Opis:
This article refl ects on the sixty years marking the anniversary of the encyclical letter Miranda Prorsus by Pope Pius XII. Miranda Prorsus was the fi rst document written in 1957 by the Church to refl ect on the three important means of communication: Motion Pictures (Film), Television (TV) and Radio. It highlighted the importance of these  “remarkable technical inventions” to aid humanity in as far as development and understanding the media was concerned. Each of these three instruments of communication is examined in both the strengths and weaknesses they carry, but much more, how they can play a role in advancing humanity in the area of morality and truth telling. The article tries to use some of the important highlights in the context of Zambia my country that has embraced these means of communication with radio stations set up by the respective Bishops and a Television soon to be launched by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB). In retrospect the article tries to show how these means and technical inventions can become handy in as far as the evangelization is concerned.

Given a $\mathcal L_{\alpha\beta} ^E$-structure $E$, where $\mathcal L_{\alpha\beta} ^E$ is an infinitary language, we show that $\alpha$ and $\beta$ can be chosen in such way that every orbit of the group $G$ of automorphisms of $E$ is $\mathcal L_{\alpha\beta} ^E$-definable. It follows that two sequences of elements of the domain $D$ of $E$ satisfy the same set of $\mathcal L_{\alpha\beta}$-formulas if and only if they are in the same orbit of $G$.

Opis:
This research deals with the development of an optimization system to minimize employee noise exposure in the work environment. It is known from the literature that continuous exposure to high noise levels can cause heart overload, stress, fatigue, and increase accident numbers at a production line. Thus, it is necessary to develop acoustic solutions at an industrial level that could minimize failures and accident occurrences. The rules that regulate occupational noise exposures allow an assessment of the degrees of exposure and subsequent corrections of working conditions. It is observed that the exposure is necessary for further evaluation and correction. Therefore, this research proposes to simulate occupational noise exposure conditions through mathematical models implemented in C++, using the GUROBI linear optimization package and to act previously to minimize ONIHL (Occupational Noise-Induced Hearing Loss). One of this work results is based on Doses Values, TWA (Time Weighted Average) and Distances Covered, using these three factors simultaneously through the optimization, it obtains a route that minimizes exposure and avoids ONIHL. Although there is a need for balanced doses between employees, to this end, the Designation Problem was implemented. Thus, with the routes obtained by optimization, an efficient allocation task was made for the maintenance crew, resulting in minimized and balanced doses. This model was applied to a real industrial plant that will not be identified, only methodology and results obtained will be presented.

Opis:
This article describes a new electrical conductance converter method suitable for very low power applications, where energy constraints prevail over speed and measurement accuracy. This method gathers voltage integration and shopper stabilization techniques to process noisy Ion level signals and overcome severe limitations of weak inversion channel CMOS circuitry. Main features, tradeoffs and upgrades are exploited. Besides that, the paper presents the circuit schematics for a standard 0.35 µm CMOS implementation. Post-layout simulations show a total current consumption lower than 750nA, including current source excitation inherent to the conductance measurement. Such low power consumption allows measuring several physical parameters using self-powered wireless sensors networks.

Opis:
Results of an experimental study on the mixing characteristics of the stratified flow inside bottom cavities in salt wedge estuaries are presented and discussed. The experiments were conducted in a laboratory flume where a cavity was formed by placing two consecutive sills over the channel bottom. The cavity was filled with a bottom layer of saline water with a sharp density interface. A constant fresh water discharge was supplied at the upstream end of the flume. An ADV and a fast conductivity probe were used to measure the turbulence and salinity structure inside the cavity. Flow visualizations were made, in addition, to keep track of the position of the density interface inside the cavity. The density interface tilts in the downstream direction with a slope that increases as the local densimetric Froude number, Frd, increases. This slope can be reasonably estimated from a linear analysis of the response of the 2-layer stratified fluid to an interfacial shear stress. The entrainment velocity, or rate of interface deepening due to mixing, decreases as Frd increases, which appears to be the consequence of a decreasing mixing efficiency related to the tilting of the interface. The present entrainment velocity data compares well with existing experimental data and models, validating the latter on an extended range of relevant parameters. By scaling these results to a prototype such as the Valdivia Estuary in Chile, it is concluded that purging of the saline water trapped inside of bottom cavities cannot be completed during a tidal period.

Opis:
Over the past several decades, much attention has been given to the development of technologies utilizing solar energy to generate inexpensive and clean heat for heating purposes of buildings and even for electricity generation in the concentrating solar thermal power (CSTP) plants. However, unlike conventional heat generating technologies consuming coal, natural gas, and oil, heat produced by solar energy is intermittent because it is significantly affected by daily (day-night) and seasonal fluctuations in solar insolation. This fact issues a considerable challenge to the adoption of solar energy as one of the main renewable heat sources in the future. Therefore, along with the development of the different solar technologies, the heat storage technologies have also been the focus of attention. Use of the storage devices, able to accumulate heat, enables not only enhance the performance of the heating systems based on solar energy but also make them more reliable. This paper gives an overview of the various sensible heat storage technologies used in tandem with the fluctuating solar heat sources.

Opis:
In a world described or experienced as unfair, what can philosophical practitioners propose in order to help individuals and communities strive for a meaningful life? One answer, empirically informed by the author’s practice as philosophical counselor in therapeutic, self-care and organizational contexts, is five principles for the cultivation of philosophical health, namely mental heroism, deep orientation, critical creativity, deep listening, and the “Creal” (the creative Real as ultimate possibility). In the light of Hadot’s rediscovery of philosophy as a way of life and in dialogue with his reading of ancient philosophy, it is asserted that the embodied and socially embedded mind can, through these five principles or modalities, be prepared to maintain a pragmatic elevation of view and creative resilience in everyday events, especially in critical situations. This meta-analytic and meta-dialectic practice of philosophical health, termed “crealectics,” presupposes that we are of the same creative cosmological flesh (the Creal), and therefore we are bound to comprehend and care for each other philosophically.

Opis:
Since the (re) structuring collective memory always implies particular political processes, in the case of Ivan Goran Kovačić and his narrative poem The Pit (Jama), the fundamental text of the Partisan canon of Croatian literature, it may be divided into two periods with a transitional watershed of the 90s (or the disintegration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) as a historical turning point. Post-Yugoslav revisionist processes of the memory of World War II, which then started, inevitably had to influence the “myth about Goran”, up to that time in the conventional memory constructed around three key points. The first was his leaving Zagreb, together with Vladimir Nazor, to join the Partisans; the second was the revelation of Ustasha crimes in the epic poem The Pit and third his death by a “chetnikʼs knife”, which he prophetically hinted at in his poem “My Tomb”. Furthermore, the critical reception of The Pit from its first edition takes place on two plans of expression – artistic (fine arts) and literary. These “two lives” of one epic poem had different destinies and also attached to themselves different memories including forgetting strategies of (re)structuring collective memory.
