Opis:
„Bomba”, Sędziszów I „Sława”, Sędziszów II „Gracja”, Łączki Kucharskie „Ławka”, Ropczyce I „Rakieta”, Ropczyce II „Ropa”, tworzone były i funkcjonowały od samego początku okupacji.
The history of the Sędziszów–Ropczyce Sława Home Army Subdivision, which was separated from the Dębica Deser Home Army Division in the spring of 1944, has not been the subject of a separate study so far. Based on the documents available in State Archive in Rzeszów and the IPN Archives, the author has made an attempt to fill this gap. The basis of the study are the documents from the Home Army Inspectorate Rzeszów Rtęć (archives of the Subdivision and the Division were destroyed), supplemented by the accounts of the Home Army soldiers. The Sława Subdivision was created in the final period of anti-German conspiracy, but the outposts: Brzeziny Bomba, Sędziszów I Sława, Sędziszów II Gracja, Łączki Kucharskie Ławka, Ropczyce I Rakieta, Ropczyce II Ropa were being created and functioned from the very beginning of the occupation. Describing them one by one, the author focused on a different type of Home Army activity for each one. The selected activities of the outposts were nottheir exclusive domain, but this manner of description made it possible to show how the Home Army functioned in a condensed manner, and in every possible aspect. These aspects include: the creation of underground structures, training courses, acquiring weapons, intelligence and counter-intelligence, clandestine production of weapons, sabotage and diversionary activities, a functioning underground justice system, receiving air supplies, structural consolidation, preparations for an armed struggle against the occupant and its execution, and the activities of auxiliary services. As a conclusion, the fate of the soldiers of the Sława Subdivision is presented, from the point of the Soviet invasion onto the Subdivision’s territory until the order to dissolve the Home Army of 19 January 1945 came into effect.

This article presents formally the functional and geographical diversity of the linguistic categories of Polish inhabitants’ names, focusing on the top three suffixes: -ak, -an and -anin. The first part discusses the criteria of suffix distribution, their functional diversity, origin, as well as their formal and semantic development in Polish. The second part is devoted to the old-fashioned and modern formal diversity of inhabitants’ names in Polish dialects. There is also a division of Polish language areas into the northern, central and western part with the suffix -ak, and the southern and eastern part (nowadays only southern and eastern borderland) with the suffix -anin. The last part describes locally conditioned pragmatic characteristics of the suffix -ak, and the attitude in Polish local dialects of the linguistic category of inhabitants’ names to collective neighbors’ nicknames.

Opis:
In October 1939, on the territory of the Polish Republic occupied by Hitler’s Germany, two organisational structures, whose objectives to be realised were clearly defined, confronted each other - on the one hand, the network of the Polish Underground State being created and continuously expanded, with its armed forces: Armed Service to Poland (SZP) - Armed Fighting Union (ZWZ) - Home Army (AK), and on the other, the German occupation administrative apparatus, with its police units and special services. The fundamental goal of the Polish Underground State was to defend and protect the national substance, and to win back independent statehood. Whereas, the fundamental objective of the actions of the opposite sid was to eradicate the Polish elite regardless of its beliefs or political orientation, pursuant to the idea expressed by Adolf Hitler on October 2, 1939 “...Poles can have only one master, and it can be the German, therefore, representatives of the Polish intelligentsia have to be killed. It sounds brutal, but such is the rule of life...” A special position in  implementing the aforementioned objectives was taken by the police and a system of different types of camps inextricably connected with it. The Nazi decision-making bodies were fully aware of the fact that no matter what the occupation policy was going to be it would be confronted by the Polish organised underground movement. The total number of police force to implement the given tasks and in the General Gouvemment subordinate to the Chief Commandant of SS and Police (Hoherer SS und Polizeifuhrer) is estimated of 50 to 60 thousand policemen. Besides a generał terror afflicting the whole Polish society the operations of the German special services were targeted at the liąuidation of the commanders of the Home Army. The purpose of the article was to present the fate of the members of the Main Command (KG) of ZWZ-AK after their arrest and to focus on their stay in Auschwitz. It needs to be emphasised that KG ZWZ-AK, as a conspiratory apparatus was extremely well organised and developed, which grew constantly from a group of several persons who on September 27, 1939 undertook organisation activities, to 1195 officers, officer trainees,  and non commissioned officers in February 1944. There should be added an unspecific number ofprivates, ca. 2000-3000 so that approximately 300CM000 people were members of KG ZWZ-AK. During the period from March 1941 to February 1944 KG ZWZ-AK lost 457 killed and 1001 imprisoned persons. It can be justifiably assumed that the losses of KG ZWZ-AK were over 1500 soldiers, however exact calculations are not possible in this case. The highest KG commanding officers were put under arrest, namely General Stefan Rowecki, pseudonym “Grot”, the Chief Commander of the Home Army; Chief of Staff Colonel Certified Janusz Albrecht, pseudonym “Wojciech”, two Commanders of Unit U; Lieutenant-Colonel Certified Wacław Berka, pseudonym “Brodowicz”, Lieutenant-Colonel Certified Marian Drobik, pseudonym “Dzięcioł”; reserve major Tadeusz Kruk-Strzelecki, the first BIP Head, pseudonym “Dyrektor”.Those numerous arrests of the members of KG ZWZ-AK resulted in placing some of them in concentration camps. As found in half-yearly reports, there were 317 officers and soldiers of the Home Army there. The present research does not allow making any defmite statements about the exact number of KG ZWZ-AK members who were imprisoned in Auschwitz. The analysed data refer to the managing staff and include 30 people. One may put forward a hypothesis that probably a majority of those 317 soldiers placed in concentration camps became the victims of Auschwitz. The scope of the article embraced the description of the fate of those members of KG ZWZ-AK who had some special decision-making competence. In this case it was the level of the head of the department, which should be treated asthe lowest commanding link. Only in two cases I did not obey the rule. The structure of KG ZWZ-AK imposed the way of presentation the subject matter. The fate of the KG members was presented in agreement with their official membership. The published article is a tribute to the memory of all the arrested and murdered members of KG SZP-ZWZ-AK.

Opis:
The article juxtaposes the oldest documents of the Union of Armed Struggle, later called Home Army, signed by the Lieutenant Łukasz Ciepliński. All of these documents can be found in the collection of the State Archives in Rzeszow. This publication adds eleven different original texts from the years 1941-1942 connected to the structure of the Union and Home Army in the Rzeszow District and in Inspectorate Rzeszow. These documents include executive orders, congratulatory orders, instructions and guidelines for undercover work, such as intelligence gathering, prepared and signed by Lt Łukasz Ciepliński. by Lt Łukasz Ciepliński. Each of these documents is fundamental in recreation of the underground military activities in Rzeszow region at the beginning stages of the Polish Underground State. All the documents show the scope of the secret organizatio nal work, its range of influence and the methods used in conspiratorial work. These documents also reflect the occupational atmosphere and the dangers lying therein. They mention important details without which it is impossible to write about the underground army in Rzeszow, but also about the people who were part of it.

Opis:
One of the social groups which was intensely monitored and identified by the Security Services in the Polish People’s Republic (PRL) was that of the Home Army combatants. The article asks about the scale and results of the Secret Services activities regarding people whose postures were shaped by the Home Army ethos. It is intended as a stimulous for a wider discussion on the “the long lasting endurance” of the Home Army in the Polish People’s Republic. The Home Army members belonged to what the Security Services called “traditional” milieus (środowisko). There were hundreds of thousands of them in the country, they were counted by the thousand in Pomerania. It was neither a homogenous nor organised group. The combatants would gather round their commanders and colleagues in small groups from a dozen to a few dozen. It seems that in the period of their greatest activity (after 1956) as well as at the beginning of the 1970s no more than 700 people belonged to the Pomerania Home Army milieu. “Milieu” in this context is thus a Security Service term. It is a group of people who are an object of operational interest. It includes animators of combatant life as well as masses of socially passive Home Army members. They were registered and submitted to direct (circumstantial) invigilation as potentially hostile people. This state lasted throughout communism in Poland. Did the Security Services have reasons to suspect Home Army members of being disloyal or hostile? The Home Army members did not assume a homogenous political or ideological attitude. Those that continued fighting with communism were few. After 1956 active fighting lost its “bellicose” meaning. In the Polish People’s Republic reality, it meant consolidating the milieu, collecting documents and reports from participants of partisan fights as well as open, but more often semi-open challenge (to the authorities). From the beginning of the 1970s the Home Army supported independent initiatives such as funding plaques in churches or commemorating the Home Army in other ways, they also supported the political opposition. The latter form of fighting concerned a small group of people – led by Marian Gołębiewski, Kazimierz Pluta-Czachowski and a few other indomitable spirits. On the coast there were no anticommunist activists, who were so committed even though a few Home Army leaders managed to gather other people round themselves, consolidating them in opposition to the system. The vast majority took a conforming attitude, seemingly agreeing to the rigours of the people’s state. The non-compromising attitudes of these people were not only softened by the repressive character of the system, but also social privileges. Despite this obvious immitation, they did not resign from the core values of the Home Army ethos. From today’s point of view one can say that it was an important component of anticommunist opposition.

Retroviruses comprise a large group of enveloped RNA viruses which have been found in a wide range of vertebrate species including fish. To date a number of fish retrovirus genomes have been partially or completely sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis and genome organization indicate a high diversity of fish retroviruses as well as some unique structural features that have not been found in any other retroviruses. Piscine retroviruses comprise both exogenous and endogenous viruses; most of them are associated with proliferative diseases. Because several of these proliferative diseases have a seasonal trend, they provide an excellent model for studying tumor development and regression. The aim of this work was to review the best-described fish retroviruses.

The Korwin Brigade in ZWZ–AK in 1941–1943The Korwin Brigade was created by Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Wiktor Boczkowski, pseudonym Korwin, a Polish Army Intelligence officer, in Warsaw in September 1941. The Brigade was part of the structures of the regional Counter–Intelligence and subsequently the Counter–Intelligence for the Warsaw District of the Union of Armed Struggle–the Home Army (ZWZ–AK) under by Cavalry Captain (Res.) Alfred Mieczysław Klausal, pseudonym Łosoś, Baron, and Mecenas. The Brigade acted within the ZWZ–AK structures until September 1943, conducting Counter– Intelligence work aimed predominantly against the Polish Workers’ Party (PPR) and the People’s Guard (GL). By this time it enjoyed considerable successes in invigilating GL and PPR members in Warsaw. These accomplishments were rendered possible by professionally conducted Counter– Intelligence operations and conflicts within the PPR and the GL, which paralysed the work carried out by communist Intelligence. The activity of the Korwin Brigade was highly regarded by Boczkowski’s direct superior, Cavalry Captain Klausal, and the Second Department of the Chief Command (KG) of ZWZ–AK. Nonetheless, in September 1943 Colonel Marian Drobik, head of the Second Department KG ZWZ–AK, ordered Lieutenant Colonel Boczkowski to suspend all activity and hand over his subordinates to the Home Army Chief Command. The reason for this decision could have been the disclosure of Boczkowski’s cooperation with the commander of the National Armed Forces (NSZ) Colonel Tadeusz Kurcyusz. In June 1943 Boczkowski undertook the task of establishing contact between Tadeusz Kurcyusz and Jerzy Kurcyusz, head of the civilian liaison outpost of the Government of the Republic of Poland in exile in Istanbul. The possibility that this attempt to disband the Brigade was caused by behind–the–scenes efforts of General Stanisław Tatar, head of the Organisational Department of KG AK, and Colonel Drobik, intent on establishing contact with the Communists, should not be excluded. These steps were kept secret from General Tadeusz Komorowski, Chief Commander of AK. Lieutenant Colonel Boczkowski disobeyed the commands issued by the head of the Second Department KG AK and together with a majority of his subordinates opted for collaboration with the Delegation of the Government in exile. At the same time, the Information Department of the General Staff of GL effectively paralysed the Intelligence activity of the Brigade. On 14 October 1943 a communist death squad shot Stanisław Janota, a leading member of the Korwin Brigade. Conflicts with superiors and the efficient campaign conducted by the communist Counter–Intelligence ended the activity of the Korwin Brigade in ZWZ–AK.

Opis:
Soil temperature is an important factor in biogeochemical processes. On-site monitoring of soil temperature is limited in spatio-temporal scale as compared to air temperature data inventories due to various management difficulties. Therefore, empirical models were developed by taking 30-year long-term (1985-2014) air and soil temperature data for prediction of soil temperatures at three depths (5, 15, 30 cm) in morning (0636 Indian standard time) and afternoon (1336 Indian standard time) for alluvial soils in lower Indo-Gangetic plain. At 5 cm depth, power and exponential regression models were best fitted for daily data in morning and afternoon, respectively, but it was reverse at 15 cm. However, at 30 cm, exponential models were best fitted for both the times. Regression analysis revealed that in morning for all three depths and in afternoon for 30 cm depth, soil temperatures (daily, weekly, and monthly) could be predicted more efficiently with the help of corresponding mean air temperature than that of maximum and minimum. However, in afternoon, prediction of soil temperature at 5 and 15 cm depths were more precised for all the time intervals when maximum air temperature was used, except for weekly soil temperature at 15 cm, where the use of mean air temperature gave better prediction.
