Opis:
The main aim of the paper is to show and examine how culture shapes human progress; in particular-how values determine economic development. The author describes culture as an axiological sphere including values, rules, customs, beliefs attitudes and worldviews that are prevalent in a given society. According to the humanistic perspective (called cultural turn), adequate values and other axiological determinants have a very positive impact on economic development of each society. The author analyses Mariano Grondona’s twenty cultural factors: religion, trust in the individual, the moral imperative, two concepts of wealth, different views of competition, two notions of Justice, the value of work, the role of Heresy, education, the importance of utility, the lesser virtues, time focus, rationality, authority, worldview, life view, salvation from or in the world, two Utopians, nature of optimism, two visions of democracy. The main thesis of the Grondona’s work is that economic development and well-being of civilization depends on choosing a progressive value system by a society. The author emphasizes that a further study must be conducted to understand and apply scientifically this model.

Nowadays, no one could question the fact that in the post-communist countries the laws of economics work in the same way as in the countries in which the communist system has never prevailed. Yet the long-term results of a strategy implemented in the 1990s for the economic transformation, for social life have become visible just now which means that a formulation of a diagnosis encompassing the entirety of the results of “the shock” transformation for the individual aspects of social life is possible only now. From this point of view, we are still living in the period which one can recognise for the great economic experiment.

This article focuses on the sources of Israeli economic success. There were two main sources of Israeli success. Firstly, a large inflow of funds from abroad, mainly from the Jewish diaspora, enabled consecutive governments to make huge investment outlays. Secondly, effective integration of immigrants into social life provided the economy with highly qualified specialists. Traditionally, an important role in the economy of Israel is played by the financial sector and tourism. The defense industry, electronics industry and gem-cutting (in which Israel is the world undisputed leader) occupy a prominent position in the Israeli economy. An important factor that propels the Israeli economy is innovation.

The paper examines the channels of entrepreneurship contributing to economic growth. Based on definition of entrepreneurship as an economic activity targeting profits via introducing new products, exploring new markets and introducing new production methods, main methods for measuring entrepreneurship activity will be examined. No single method can fully appropriate as it lacks the full scope of entrepreneurship activity or includes related issues, but the level of development of it activity is linked to the quantity of newly created firms. The empirical study based on that data revealed three main channels through which entrepreneurship makes its contribution to economic growth – innovation, job creation and competitiveness. The main objective of the paper is to deliver factors which underline the link of entrepreneurship to economic growth. The first factor is a trade off between productive and transferring entrepreneurship, and the second on is a trade off between entrepreneurial and employment economic activity.

Opis:
Global capitalism is both an outcome and a stimulant of spreading not only the same market economy standards and lifestyles but moral relativism as well. Its origin goes back to Anglo-Saxon liberalism that limits the individuals to maximize their personal benefits that are measured according to the market values. The perception of human nature adopted in this ideology determines solutions as for how to achieve individual and communitarian goals and meet criteria of their validation. As a result, the development of human capital understood as the knowledge necessary to act, is focused on its subjective functions. Thus, human capital plays a more important role in the multiplication of individual benefit than in the improvement of the value of human life. Such developed human capital results in growing disparities in the knowledge assets enabling the harmonization of personal benefit with the responsibility for the valuable life of present and future generations. These disparities lead to an increase in risk of global threats to humanity. The reaction to these threats cannot be based on the development of globalization. The concept that respects the multi-faceted nature of a human being seems to be an appropriate alternative. Due to these efforts, new economics might be developed that may provide applicable educational and institutional tools for long-term sustained economic development and improve the quality of life of an individual.

Opis:
Research background: Although some authors propose that economic growth should reduce crime rates as wider opportunities to earn money in a legal way diminish the incentives to commit illegal activities and lead to rising costs of the latter, the results of many studies indicate that an increase in crime rates is also possible under the conditions of economic growth. There are also differing views on the relationship between various economic indicators and crime rates as well as the nature of the relationship between the above-mentioned phenomena in the long and short run. Purpose of the article: After classifying the EU member states by their crime and economic indicators, the main objective of the article is to assess the relationship between the crime and economic development and identify the causes of this relationship. Methods: Systematic and comparative literature analysis, the Promethee and Entropy methods, Spearman?s correlation coefficient. Findings & value added: The Promethee method, together with the Entropy method, were used to estimate the weights of the EU member states with respect to their crime and economic development indicators. The most pronounced differences were recorded in Portugal, Spain, and the Slovak Republic. The rankings estimated for the EU member states revealed that although economic situation affects crime rate, it can also be affected by the differences in cultural and political development. Scientific novelty lies in complementing the theory of the shadow economy with the results showing that compared to other crimes, corruption has the greatest weight when examining the relationship between economic development and crime. The practical significance of the research lies in classifying the EU member states into 4 groups with consideration of the relationship between crime and economic development, which may help public authorities to devise the target measures for the effective fight against crime given the nature of the relationship between crime and economic development.

The traditional linear economic growth model pursues solely the GDP growth, and economic development is achieved at the expense of the environment and the resources. This model has obvious ethical flaws and has been viewed as a “from cradle to grave” approach. Differently, the circular economy development model establishes the principles of “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” as its core contents in order to achieve sustainable development, which has been viewed as a "from cradle to cradle" approach. Circular economy engenders new ethical relationships, and proposes new ethics of production and consumption. Circular economy implies the holistic value principle and sustainable value principle, which can remedy the ethical flaws of the traditional linear model. As an ethical and sustainable development approach, circular economy contributes to the Copernican change in the field of economic ethics.

Drawing on reference group, relative deprivation, conspicuous consumption and hierarchy of needs theories, this paper tests the hypothesis that goods (material and other) bring more satisfaction if few other people have them. We test this hypothesis by estimating the effect of education and income on happiness in large representative national samples from 32 nations at various levels of economic development. The results indicate that, net of individuals’ socio-demographic characteristics and country’s level of development, the higher the average education in a given society, the smaller the gain from advanced education on individuals’ happiness. Similarly, the richer the society, the less do gains in family income confer gains in individuals’ happiness. Thus, the more that goods such as education and income diffuse through a society, the less they enhance people’s subjective well-being. However, the nation’s level of economic development has a strong, independent positive effect on well-being. Taken together, the quantitative implication of these patterns is that economic growth enhances well-being, especially for poor people, and more so in poor nations than in rich nations.

Suchedniów is a city located in the northern part of the Świętokrzyskie voivodeship and has a rich industrial history. Since the turn of the 80's and 90's, the city has not found any effective ways for the local development. The aim of the presented article is to explore the development possibilities of Suchedniów with an indication of tourism and spa. Another goal is to analyze the tourist preferences of Polish residents, which give the picture of tourism and the sense of its development in the city. Another purpose of this article was to investigate the current health resort situation in Poland to find out whether the city's health-related development is justified. The adopted research methodology was based on surveys conducted among Polish citizens. These data provided information about the tourist preferences of Polish people. The received information also showed development trends in tourism in Poland. Another, alternative research method was critical analysis of literature and available information on the Internet. In this case, the internet is a very important source of information, because dynamic changes in this sector cause the information in the literature to be outdated.  Conclusions resulting from the article show that there is a possibility of introducing tourist and health development paths in Suchedniów. Research and analysis shows that Suchedniów has the possibilities and conditions to go away from the industrial model and face towards tourism and spa. The present conditions and tourist preferences of Poles are also conducive to this type of transformation.

The industry of salt Production in Vlore is part of one of the branches of industry that can contribute in an important way in the national production and in the improvement of the balance of imports-exports. This project is done for two reasons: 1. Technologies used in Albania are of a very old level 2. The current productivity is very low compared with the industrialized countries. This investment project apart from the impact to a sustainable development for the area it also presents a series of other values such as: - Saline can provide water surface which are important for the moderation of climate and air quality. - In the period of their return to their previous conditions they can turn into Lagoons of great value; - Saline serve as a tool for the regulation of flooding in the area in which they are located;
