Opis:: Three coins were found during a small archaeological excavation at the medieval castle in the Lower Silesian village of Stare Kolnie (Popielów Commune, Opole County, Opolskie Voivodeship): a Silesian kwartnik from the beginning of the 14th century, a Wrocław heller from the years 1417-20 and a counterfeit Polish half-groschen struck after 1410. The kwartnik belongs to the oldest artifacts found at the castle, whereas the fifteenth-century coins were found in the layer related to the final demolition of the castle during the fighing in 1443.

Opis:: This study aims to determine whether the decision of the V Lustration Department of the Court of Appeal in Warsaw issued in 2000, that Lech Wałęsa was not a secret collaborate of the former Security Service of the Polish People’s Republic (PPR), was a correct one. Marek Aftyka’s “briefing memo” and Proceedings of Regional Court in Gdańsk I Civil Department in 2010 in a case brought by Lech Wałęsa against Krzysztof Wyszkowski were researched in this article. It is stated that individual decisions of judges in 2000 were wrong in this case, which was confirmed on February 16, 2016 by finding the personal and working files of the secret collaborate codename “Bolek”. Analysis of the sources demonstrated that Wałęsa he did not consider the cooperation with the prosecution and security institutions, as well as with the state of real socialism as something wrong. At the same time, former Polish president, as a well-trained agent, will never admit to the cooperation.

Opis:: Professor Lech Krzyżaniak (died on 10 July 2004) was an outstanding Polish archaeologist, museum expert, lecturer and member of numerous international organisations, including the Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology at Warsaw University, the UNESCO Executive Committee, the Polish National ICOM Committee and the International Association of Egyptologists. Since 1966 he conducted excavations in Egypt, Sudan and Algeria, contributing to studies on the onset of early agricultural civilisations in North-East Africa. Prof. Krzyżaniak was the author of more than 200 articles and three books on the last stage of antiquity in Egypt and Sudan, and made his knowledge available not only to Polish students but also at St. John’s College, Cambridge and the universities in Calgary and Berlin. In 1982 Prof. Krzyżaniak was appointed director of the Archaeological Museum in Poznań, which thanks to his initiatives and zeal became a meeting place for scientists exchanging experiences, exceptionally attractive for all those interested in archaeology as well as Polish and world culture.

Opis:: A proper estimation of time in user stories is a crucial task for both the IT team as well as for the customer, especially in agile projects. Although agile practices offer a lot of flexibility and promote a culture of continuous change, there are always clearly de need timeboxed periods where an IT company has to commit to delivering working soft-ware. Estimating time of user story implementation provides clarity and the opportunity to control the project by the management, yet at the same time, it can increase pressure on software developers. Thus, incorrectly estimated user stories may lead to quality problems including system malfunction, technical debt, and general user experience issues. The paper describes user story characteristics, reasons of user story estimation inaccuracy as well as a model of their potential impact on post-release defects in large IT software ventures, all derived from the conducted interview with practitioners in Capgemini software development company.

Opis:: The study introduces a case of a 51-year old patient with Caroli’s disease of left liver lobe. In 2011 the patient was admitted to Clinic of General, Vascular and Transplantation Surgery. She was after first in her life incident of an acute pancreatitis and subsequent ERCP procedure with left hepatic biliary tract drainage. The lady was qualified to left-hemihepatoctomy, which was successfully conducted in our clinic. The only complication of the procedure was surgical site infection which was properly treated with typical antibiotics. One-year observation occurred no other complications and liver function was fine.

Opis:: W artykule w sposób syntetyczny przedstawiono frezotoczenie – niezbyt popularną ciągle metodę obróbki skrawaniem. Jest to obróbka hybrydowa stanowiąca połączenie tradycyjnych obróbek toczenia i frezowania. Przedstawiono jej zalety i wady. Przedstawiono także wyniki badań eksperymentalnych, które potwierdziły dużą przydatność frezotoczenia w praktyce przemysłowej. Jej pozytywną cechą jest wyraźnie większa efektywność obróbki w porównaniu do obróbek tradycyjnych, negatywną zaś – mniejsza dokładność. Ogranicza to w pewnym stopniu jej zastosowanie.
In this paper rotating milling – a not very popular method of machining is presented in a synthetic way. It is hybrid machining which combines traditional turning and milling operations. Its advantages and disadvantages are presented. The results of experimental research, which confirmed the great usefulness of rotating milling in industrial practice are also presented. Its positive feature is significantly better machining efficiency in comparison to traditional machining, while its negative feature is worse accuracy. This feature limits its use in some applications.

Opis:: The paper presents a synthetic characterization of modern methods of manufacturing or regenerating machine elements. Considered methods are machining and additive methods, in particular 3D printing in the FDM/FFF technique. For the study, the authors made samples of the holder bracket using selected methods. Samples made by machining operations, 3D printing with various filling were tested. The paper contains a technical and economic analysis of the production of a holder bracket using the discussed methods. The dynamics of steel and FDM/FFF printed samples were also assessed by determining their resonance curves. The vibration magnification fac-tors were analyzed - the quotient of the vibration amplitudes in the resonance to the static deformations that occurred under the influence of the constant force and the location of the vibration resonances - the natural frequencies for individual vibration modes. The study's main objective is to assess the possibility of emergency changing the manufacturing technology of selected machine components. The authors were interested in partially replacing costly and not environmentally friendly milling with 3D printing. Machine elements can be manufactured by printing in classical machine building and emergency conditions to replace a damaged component temporarily (e.g., on a ship, for the time of arrival at a port or shipyard). The main assumption guiding the authors during the preparation of this publication was the analysis of the possibility of using the production of "ad hoc" prepared spare parts and their use in the event of a lack of access to parts made of the intended materials.

Opis:: Serious damage to the inner rim of the rear twin wheel in one dump truck was noted during the operation of the fleet performing transport tasks. It was a drive wheel, and its damage occurred while driving with a load exceeding the permissible value. The examination of selected fragments of the damaged rim surface was conducted visually as well as using a digital microscope with a portable head. The measurements of the Vickers hardness and microscopic observations of the material structure of the sample cut along the thickness of the rim disk were carried out. The drive torque loading of the twin wheels of the tipper-truck rear axle, under their mating with different kinds of road roughness and under various vertical loads of the wheels was calculated. An analysis of stress distributions in the rim modelled using the Finite Element Method was also conducted for several possible scenarios of wheel loading. The damage to the rim was caused by simultaneous action of several factors, such as overloading the car, poor condition of the tires, loading the drive wheel by a part of the vehicle weight and the driving torque, and hitting a wheel on a cavity in a dirt road, causing a temporary relief of one of the tires on a twin wheel.

Opis:: Purpose: The aim of the study was to determine the significance of carcinoembryonic antigen and matrix metalloproteinase 2 peritoneal washes and serum concentration in patients suffering from colorectal cancer concerning tumor staging and 5-year survival rate in these patients. Methods: 80 patients who underwent curative surgery for colorectal cancer were included in the study. Preoperative serum and intraoperative peritoneal washes CEA and MMP-2 concentrations were measured. Results: Regarding tumor penetration, CEA-s and CEA-p concentrations were higher in subsequent stages from T2 to T4. Both CEA-s and CEA-p concentrations were lower in T2 compared to T3 and T4. Significant difference of CEA-s and CEA-p was noted between T2 and T4 stages. MMP-2-s concentration was higher in T3 compared to T2, the highest MMP-2-p concentration was in T4, with no statistical significance. Regarding nodular status, a significant difference of CEA-s was noted between N0 and N1. For CEA-p, significance was found between N0 and N2 as between N1 and N2. MMP-2-s concentration was the highest in N1, MMP-2-p concentration was the highest in T4, with no statistical significance. The 5-year survival rate for all patients was 63.53%. There were significant differences in CEA-s and CEA-p concentrations between patients with negative and positive 5-year survival. Conclusion: Intraoperative peritoneal washes concentration of CEA may potentially serve as an important factor for more precise colorectal cancer staging. CEA-p and CEA-s concentrations correlate with survival rate in patients suffering from colorectal cancer and can be useful as an additional prognostic factor. The usefulness of MMP-2 measurement still requires further studies.

Opis:: Although children are a minority among patients with cerebral artery aneurysms, aneurisms in this age group remain a problem not to be ignored. The cause of this is a much higher incidence of giant aneurisms in child - ren in comparison to adults, sometimes with dramatic manifestation. Two children with giant aneurysms of cerebral arteries, operated on at the Department of Neurosurgery Polish Mother Memorial Hospital Research Institute in Łódź are presented in this paper. Thirteen-year-old girl had an aneurysm on the left internal cerebral artery (25 mm in diameter). Ten-year-old boy had an aneurysm on the right medial cerebral artery (40 mm in diameter). Both aneurysms presented with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Surgical treatment consisted of aneurysm clipping in the case of the boy and proximal internal cerebral artery ligation in case of the girl. In spite of surgery, the treatment was unsuccessful. on the basis of presented cases some problems connected with the management of pediatric patients with giant cerebral aneurysms are discussed.
Wśród ogółu pacjentów z tętniakami naczyń mózgowych pacjenci pediatryczni stanowią zdecydowaną mniejszość, jednak w tej grupie wiekowej stanowią one istotny problem kliniczny. Wynika to między innymi z faktu znacznie częstszego w stosunku do populacji dorosłych występowania tętniaków olbrzymich, których przebieg kliniczny bywa niekiedy dramatyczny. W pracy przedstawiono przypadki dwojga dzieci z tętniakami olbrzymimi naczyń mózgowych leczonych operacyjnie w Klinice Neurochirurgii Instytutu Centrum Zdrowia Matki Polki w Łodzi. U 13-letniej dziewczynki stwierdzono obecność tętniaka o średnicy 25 mm położonego na lewej tętnicy szyjnej wewnętrznej. U 10-letniego chłopca rozpoznano tętniaka o średnicy 40 mm zlokalizowanego na prawej tętnicy środkowej mózgu. Chorzy zostali przyjęci do szpitala z objawami krwotoku podpajęczynówkowego, w stanie ciężkim. W obu przypadkach zastosowano leczenie chirurgiczne polegające na zaklipsowaniu szyi tętniaka u chłopca oraz zaklipsowaniu naczynia doprowadzającego u dziewczynki. U obojga dzieci dalszy przebieg leczenia był niepomyślny. W oparciu o prezentowane przypadki w pracy omówiono problemy związane z leczeniem dzieci z tętniakami olbrzymimi naczyń mózgowych.
