Opis:
The article is dedicated to the Polish colony in Manchuria, which came into being at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and lasted for over 50 years. In successive parts, the author discusses manifestations of cultural life of Poles in Manchuria. He concentrates mostly on Polish cultural institutions created by Poles, the magazines they published. The author points out the merits of some greatest representatives of the colony. The important role was also played by Polish Consulate in Harbin and its workers dedicated to their tasks. After the Second World War broke out, the situation of Polish community became more difficult, and the colony ceased to exist under communist regime in China. Poles left and material traces of their residence in Manchuria also ceased to exist.

Development of network technologies creates more and more friendly conditions contributing to the development of e-learning platforms. Thanks to simpler and more intuitive operation, e-learning platforms are applicable in the implementation of educational objectives among adult learners. E-platforms contribute to the integration and creation of cooperation networks among environments implementing common objectives, although they function in remote localizations. In the paper the opportunities of innovative applications of the e-learning Moodle platform was characterized. This platform was used to implement objectives connected with intercultural and intergenerational education in the process of Long Life Learning among Polish people living abroad. The aim of the implemented project was common development of innovative methodology of adult learners’ education in order to provide the high level of teaching with the application of e-learning solutions.

Opis:
The article discusses the self¬ stereotypes of Poles as presented in manuals for teaching Polish as a foreign language. The manuals which are designed for different levels of language proficiency are discussed here: Cześć, jak się masz? by W. Miodunka, Hurra!!! Po polsku 2 by A. Burkat, A. Jasińska, Hurra!!! Po polsku 3 by A. Burkat, A. Jasińska, M. Małolepsza, A. Szymkiewicz and Człowiek i jego świat w słowach i tekstach by A. Skudrzykowa and M. Kita. Elements of the stereotype of a Pole discussed in the article lead to an attempt at answering such questions as: how do Poles want to be seen? Is the stereotype of a Pole presented in manuals exaggerated or does it reflect the real image of Poles?

Polish community in South Korea „mixed families”
habits of Poles in South Korea
Opis:
First Poles that appeared on the Korean Peninsula towards the end of the 19th century and described their experiences were two scientists and travelers Jan Kalinowski and Władysław Kotowicz. The first writer who introduced Korea to Polish readers in the beginning of the 20th century was Wacław Sieroszewski. Nowadays, there are very few Poles in Korea (about 130): the number is changing constantly as most of them are students participating in lan-guage courses or Korean Studies, employees on temporary work contracts, wives of for-eigners working in Korea, Korean’s spouses, Catholic priests, Polish buddhist monks and lecturers at Korean universities. More or less regular meetings of Polish community in Korea are held on the occasion of Polish mass celebrated once a month by Pallottines. After the year 2000 the number of marriages between Poles and Koreans has grown, which re-sulted in the formation in the autumn of 2007 a club of Polish¬ Korean families called 7736 km.

Opis:
They Want to Change Us into Reliefs and Sculptures... This article discusses a role of war memorials in popularizing militarism, war bravery and the idea of dying for the homeland. Following Krzysztof Varga (a writer) and Krzysztof Wodiczko (a visual artist), the monumental structures of national memory become here a subject of critical reflection. They both show the deadly hypnotizing power of memorials over people. To this end, they create an oneiric reality, in which the sacred objects of national tradition come to life and “vampirize” the would-be patriots. The task of the hypnotic and critical style of interpreting memorials is, as it is proved, “to demilitarize” (“disarm”) our culture.
