Opis:
The article entitled “'Superreal images for SUPERREAL People.' Black Self-Representation as Self-Invention in Poetry and Visual Art of the Black Arts Movement: The Wall of Respect” provides an analysis of the representation of African Americans by Black Arts Movement poets and visual artists involved in making the Wall of Respect, the most famous Black Power mural. Resisting, challenging and rejecting the controlling white gaze, through their verbal and visual acts of self-representation, they made an attempt to achieve a “better and truer self” for American blacks, which resulted in black myth-making and self-invention. That phenomenon is explored here through an examination of the history, legend and aesthetics of the mural, which is approached as a multimedia Poem of the People, whose interplay of various artistic forms of expression is aimed at liberation from the oppressiveness of white cultural hegemony, achieving “visibility,” and practicing “truly black” image-making. More specifically, special attention is given to its literary component – Amiri Baraka's poem “SOS,” which is embedded in the mural, and two poems entitled “The Wall,” written for that occasion by Haki Madhubuti and Gwendolyn Brooks, the latter poem read at the opening ceremony by its author. Detailed reading of the poems demonstrates how the written/spoken word assisted and enhanced visual black self-invention and projected-cum-generated a sense of togetherness and collective identification by creating an ultra-positive image of “new blacks,” and stigmatizing “negro toms” who stood for old-fashioned integrationism. Also, through condensed references to theories pertaining to the nature of image, visual representation and the power of the gaze (by Plato, Heidegger, Sartre and Lacan), put together with concepts of African American culture and expression (Houston Baker Jr.'s “the Black (W)hole” and Robert Stepto's “immersion”), philosophical aspects of the Black Arts Movement's artistic strategy of black self-invention as well as its limitations are explored.

Opis:
Africa at one time was referred to as the wretched of the earth primarily because of the simple reason and belief that the continent is devoid of civilization, science and technology. Any intellectual and a right thinking individual would agree with this position that civilization is not relative or connected or tied to the west-Europe and America, or any other culture at that. What “Civilization” actually means is that it is the conventional way in which a group of people live their lives. It amounts to their religions, politics, norms and values, cultural disposition, interpersonal relation etc. It is pertinent to comprehend this distinction because it often erroneously believed when the term “civilization” is used the first thing that comes in to the minds of many is that civilization has to do with Modernity, the way of life of the white man, Science and Technology etc. Civilization can be best referred to as the way of life of a group of people, or a society that has a definite, systematic, consistent and organised ways of living their lives or co-existence. It is against this backdrop that this paper is presented, to inter alia, attempt to clarify the meaning of civilization and which group of people that can be regarded or referred to as civilized or not civilized. This exposition, hence, will consider those parameters that translate to civilization such as culture, tradition, norms, values, and festivals, ancestral worship etc. especially of the African people with particular attention on Nigerian in juxtaposition with other practices that are considered to be best world practices. This evaluation is necessitated by the fact that there is a need to explore the potentiality and actualization of the black African heritage and be in the position to judge whether or not the African culture can be on the same pedestal with other world cultures and civilizations that are regarded as most recognised and accepted conventions.

Opis:
Latour’s Black Box is a dynamic gateway that segregates the continuum of scientific processes into those that occur before and after a certain critical point: the shift from ‘science in the making’ to ‘ready made science’. For reasons that will be explored in this paper, the field of data science does not appear to follow a unidirectional heuristic in the way that technologies transition from ‘in the making’ to ‘ready made’. This paper is a theoretical analysis of the extent to which the fundamental technologies of data science either violate or adhere to this heuristic. If data science does not follow a unidirectional heuristic, is there any evidence as to the causes of this dynamic and, furthermore, are the limitations, as they may exist, a function of technological advancement or a function of the theoretical limits of the field of data science itself?

The text is an attempt to present lesser-known plot interpretations of the Matrix series (both film trilogy and anime Animatrix) movies. The author uses various research perspectives (religio-mystical, political and socio-economic ones) to present possible ways of interpretation of particular motifs and characters, referring among others to mystical beliefs, Gnostic ideas and the tradition of initiation novel, but also to contemporary popular culture regarding films and science fiction novels. The analysis contains as well socio-political issues touched upon in the movie; moreover on the example of Anonymous Group activities the author reveals the way Matrix series still influences contemporary culture.

Opis:
In this paper, we propose some derivative designed for small stock investors. Using the Black-Scholes model we derive an explicit formula for the price of the derivative, computing its discounted expected payoff. The payoff is modelled on the payoff of the catastrophe bonds, random occurrence of a natural disaster is replaced by a random stock price falling. Different variants of the proposed derivative are obtained by introducing a parameter to the payoff of the derivative. By Monte Carlo method, to reduce the risk of large losses associated with the investment, indicated the variant of this instrument, appropriate to selected typical values of volatility of considered stock.

Opis:
Adrienne Kennedy’s psychodrama Funnyhouse of a Negro personifies in her protagonist, Sarah, the internalized racism and mental deterioration that a binary paradigm foments. Kennedy also develops the schizoid consciousness of Sarah to accentuate Sarah’s hybridized and traumatized identity as an African American woman. Kennedy’s play was controversial during the Black Arts Movement, as she refrained from endorsing black nationalist groups like Black Power, constructing instead a nightmare world in which race is the singular element in defining self-worth. In her dramatized indictment of both white supremacy and identity politics, American culture’s pathologized fascination with pigmentation drives the protagonist to solipsistic isolation, and ultimately, to suicide. Kennedy, through the disturbed cast of Sarah’s mind, portrays a world in which race obsession triumphs over any sense of basic humanity. The play urges the audience to accept the absurdity of a dichotomized vision of the world, to recognize the spectral nature of reality, and to transcend the devastation imposed by polarizing rhetoric.

Opis:
Artykuł opisuje cechy radykalnego nacjonalizmu rosyjskiego na terytorium ziem ukraińskich w XX wieku. Niejednorodność wśród rosyjskich środowisk nacjonalistycznych jest nadal kwestią kontrowersyjną. Podstawę klasyfikacji metod zwalczania przedstawicieli tych nacjonalistycznych ruchów dla realizacji ideologicznych stanowisk i rzeczywistych idei nacjonalistycznych w państwie rosyjskim, stanowi typologia rodzaju działania. Autor przeanalizował działania rosyjskich radykalnych prawicowych organizacji. Dużą uwagę przywiązuje do podstawowych idei radykalnego nacjonalizmu rosyjskiego i przyczyn ich dystrybucji wśród ludności ukraińskiej.
The body of the article goes on to discuss the features of the radical Russian nationalism in the Ukrainian territory in the early twentieth century. Diversity among Russian nationalist circles remains a controversial issue. The basis of our classification of methods to combat the representatives of the nationalist ideological currents for the implementation of provisions and own nationalist ideas in the Russian state, is the typology of the nature of the action. The author analyzes the activity of Russian radical right-wing organizations. Much attention is paid to the basic ideas of radical Russian nationalism and the reasons for their dissemination among the Ukrainian population.
