    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie wkładu Wojskowego Instytutu Badań Socjologicznych (WIBS) – jednostki badawczo-rozwojowej i zarazem jednostki wojskowej funkcjonującej w latach 1990–1999 – w rozwój badań nad wojskiem, bezpieczeństwem i obronnością. Opracowanie powstało na podstawie dokumentów urzędowych, sprawozdań z badań i wspomnień komendanta instytutu i dowódcy tej szczególnej jednostki badawczej, powstałej na początku transformacji ustrojowej w Polsce. Poruszone zostały problemy związane z tworzeniem się i organizacją działalności WIBS, opisane resortowe projekty badawcze, formy współpracy międzynarodowej, udział w międzypaństwowych projektach badawczych, kongresach i konferencjach, rozwój naukowy personelu oraz infrastruktury badawczej.
    The aim of the article is to show the contribution of the Military Institute for Sociological Research, a research and development unit and also a military unit, operating in 1990–1999, in the development of research on the military, security and defense. The content of the article is prepared on the basis of official documents, research reports, and memories of the commander of the institute and this special research unit established at the beginning of the political transformation in Poland. The article presents problems related to the establishment and organization of the institute’s activities, completed departmental research projects, types of international cooperation, participation in international research projects, congresses and con- ferences, scientific development of personnel and research infrastructure.

    Artykuł przedstawia różne możliwości socjologicznej charakterystyki wojska. Opisuje wojsko jako zbiorowość społeczną, która może być traktowana jako „populacja”, „zbiór statystyczny”, „kategoria socjologiczna” i „kategoria społeczna”. Następnie charakteryzuje je jako „grupę społeczną” o przewadze więzi formalnej nad personalną, własnym systemie uwarstwienia i dużych możliwościach socjalizacyjnych. Wreszcie przedstawia wojsko jako „grupę zorganizowaną” (dyspozycyjną, o wysokiej niezawodności), czyli „biurokratyczną organizację” społeczną: z jednej strony – przeznaczoną do walki (bojową); z drugiej strony – przeznaczoną do misji pokojowych czy też operacji innych niż wojenne.
    The article presents different possibilities of sociological characteristic of the military forces. It describes the military as a social community, which can be regarded as a population, a statistical collectivity and sociological or social category. The main characteristics of a military community is based on superiority of formal ties over personal and presence of powerful system of socialization and distinctive stratification. Finally, it presents the military as an organized group (dispositional, high reliable) important bureaucratic organization in society: on the one hand - intended to combat (fighting); on the other hand – designed to peacekeeping missions or operations other than war.

    Jak wynika z treści artykułu kompetencje społeczne są bardzo różnie definiowane. Nie wszystkie te ujęcia kompetencji społecznych mają walor preskryptywny a więc użyteczny dla polityk. Podejścia transdyscyplinarne w definiowaniu tego typu kompetencji wydają się poznawczo najbardziej owocne. Dorobek socjologii i psychologii (społecznej) traktowany komplementarnie pozwala znacznie lepiej wyjaśnić czym są „kompetencje społeczne”, jak się one kształtują oraz jakie jest ich znaczenie w dowodzeniu i kierowaniu niż ujęcia monodyscyplinarne. Kompetencje społeczne nie powstają same z siebie. Są one kształtowane w wyniku złożonych procesów socjalizacji, edukacji i wychowania. Aby więc racjonalnie i skutecznie rozwijać kompetencje społeczne musimy uwzględniać w toku ich rozwijania wiedzę nie tylko z psychologii ale także z innych nauk społecznych zwłaszcza z zakresu socjologii. Szczególne znaczenie, jak autor stara się wykazać, ma tu wiedza dotycząca mechanizmów, etapów, efektów i typów socjalizacji.
    As is clear from the content of the article, social competences are very differently defined. Not all these approaches to social competences have a prescriptive value and are therefore useful for politics. Transdisciplinary approaches in the definition of this type of competence seem to be the most fruitful cognitively. The achievements of sociology and psychology (social) treated complementarily allows to better explain what are "social competences", how they shape themselves and what is their importance in commanding and management than monodisciplinary approaches. Social competences do not arise by themselves. They are formed as a result of the complex processes of socialization, education and upbringing. So in order to rationally and effectively develop social competences, we must take into account in the course of their development knowledge not only from psychology but also from other social sciences, especially in the field of sociology. Particular importance, as the author tries to show, has knowledge about the mechanisms, stages, effects and types of socialization.

    Morale is one of the most frequently recurring concepts in the media covering events from the country and the world. It is used by journalists and experts representing the scientific and military communities. The concept is also used by ordinary people commenting on the attitudes and achievements of various individuals and social entities, especially in situations of particular threats to human life and health. Since the term morale is used in different contexts and meanings, many different ways of understanding it can be noted. It can also be seen that approaches to the phenomenon of morale differ in time – interest in it decreases during peace and social stability and increases during conflicts, revolutions, or wars. For example, in the post-Cold War decade of the 1990s, known as the “end of history” or the “peace dividend” period, there was little scientific work on morale. But earlier, during the “Cold War”, such publications were numerously created in the West. From the emerging interest in the concept of morale in modern times, it appears that it is still valid and important.

    In this paper four algorithms of methods of approximate solution of the two-point boundary value problem for the equation - u” + g(x)u = f(x) are given and compared. The finite difference, collocation, finite element and collocation-Galerkin methods are considered. Numerical results are presented. For sufficiently regular functions u,f and g the finite difference method is the most effective.

    The article was created as a result of the work TECHMATSTRATEG 1 program “Modern Material Technologies” as part of the project with the acronym INNOBIOLAS entitled “Development of innovative working elements of machines in the forestry sector and biomass processing based on high-energy surface modification technologies of the surface layer of cast elements”; agreement No. TECHMATSTRATEG1/348072/2/NCBR/2017. The article discusses the procedure for selecting casting materials that can meet the high operational requirements of working tools of mulching machines: transfer of high static and dynamic loads, resistance to tribological wear, corrosion resistance in various environments. The mulching process was briefly described, then the alloys were selected for experimental tests, model alloys were made and perform material tests were carried out in terms of functional and technological properties. The obtained results allowed to select the alloy where the test castings were made.

    The article presents the developed IT solutions supporting the material and technological conversion process in terms of the possibility of using the casting technology of selected alloys to produce products previously manufactured with the use of other methods and materials. The solutions are based on artificial intelligence, machine learning and statistical methods. The prototype module of the information and decision-making system allows for a preliminary assessment of the feasibility of this type of procedure. Currently, the selection of the method of manufacturing a product is based on the knowledge and experience of the technologist and constructor. In the described approach, this process is supported by the proprietary module of the information and decision-making system, which, based on the accumulated knowledge, allows for an initial assessment of the feasibility of a selected element in a given technology. It allows taking into account a large number of intuitive factors, as well as recording expert knowledge with the use of formal languages. Additionally, the possibility of searching for and collecting data on innovative solutions, supplying the knowledge base, should be taken into account. The developed and applied models should allow for the effective use and representation of knowledge expressed in linguistic form. In this solution, it is important to use methods that support the selection of parameters for the production of casting. The type, number and characteristics of data have an impact on the effectiveness of solutions in terms of classification and prediction of data and the relationships detected.
