Opis:
Purpose: Established professions and knowledge workers identify more with their professional groups than with their organisations. The purpose of the study was to find what kind of work-related identities are shown by clinical research sector employees in Poland, what is the intensity of those identities and which one is dominant. Methodology: The study started with qualitative interviews dedicated to professional changes and to work-related identity. The latter was selected for the main quantitative part of the study and its five types were defined related to the trained profession, the practised profession, organizational, relational and task-related work identities. Intensity of these pre-defined identities was tested with a use of a questionnaire completed by 147 representatives of the sector under study. Statistical analysis of the collected data verified the research hypotheses that assumed a certain gradation of these work-related identities. Results: Professional identity related to the practised occupation was placed on the highest level followed by task-related identity. Relational and organisational identities were classified on the third and fourth levels. Identity related to the trained occupation achieved the lowest score. The employing organization type had no effect on the manifested professional identity. Originality value: As a developing new occupation, the study group itself was an interesting population for studying work-related identity. Combining the qualitative and quantitative methods enabled evaluation of the results against the professional changes shaping the sector, which can have an impact on building the work-related identity of its employees.

The aim of the study was to present the relationship between attachment styles and the dimensions of identity development. The theoretical framework of current research constitutes: Attachment Theory by Bowlby (2007) as well as his followers (Bartholomew & Horowitz, 1991), and a concept of Identity Development in the Identity Status Paradigm (Brzezińska & Piotrowski, 2010), which is based on the Psychosocial Development Theory by Erikson (1997). The participants were 109 students from different universities and classes. The experiment was questionnairebased – the participants filled out the Dimensions of Identity Development Scale and the Relationship Questionnaire. The results suggested a relationship between anxious-avoidant and preoccupied attachment styles and specific dimensions of identity development.

Vital academic debates concerning national and regional identities have recently been conducted in the trans-disciplinary field of Tourism Studies, in the context of today’s identity-based economy. Tourist destinations compete on the market by promoting their place identities constructed in response to the needs and tastes of tourism consumers. Scotland, long preoccupied with her historically complicated cultural identity, is also involved in projecting a commodified regional identity. The following analysis of a sample of The Scots Magazine texts, approached here as elements of Scotland’s coordinated destination marketing, demonstrates the ascendancy of revived and discursively renewed wilderness as the dominant identity marker of the region.

Childhood is a unique period of life, and it has a fundamental influence on human being’s process of development. Knowledge and experience gathered by a child has a great impact on his/her behaviour and relations with others. Identity(ies) of the child, especially its social aspect, is shaped through the acting process, in a specific social space. It is the key to understanding mechanisms taking place between an individual and society. Its form and shape are determined by a society as well as an individual depending on his/her position in the social structure. What are the commonalities and differences between the world of children of vulnerable identity and those who are brought up in “healthy” family systems? They form a separate social group and are present in various types of discourse. However, their social situation is different, much more difficult ‒ their life stories are complicated, and their firsthand experience is much bigger. What are their chances of being included in the mainstream? The purpose of the article is to find the answer to the question

The aim of the article is to describe – on the example of teaching English – the reductionistic character of the testing phenomenon. Global international tests (TOEFL and TOEIC) provide excellent arguments to critics of the phenomenon of “testology”, related to reducing the school’s identity and student identity to results of test. An excellent example of this phenomenon is Japanese society. In Japan, where English is considered the cultural and professional capital of individuals, the paradoxes (and absurdities) of testing find their best exemplification. At the same time, the fact that English is completely different from Japanese results in contextualizing language tests in different, sometimes unexpected, cultural aspects of life. In addition, the controversy surrounding the testing of the English language proficiency in Japan is related to the discussion about cultural imperialism. All these issues will be analysed in the article, not only in the Japanese context but also in relation to whole “testing culture”.

Roles, fears, ideas, beliefs all influence behaviour. Strategic culture is an alternative way of explaining strategic behaviour, is a part of specific culture influence behaviour. Strategic culture is an integrated system of symbols (e.g. argumentation, structures, languages, analogies, metaphors) which acts to establish pervasive and long lasting strategic preferences by formulating concepts of the role and efficacy of military force in interstate political affairs, and by clothing these conceptions with such an aura of factuality that the strategic preferences seem uniquely realistic and efficacious. political, cultural and cognitive characteristics of the state and its elites. Therefore the EU as a multicultural space has one too. It may be the case that the EU strategic culture is a ‘weak’ strategic culture, a culture that is in the process of formation. The EU is expected to have a very special strategic culture because of its nature of foreign policy. State formation implied that the army had an important role to play in forming the identity of each state. However, the EU had no military and the emphasis on foreign policy was put on soft elements of external relations. Each state and security institution has a strategic culture as a part of cultural development. Different states have different predominant strategic preferences that are rooted in the early or formative experiences of the state and are influenced to some degree, by the philosophical, political, cultural and cognitive characteristics of the state and its elites.

Professional identity combines some elements of personal and social identity in the area of goals, values, principles and measures. The paper focuses on the reflection of ambiguity of creating teachers’ professional identity during educational reform. The new system of teachers’ professional advancement has been in place in Poland for more than ten years. We have conducted complex empirical research aimed at comprehensive evaluation of that system (teachers, heads of schools and local authorities were surveyed). The theoretical framework is constructed on the concepts of the contemporary narrative theories of Ch. Taylor, A. Giddens, P. Ricoeur. There is a yawning gap between the path of improvement of quality imposed by the formal requirements of the system and the needs and educational aims formulated by teachers themselves, stemming from their everyday practice. The research provided important implication for educational policy, such as: a necessity for combining statutory requirements with particular school needs and teachers’ individual development.

Opis:
Artykuł stanowi zmodyfikowaną wersję pracy licencjackiej napisanej przeze mnie w roku 2015, której promotorem był dr hab. Bogusław Paź.
The main aim of this paper is to reconstruct G. W. Leibniz’s view on nature and structure of human identity. For this purpose selected writings of the author and of several other philosophers whose impact on his conclusion was the most noticeable are exploited. Analysis of these sources in relation to Leibniz’s whole monadological system provides us with the explication of human identity in his anthropology. In the first part the author concentrates on the historical background of a reflection on the notion of nature, which in Leibniz’s philosophy constitutes the basis of human identity. The Hanoverian philosopher, as the author claims, continues Aristotle’s thought on this issue. Afterwards a basic individual being – monad – is presented. Through the monad the German philosopher managed to unite two – seemingly opposing – perspectives: substancial (aristotelism) with “consciously-reflective”, which is synonymous with Descartes’ cogito. In the second part the author introduces the concept of the human person, which indicates such features as rationality, substantiality and individuality. From the latter flows such characteristics of personhood as uniqueness, distinctiveness and incommunicability. Even though this classical interpretation of the person was deconstructed by Descartes, the author shows that the monadic subject did not lose the attributes Leibniz’s processors wrote about. In the third part the author presents John Locke’s interpretation of the human identity described in his opus magnum – An essay concerning human understanding, in opposition to which Leibniz developed his own theory. In the fourth part the structure of human identity in the interpretation of the German is presented. The author of this paper particularly focuses on the characteristics of its two dimensions: real identity and moral identity. At the end, in the fifth part, the epistemological foundation of Leibniz’s anthropology: perception, apperception and reflection, its specifics and the relation to two levels of human identity presented in Nouveaux essais sur l’entendement humain are explored.

As social network sites are becoming more populated and users more diverse, impression management on these sites has become more complicated. Users face challenges as they attempt to perform a unified identity to a diverse audience. The article discusses some of the strategies Hungarian teenage users of Facebook apply to deal with this situation. Drawing on data coming from two focus group interviews and a representative survey (N = 612) with Hungarian secondary school students, strategies of selecting ‘friends’, curating posts, blocking and deleting ‘friends’ and creating double profiles on Facebook are discussed. It is concluded that there are significant differences in the use of these strategies according to different user groups as off-line inequalities influence online impression management in different ways.
