Opis:
In this short article we will try to discuss a very peculiar phenomenon of the Japanese religious scene that can be identified throughout the history, showing similar characteristics in completely different religious settings. This phenomenon we should call non-institutional religious practices, non-organized individual religious practices or private religion. Due to a very specific character of Japanese religiousness, free individual religious quest have become an important part of Japanese religious life. After describing some factors that contributed to the emergence of religious tolerance and sincerity, we shall discuss instances of non-institutional individual practices of Shugendō, Komusō and the notion of non-church Christianity proposed by Kanzō Uchimura, thus building an image of Japanese religiousness not from the standpoint of historical development of religious organizations and their teachings, but from the point of view of an individual practitioner, giving the individual an opportunity and his or her intrinsic right not to depend on organized religions, but to freely follow their own religious pursuits.

Fundamentalism characterizes all religions in the world, but in the case of Islam – in recent times – it most often causes the use of terrorist methods. The dogmas of that religion defines the Koran, according to which Islam is based on five pillars of faith, which are also fundamental duties of every Muslim. A feature of Islamic fundamentalism is the introduction of the principles of life, based on traditional patterns recorded in the Koran, regulating social and political spheres, as well as the separation of the Western way of life. Its causes are frustration and social discontent, combined with the rejection of modernity and the changes proposed by the West. The proclamation of position of fight against injustice and demoralization in the name of creating a “better world”, in conjunction with its own interpretation of the provisions of the Koran, results in promoting activities generally considered unacceptable.

For long, the military was a cog in the wheel of democratic governance in Nigeria. Its intrusion into the politics of the nation resulted to its domination of the political space and imposition of arbitrary rule for an aggregate period of 29 years out of the nation’s 47 years of existence. The last disengagement of the military from politics was effected on 29, May 1999. The Fourth Republic was thus inaugurated, heralding yet another phase in the nation’s quest for democratic governance. The restoration of democratic rule was not achieved on a platter of gold. The military junta was subjected to intense domestic and international pressure. Along with myriad civil society groups, the church added its voice to the clamour for democracy. But inspite of its visible role in this struggle, the efforts of the church remain unsung. This study is intended partly as a redress for the marginal attention paid to the patriotic struggle of the church, but more significantly, it is an attempt to illuminate the increasing concern of the church with the secular welfare of its flock.

Opis:
The influence of religion on shaping the urban space has to be considered in at least two ways. Firstly, we have cities being created around the places of religious worship (Jackowski 2003, Beaujeu-Garnier, Chabot 1971). Secondly, we have places of religious worship created within the urban space. In both cases, we are dealing with the term of 2 religious space, which by analogy to S. Liszewski’s tourist space (1999) and A. Jackowski’s pilgrimage space (2004) can be defined as subspace of geographical space, created in relevance to its functions. It also seems that for the religious space of the city, its meaning defined by people is no less important than its functions. This article aims to analyze the changes of religious space in Łódź. The issue is presented in relation to the evolution of religious structure of Łódź citizens, from the early 19th century to present times. Various source materials have been used to create this article: census data, archive documents, interviews and questionnaires.

One of the most important ideas for the strategists of security is the idea of evil. This idea must be considered in two aspects: as a philosophical thought (as evil „in itself ”) and as related to concrete evil we can encounter. If we accept that the evil is real, it must be destroyed. If we accept that it is only a lack of good, should be completed to restore balance. The article spotlights the forgotten Zoroaster’s theories and some of their adaptations placed in the context of modern definitions of reality, human nature, hostility, war, and leadership. The summary encourages reflexion of the question what contemporary strategists can learn from Zoroaster.

In the article I discuss the influence of Pyotr Chaadayev’s thoughts contained in the first Philosophical Letter on Alexander Herzen’s concept. Chaadayev was openly intriguing, as despite general societal silence he spoke out against the Russian state oppressing an individual. I pay attention to the fact that Herzen’s attempt to defend an individual appropriated by abstraction (the state, God, ideology, progress) stems from the sources of Chaadayev’s concepts. Herzen revalues Chaadayev’s idea of Russia free from the burden of history, shifting the focus from historiography to philosophical anthropology. Each individual becomes part of it, as originally we are all deprived of history, its burden, every man thrown into the world is not ready, undefined, the past does not exist for him, just as the presence exists and the future opens potentially with multiple variants.

This paper pertains to participation of young Athenian girls in rituals. Some researchers perceive these rites as initiation rites. The Athenian girls’ participation in rites-related duties shows how important they were not only for the Athenian girls, but also for women in general. The ritual was treated as a substitute of men’s public activity. We can divide the Athenian girls’ participation into two categories: rites in which they played the main role, and rites in which their role was auxiliary or simply marginal.

This paper is a non-conventional academic paper based on a live discussion organized by the Polish expert on Saudi women’s issues, Professor Anna Odrowaz-Coates (2015, 2016), which took place in The Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw, in June 2018. Two participating experts are known for their conflicting points of view on issues of security and integration of Muslims in Europe. In this exchange of viewpoints, they focussed on the issue of conversion to Islam in Poland and the UK, drawing upon multiple field research experiences they encountered. The main points of reference deal with the conversion of British prisoners whilst in prison and that of Polish women of diverse backgrounds. The impact of new media on the formation of public opinion, dissemination of faith and radicalization is also considered. The expert debate makes a significant contribution towards the socio-cultural and political discussion on culture clash versus coherence, integration and stability in a European context. It also concerns the use of new communication technology for the preservation of peace, radicalization and the elevation of moral panic

In this paper I write about two counterculture utopias: the vision contained in the songs of Lennon's Imagine and an extremely extensive synthesis Jeremy Rifkin, in which mirror neurons and – based on them – empathy play a leading role. I start with a presentation and a comparative analysis of these utopias. The first can be seen as a version of "mini", other than as a version of "maxi" similar worldview. This worldview is a synthesis of the hippie counterculture and the "new left" and can be described as the ideology of "political correctness". In conclusion, I will add a few critical remarks. Above all, I pointed out the serious consequences of the vision of a united humanity, deprived of property, national states and institutional religion.

Jedną z form zobiektywizowanej komunikacji werbalnej jest prasa; stanowi ona również ważny element w systemie komunikacji religijnej. Celem artykułu jest określenie wpływu kultury i komunikacji masowej na prasę religijną, w której zauważalne są cechy komunikacji masowej: depersonalizacja, manipulacja, udawanie nieodwołalności myśli etc. Liczne cechy kultury masowej przejawiały się w związ-kach pomiędzy mediami religijnymi a Internetem; kopiowanie informacji z innych publikacji; manipulacja; wykorzystywanie stereotypów i cytatów (głównym celem takiej manipulacji jest zastąpienie opinii czytelnika gotową odpowiedzią). Wiąże się to z kwestiami politycznymi i obecnością reklam w prasie religijnej. Wykorzystywanie no-wych form i metod religijnej komunikacji nie pozbawia jej podłoża mitologicznego oraz aktywnego używania zbiorowej i indywidualnej podświadomości (np. po-przez system archetypów).
One way of objectifying written verbal communication is the Press; it also constitutes an important part of religious communication system. The purpose of the article is to determine the influence of mass culture and communication on the religious press in which the features of mass communication are partly traceable: depersonalization, manipulation, the pretense to finality of thought etc. Various connections with mass culture manifested through connectivity of religious media and the Internet; copying information from other publications; manipulation, the use of stereotypes and citations (the main purpose of such manipulation is to replace the reader‘s opinion by a prepared re-sponse). These include the political issues and the presence of advertising in the religious press. The use of new forms and methods of religious communication does not deprive it of the mythological back-ground and active use of individual and collective unconscious (eg. through archetypes system).
