    The article presents the philosophies of John Amos Comenius, Immanuel Kant and Maria Montessori. It focuses on problem areas that are particularly inspiring for modern thinking about peace and education for peace and points out a broad definition of peace provided by each of the above philosophers. Their theories go far beyond identifying peace with the absence of war and they consider peace to be a process that requires building and strengthening as well as the participation of all people, not only politicians. From this perspective, peace building becomes an important educational task. The basic goal is to ensure that individuals have the feeling of authorship and responsibility for peaceful coexistence among people. Only a combination of peace-reinforcing political initiatives with daily activities supported by education and aimed at promoting peace provides real chances to make the world a better place.

    Aims of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union are an aspiration to the world peace and a guarantee of outside safety and defenses for Member States of the Union, preventing military threats of all kinds and terrorist attacks, the promotion of European interests and shared „European” influence on the politics of states of world, especially in the peaceful international cooperation and observing human rights, according to the legal interpretation in the text of the Treaty on European Union. At the same time these aims cannot be interpreted as the substitute of the European world power status and the instrumentation of making independent the politics of both individual countries of Europe, and the European Union of the United States (of Russia, China, countries of the „Islamic civilization”), but should be spotted as the activity for the common wealth of Europeans and residents of other continents.

    Niniejsze rozważania ukierunkowane są przede wszystkim na ukazanie powiązań pomiędzy twórczością i pokojem. Są to w moim przekonaniu bardzo ważne zagadnienia pedagogiczne, przede wszystkim dlatego, iż podważają słuszność szeroko rozpowszechnionych poglądów, zgodnie z którymi kwestie wojny i pokoju znajdują się poza możliwościami wpływu zwykłego człowieka. Tymczasem, zgodnie z prezentowanymi w tekście koncepcjami (Montessori, Rowid), każda jednostka powinna być świadoma swojej indywidualnej mocy sprawczej w budowaniu pokojowego ładu w otaczającym ją świecie. Wytworzenie właściwych postaw i zaszczepienie człowiekowi poczucia odpowiedzialności w tym zakresie to jedne z najważniejszych zadań edukacji.
    The aim of these deliberations is primarily to show the relations between creativity and peace. In my opinion, these pedagogic issues are very important, especially because they challenge the commonly held views that an ordinary man in the street cannot have any influence on the issues of war and peace. In accordance with the concepts presented in the text (Montessori, Rowid), each person should be aware of their individual causative power in the creation of peaceful order in the surrounding world. The development of proper attitudes and instilling in a human the sense of responsibility in this regard are among the most significant educational tasks.

    The end of the First World War in Africa occurred at different times across the continent as the German colonies capitulated and surrendered to the allied forces between 26 August 1914 and 25 November 1918. The experience of each territory was indicative of its colonial development and local conditions. As the war inched across the landscape so people moved between states of peace and conflict, all caught up in some aspect either directly or through the provision of food and other materials. This chapter explores different experiences across the continent and the legacy of the discussions at Versailles.

    The contemporary man should recognize the safe being of states and the international peace (as well as one’s freedom) for axiological values, and at the same time he should have a sense of direction about ethnic and religious possible conflicts, which constitute the real danger of safe existence of residents of the European Union (and world’s). Peculiarly today the area of the Western Balkans worries because it is the most serious conflictual territory in Europe. Relatively numerous are also conflicts with the participation of the countries which belong to the Commonwealths of Independent States. therefore one should notice meaning of the European Union in taking many responsible initiatives for safe existence of her citizens.

    This essay examines the appearance of distrust, disinterest and aversion to politics and political participation in today’s democracies by taking the Kantian concept of a republican state into account. The goal is to find out reasons for the lack of interest in politics by investigating certain aspects in today’s democracies that might be not in compliance with the Kantian understanding of republicanism. The essay will start with an examination of the republican state and why it is mostly referred to as being much as the parliamentary democracy we know today. Then, these results will be compared with modern democracies (USA, Switzerland and Germany) in order to find the underlying reasons for the lack of interest in politics and how it might be possible to overcome it.

    The essay compares selected Kantian ideas stated in The Perpetual Peace with the institutions established by the Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of the International Court of Justice. The concept of a nation and its position in international law in view of the Charter will be presented and linked with the Kantian theory of sovereignty of Nations. The core of the paper is an afterthought on the supremacy of three separate powers over the Nations, hence the question of the rules of procedure held by the International Court of Justice will be regarded as the consequence of the idea of sovereign equality. The Kantian concept: "Nations, as states, may be judged like individuals”: (Kant, 1917, p. 128) is observed from the perspective of state’s demand for independence. The institution of the International Court of Justice is presented as a universal supreme body. The key issue of the essay is the federative character of union as a guarantee of eternal peace seen as common point in both of the documents discussed.

    The text discusses the play about the last hours of life of the Rosenbergs titled Julius and Ethel, the history of the trial, passing the sentence and the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenbergs carried out on June 19, 1953. Besides Senator Joseph Raymond McCarthy’s “witch-hunt”, this is the second most famous example of the American anti-communist atmosphere of the early 1950s, which led to the crisis of the democratic order and its institutions in the United States. The case took place at the beginning of the Cold War division of the world and the nuclear arms race, which put the world on the brink of selfdestruction. For the US radicals and the left-wing intellectuals, the Rosenbergs belonging to the US Communist Party are victims of the right-wing witch-hunt, creating anti-communist atmosphere, however they are also perceived as patrons of antiwar movements, precursors of the nuclear weapons opponents movement (the espionage, which they had never confessed to was to concern passing secrets about the US nuclear weapons programs to the Russians). For conservative America this will be a story about the efficiency of the legal, political and moral system facing a real threat in the fight against communism – dangerous for the entire civilized democratic world. How does the socialist realism work by Leon Kruczkowski appear against this background?

    The rise of modern international law as an autonomous scientific discipline in the early 1870s can be considered the culmination of multiple legal and extra-legal processes which trace their origins back to much earlier in the century. Several decades before the founders of the Institut de Droit International declared themselves the “legal conscience of the civilized world”, other societal groups had already expressed profound disaffection with the existing law of nations, which they viewed as inherently insufficient to guarantee lasting stability amongst civilized states. The conferences of the “Friends of Peace”, held between 1843 and 1851 in several European cities, featured many jurists who routinely employed legal modes of reasoning to communicate and advance legalistic objectives such as mandatory international adjudication and the codification of international law.
