    The primary goal of the study is to assess the perception of self and the social environment in Polish teenagers from the so-called generation 1.5 in Germany, that is, people who moved to Germany as children and adolescents, accompanying adult immigrants. The secondary goal was to compare this group with teenagers of Polish origin born and socialised in Germany. The instruments of corpus linguistics such as listing of keywords and limited keyword-based contextual analysis were applied to analyse a corpus of 37 essays by respondents aged 13–17 and attending courses of the Polish language and culture in Regensburg and Munich, on the topic “German school, Polish home. People, cultures, languages and the role of Polish in my life.” A considerable difference occurred between both groups. Teenagers from Poland cast their essays in a narrative form reporting the process of immigration, their daily struggle for social adaptation, and their hopes for future improvement. The reports exposed tension and struggle caused by the difficulty to reach the intended goals, such as adequate school achievement, social acceptance and maintenance of bonds with Poland. Teenagers born in Germany cast their reports prevailingly in a static or iterative form, viewing themselves as exceptional in a positive sense, and took pride in their bilingualism and biculturalism. The analysis also revealed different roles played by attending the Polish classes in both groups.

    The paper deals with the problem of the limits of the television created worlds which determine cultural identities of blurred cultural and medial borderlines. The concept of a border in cultural-and-medial space is seen in this paper as a communicational, negotiable game. What I offer here is a review of the ways television viewers can be able to trespass the television-set limits, how they can create virtual communities and cultural identities. My perspective is basically Polish, based on analyses of Polish communication practices.

    The paper puts forward the difficult issue of cultural steering. The author draws attention to potential threats that might result from this process. The main dangers include steering by technocracy, manipulation of information, psychological strain to individuals. A strong technological and technocratic determinism arises and influences the politics, social bonds, human personality, because it changes the essence of man. Further he argues we must consider unpredictable threats stemming from the fact that what is “naturally human,” is steered into something “artificially human” with no concept of possible far-reaching consequences.

    Cyberprzestrzeń to dziś miejsce dla międzyludzkich interakcji rozgrywających się na poziomie czasem zwodniczo symulującym komunikację w rzeczywistości offline, a czasem nawet ją przewyższającym, zwłaszcza pod względem przyzwolenia na dowolność kształtowania swojej tożsamości. Internet ciągle pozostaje wyzwaniem dla nauk społecznych: nie poznaliśmy go bowiem na tyle dobrze, na ile to możliwe. Internet różnicuje się w znacznej mierze „samodzielnie”, a jego oblicze kreowane jest przez internautów oddolnie i często nie wykazuje najmniejszych powiązań z rzeczywistością kulturową świata offline. Tym samym mówić możemy o cyberprzestrzeni jako o rzeczywistości, która dziś stała się podłożem tworzenia elastycznych tożsamości za pomocą elastycznych narzędzi właściwych komunikacji zapośredniczonej przez komputery. Przyjrzyjmy się specyfice internetu oraz ponowoczesnemu modelowaniu tożsamości i zastanówmy się, czy sieć warto badać, traktując ją priorytetowo i postrzegając jako część ongoing reality – przedłużenie fizycznego świata – czy warto badać fenomeny, takie jak formowanie się ludzkiej tożsamości, w cyberprzestrzeni.
    Cyberspace has become a place for interpersonal interaction, which can simulate direct communication known from the real world or even surpass it, especially in terms of freedom to shape our own identity. Although the Internet still remains a challenge for the social sciences cyberspace differentiates itself mostly independently from the physical world, by the agency of its users and without the influence of offline world cultural reality. Thus, we can talk about cyberspace as a reality, which today has become the ground to create flexible identity by using flexible tools of Computer- Mediated Communication. In this paper, we’ll look at the specificities of the Internet and the postmodern way to create individual and flexible identities and we’ll consider whether the network should be examined treating it as a priority of every single research, or as a background of studies on the cultural and social phenomena, such as the formation of individual identity in cyberspace.

    The paper examines the presence of Aboriginal art, its contact with colonial and federation Australian art to prove that silencing of this art from the official identity narrative and art histories also served elimination of Aboriginal people from national and identity discourse. It posits then that the recently observed acceptance and popularity as well as incorporation of Aboriginal art into the national Australian art and art histories of Australian art may be interpreted as a sign of indigenizing state nationalism and multicultural national identity of Australia in compliance with the definition of identity according to Anthony B. Smith.

    W referacie został podjęty temat trzech kluczowych dla twórczości Marii Komornickiej zagadnień: ciała, ducha i płci. Dwa pierwsze tematy ściśle się ze sobą łączą, dlatego początkowe akapity dotyczą ich obu. Na podstawie tych refleksji wysnuto wnioski dotyczące obrazu płci w twórczości autorki. Pojęcie to jest analizowane zarówno w kontekście młodopolskiego dyskursu płci, jak i – z perspektywy nowoczesnych metodologii: krytyki feministycznej oraz studiów genderowych i queerowych. Referat ma na celu zachęcenie odbiorcy reinterpretowania dorobku Komornickiej z punktu widzenia współczesnej świadomości.
    This paper concerns three significant concepts in Maria Komornicka’s writings: body, spirit and gender. The first two are closely related to each other, thus initial paragraphs are devoted to them both. On the basis of these reflections, I draw some conclusion about the image of gender created by the poet. The notion of gender is analysed in terms of Young Poland discourse of gender and from the perspective of modern methodologies: feminist criticism as well as gender and queer studies. This paper aims at encouraging the reader to reinterpret M. Komornicka’s output with contemporary awareness.
