczenia mechanizmów społecznej kontroli władzy i utraty znaczenia przez parlament na rzecz władzy wykonawczej, a w szczególności prezydenta. Spełnianie roli politycznego zaplecza dla działań Kremla stało się głównym czynnikiem przesądzającym o dopuszczeniu partii do czynnego udziału w życiu politycznym kraju. Jedną z konsekwencji tego stanu rzeczy jest polityczna marginalizacja Dumy Państwowej, która zamiast być miejscem ścierania się odmiennych interesów społecznych, stała się „maszynką” do głosowania kolejnych projektów ustaw podsuwanych przez obóz rządzący. Wszystko to zostało zapewnione przy zachowaniu zewnętrznych atrybutów demokratycznego państwa, takich jak system wielopartyjny i wybory.
This article discusses the reforms of the electoral law and the law on political parties that were carried out in Russia during the first two terms of Vladimir Putin (2000–2008). These reforms were fundamental to shaping the present political system in Russia. This system is based on the state regulation of the activities of political parties and the institutionalisation of social life. The characteristic features of this system are the domination of the party of power in the party system and the marginalisation of the opposition. It leads to the limitation of the mechanisms of social control of state power. Another consequence is the loss of importance by the parliament to the executive, in particular the president. Playing the role of a political base for the Kremlin’s activities became the main factor in allowing the party to actively participate in the country’s political life. One of the consequences of this factor is the political marginalisation of the State Duma, which instead of being a place where different social interests clash, has become a voting machine for successive bills proposed by the ruling camp. All of this was ensured while maintaining the external attributes of a democratic state, such as a multiparty system and elections.

Maksymowicz introduced the term duma for an epic and lyric genre of orał Ukrainian folk art related to song (cf. the synonymic terms: Cossack song, Cossack epos, Cossack psalm) in 1827. The genre was bom in the 15th c. and sińce the 19th c. it has been the subject of folklore research, linguistics, literary studies, cultural studies, history. The researchers studied its poetics, language, musical shape, form of performance, etc.

Jews from Central-Eastern Europe play a significant role in the formation of individual and social self-awareness in the Jewish world. It seems that in the Jewish world there exists a polarised approach to the Jews from this part of the world. On the one hand, there is pride, on the other, prejudice verging on shame. Some Jews have identified themselves with the group, others did the opposite, denied having anything to do with them. The most important question of our analyses is: what is the role of Eastern European Jews in building Jewish collective identity? Byron Sherwin, an American Jew, is an example of a great fascination with the Yiddish civilisation. Not only does he recognize and appreciate the spiritual legacy of Jews in Poland for other Jews around the world, but also accords this legacy a pre-eminent status in the collective Jewish identity. At the same time, he is conscious of the fact that not all Jews, if only in the United States, share his view. It is an upshot of the deep prejudice towards the life in the European Diaspora, which has been in evidence for some time. The same applies to the Jews in Israel. The new generations see the spiritual and cultural achievements of the Eastern European Jews as a legacy that should be learned and developed. This engenders hope that the legacy of the Jews of Eastern Europe will be preserved and will become a foundation of identity for future generations.

The undertaken considerations seek for revealing that in the thought of Plato there are few different approaches to the problem of truth. They start with the epistemological aspect which was inherited by Plato from Parmenides according to which truth is a constitutive element of human cognition and knowledge, an element that is conditioned by precisely determined indicators such as universality, necessity and invariability. The important contribution of Plato in explaining the problem of truth is where he underlines its meaning in the accomplishment of human being. The natural ability for knowing truth is the most crucial expression of humanity that is why more he draws on truth more he exists.

Celem artykułu jest analiza dyskusji toczonej na łamach polskiej prasy w Królestwie Kongresowym na temat koalicji polskich ugrupowań politycznych przed wyborami do II Dumy Państwowej na przełomie 1906 i 1907 roku. Autor omawia przebieg debaty prowadzącej do tego, że Narodowa Demokracja, nie mogąc już i nie chcąc monopolizować reprezentacji polskiej w Dumie, zawiązała porozumienie ze Stronnictwem Polityki Realnej i Polską Partią Postępową. Wykazuje, że debata koncentrowała się na problemie składu koalicji i zasad współdziałania partii. Mniejszą wagę przywiązywano do programu koalicji, zadowalając się ogólnikowym hasłem autonomii Królestwa Polskiego.
The article’s topic is the analysis of debate in the Polish press in Congress Poland concerning coalitions of Polish political parties before the elections for the 2nd State Duma in 1906 and 1907. The Author discusses the debate that led to situation in which National Democracy could not and did not want to monopolize Polish representation in Duma and therefore it created an alliance with Real Politics Party and Polish Progress Party. The Authors proves that debate mainly focused on the problem of coalition’s composition and the rules of parties’ cooperation. The issue of coalition’s programme was less important and it was limited to the general demand for Kingdom of Poland.

The article discusses the role of the European Capital of Culture organisation in the process of negotiating and creating a local identity of a city and its citizens. Social production of the local identity has been analysed as a process of the weaving of a triple helix linking the city’s social capital, citizen’s sense of pride and prestige, and forging it together into collective and individual benefits. The results of research on attitudes towards the idea of the European Capital of Culture presented here suggest that this event became an important device in the public discourse on the struggle for identity, which results in establishing rights to the city.

Introduction and objective. Breast cancer is one of the most frequent malignancies in women. Axillary lymph node involvement, tumour size, receptor status, and level of malignancy are the most significant prognostic factors in breast cancer, but insufficient to date. More factors are needed for establishing the prognosis and treatment in these patients. The aim of the presented study was evaluation of E- cadherin expression and its prognostic value among 89 specimens of breast cancer. Materials and methods. 89 formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded breast cancer specimens were studied for expression of E-cadherin detected by immunohistochemistry. During 10-year observation overall/OS/and disease-free survival/DFS/ of patients were assessed. Results. Average of OS and DFS were shorter among patients without expression of E-cadherin in comparison to survival time of patients with expression of E-cadherin. The lack of E-cadherin expression was present more often among patients with distant metastasis. No essential changes were noticed in the level of E-cadherin depending on the size of the tumour, G, presence of metastasis into the lymph nodes, ER, PR and HER-2, hormonal condition and presence of cancerous tissues in lymphatic vessels and the infiltration of lymph nodes capsules.

The article is based on the results of sociological research of the youth from the city of Moscow. The analysis showed that there is some duality in Moscow youth’s opinions in relation to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The researchers concluded that in contrast to public sector employees, who support the political course of the current president and are ready to vote for the party „United Russia”, young people from the private sector are more interested in politics, although their criticism of parliamentarism. However, young people from the public sector are less interested in politics and endorses to a greater or lesser extent the work of the State Duma of Russia, believing that it represents the interests of ordinary people.
Научная статья основана на результатах социологического исследования молодежи города Москвы по итогам партийного менеджмента и партийной реформы в современной России. Анализ показал, что наблюдается некоторая дуальность позиций московской молодежи по отношению к Государственной Думе Российской Федерации. Исследователи делают вывод, что молодежь из частного сектора, в большей степени интересующаяся политикой в отличие от работников бюджетной сферы, поддерживает политический курс действующего президента и готова голосовать за партию «Единая Россия», хотя и критически оценивает сам институт парламентаризма. Тогда как молодежь из бюджетного сектора меньше интересуется политикой и одобряет в большей или меньшей степени работу Государственной Думы России, считая, что она представляет интересы простого населения.
