Opis:
Divine violence, says Walter Benjamin in his Critique of Violence, is “the sign and seal but never the means of sacred execution.” A Ukrainian writer Serhiy Zhadan in his 2015 collection of poetry and translations The Life of the Virgin Mary, frames his narrative of the war in Donbas as dystopia with divine violence being the driving force. The text also problematizes the possibility of a dialogue as the means to stop subjective violence.
Boska przemoc jest, jak twierdzi Walter Benjamin w Krytyce Przemocy: znakiem i pieczęcią, ale nigdy środkiem świętej egzekucji. Ukraiński pisarz i poeta Serhij Żadan w wyda- nym w 2015 roku zbiorze poezji i przekładów pt. Żywot Maryi, wkomponowuje swą narrację o wojnie w Donbasie jako dystopii w ramy owej boskiej przemocy, stanowiącej jej siłę napędową. W tekście przedmiotem refleksji uczyniono także możliwość dialogu jako środ- ka powstrzymującego subiektywną przemoc.

This article is a case study of the process of mobilization to violence on the internet. The goal of this paper was to identify a select number of factors within the narrative on the topic of modern immigration that can be found on the internet and analyze them using the theoretical constructs that can be found in the literature on this subject. The scientists that study genocide have identified several factors commonly found in historically documented events that must be present in order for genocide to occur. In this paper the author will refer to works of scientists such as Helen Fein, Manus I. Midlarsky, Lech M. Nijakowski. The author of the paper analyzed the content published on the internet that deals with the topic of immigration. The materials selected for research contained topics that treat the subject of accepting refugees from outside of Europe, their process of assimilation and the way they coexist with the local population. The analysis was based on content in the Polish language which includes both materials that were created in Polish and those that were originally in a different language and then were remade with Polish footnotes. The content for the study was selected from among the following sources: propaganda movies which spread on the internet through social media, short unscientific propaganda and informational articles and finally memes (pictures with short footnotes). Factors that were analyzed in the following article: 1) Universe of obligation, construct created by Helen Fein. 2) Conspiratory discourse, described by Lech Nijakowski. 3) Utility and parasitism; discourse referring to them. 4) Two conditions necessary to instigate genocide, described by Manus I. Midlarsky. 5) Discourse on the topic of immoral sexual actions described by the author based on the theory of discourses created by Lech Nijakowski. During the study all the aforementioned factors have been identified. The author described the examples analyzed, interpreted them and subsequently matched them to the categories described above. It was determined that within those examples we can distinguish a number of factors that match the elements of mobilizing the population to violence. The article closes with an analysis of potential consequences of the phenomena described.

Violence is one of the biggest problem in Poland. In the context of demographic changes comes speed elderly people populaction growth. It causes growth of ill-treating them. This article include an opinion poll implement on 343 aged people. This opinion poll confirms that bulling occures. What matters now is reduction issue of ill-treating towards seniors and more effective discovering and solving this problem which is a taboo subject. This article shows results of local operations that improves situation of elderly people who are violence-stricken.

This article refers to the phenomenon of domestic violence examined from the point of view of cultural factors and in the context of negative predispositions of particular social actors to undertake actions motivated by their need for power and domination over others. These issues were analysed in three thematic sketches, which relate to violence against men, women and children. Particularly noteworthy is the first group of recipients of violent behaviour. Violence toward men is in fact a phenomenon so far definitely marginalized in public discourse or even considered to be non-existent. In many cases, it is treated as a kind of cultural schizophrenia of the male social role. Therefore it requires more detailed analysis of the research, however while maintaining the necessary criticism realistically taking into account significance of violence experienced by men as a social problematic issue, not a media sensation and competitive issue in relation to the violent behaviour towards women and children.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania satysfakcji z życia przeprowadzonego w 2014 r. wśród losowo wybranych dzieci w wieku 8, 10 i 12 lat uczęszczających do szkół podstawowych w województwie wielkopolskim. Celem badania było porównanie subiektywnej oceny jakości życia dzieci doświadczających i niedoświadczających przemocy ze strony rówieśników. Dokonano podziału uczestników badania ze względu na rodzaj doświadczanej przemocy — fizycznej (bicie) i relacyjnej (odtrącanie). Do oceny jakości życia wykorzystano skale psychometryczne: OLS (Overall Life Satisfaction), SLSS (Student Life Satisfaction Scale) i BMSLSS (Brief Multidimensional Student Life Satisfaction Scale). Porównano średnie wartości wymienionych wskaźników dla dzieci doświadczających i niedoświadczających przemocy według wieku. Do oceny statystycznej istotności różnic zastosowano test t-Studenta. Ponadto skonfrontowano stan posiadania niektórych dóbr w obu grupach uczestników badania oraz porównano poziom zadowolenia z niektórych elementów składających się na jakość życia. Badanie wykazało, że satysfakcja z życia dzieci bitych i odtrącanych maleje wraz z wiekiem szybciej niż w przypadku pozostałych dzieci. Jednym z czynników wpływających na to jest gorsza sytuacja materialna dzieci doświadczających przemocy. Kolejny czynnik to własny wygląd, przy czym nabiera on znaczenia w starszych grupach wieku.
The article presents the results of a research on the life satisfaction, conducted in 2014, among randomly selected children aged 8, 10 and 12, attending primary schools in Wielkopolskie voivodship. The aim of this research is to compare the subjective assessment of the life quality of children experiencing and not experiencing peer violence. Division of the participants was conducted due to the type of experienced violence — physical (beating) and emotional (rejection). Psychometric scales such as OLS (Overall Life Satisfaction), SLSS (Student Life Satisfaction Scale) and BMSLSS (Brief Multidimensional Student Life Satisfaction Scale) were used to evaluate the quality of the examined children life. The mean values of the above-mentioned indicators for children experiencing and not experiencing violence according to age were compared. The Student’s t-test was used to evaluate the significance of differences. Moreover, the state of certain goods possession in both groups of participants was confronted as well as the level of satisfaction with some aspects of life quality was compared. The research has shown that life satisfaction of beaten and discarded children decreases with age faster than other children. One of the factors impacting such results is the worse financial situation of children experiencing violence. Another factor is appearance, but it becomes more important in older age groups.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to review the possible causes of violence against women by their male partners. The paper presents statistical analyses conducted among male prisoners and draws on selected scientific theories to study the determinants of the discussed phenomenon. The conclusions drawn from the research allow us to draw a portrait of the perpetrator, to identify areas of preventive measures and suggest further research on the topic.

The article presents research on the family violence prevention system family from the perspective of social assistance. The position of social welfare and the role of social worker in this system are discussed. A specific social position and the key role of social worker in the system of prevention of violence have been confirmed. Study also shows the diversity of the system preventing domestic violence, which differs depending on the size of the municipality. In smaller communities, it is based primarily on the social workers and in the larger communties it is largely supported by other professionals: psychologists and lawyers.

Virginia Woolf describes her artistic goal in The Waves as an attempt to create “an abstract mystical eyeless book.” Yet, in creating her eyeless book, one that eschews a single narrative perspective, Woolf amasses abundant visual details. For each of her six characters, visual images mark significant moments of being. In fact, Woolf emphasizes the characters’ capacity for sight as a vulnerability that allows them to be violated and wounded over and over. This article analyzes connections between visual imagery and themes of violence in the novel to demonstrate how they cohere into an extended metaphor for the ways in which acts of looking can elicit powerful emotions that threaten to fragment individual identity in painful ways. While Woolf’s novel has received critical commentary that focuses on the role of vision in the narrative and critics have also noted how violence in the text supports other themes, the explicit relationship between sight and violence has not yet been fully explored. A close examination of the visual imagery in key scenes of the novel demonstrates how Woolf engages the reader to participate in the characters’ deepening sense of fragmentation as they are repeatedly assaulted by experience, as the eyes themselves become symbols of the twin dynamics of desire and destruction.

Social maladjustment and juvenile delinquency is currently a serious worldwide problem, which is of interest not only to researchers and theoreticians, but also to society. This is due to the constantly growing scale of this phenomenon. It is worth noting that a steady increase in the number of juvenile crimes has been observed in Poland since 1990. Researchers presume that this is related to dynamic civilizational development, urbanization and technological progress, among others. It would seem that everything about juvenile delinquency has already been established; however, effective methods to counteract it still remain to be found. We are increasingly experiencing unjustified cases of violence at school, home as well as in public places, and teenage gangs can be found in most major cities. Hundreds of thousands of young people become victims of serious neglect, sexual violence and physical abuse every year.

The article is devoted to an issue of shaping and evolution of convictions in aggressive behaviors. Convictions, as quite stable cognitive structures, do not change easily under influence of experiences. However, their influence on a person’s behavior depends above all on the way of interpretation of an event and a role played in an aggressive event. In order to illustrate the described issue, we chose a narrative (case study). On the basis of autobiographical narrative interview, experiences were reconstructed, which were influencing a shaping of convictions connected with aggressive behaviors, as well as variability, depending on a role undertaken in an aggressive behavior.

Digital security is an extensive subject, part of which is the safe use of modern technology, including such forms of new media as the Internet, television and video games. The main psychological threat posed by information and communication technology, is the problem of violence in the media, including electronic aggression. The article presents studies on the effect of watching violence on television and in films, playing in violent video games, and being a victim or perpetrator of electronic aggression. The possible consequences were indicated, and highlighted the role of education in preventing negative effects of technological progress.

Over 40 years ago the French Research Committee on Violence, Crime and Delinquency published a document that contained current analyses on the occurrence of social problems and their determinants, as well as guidelines to reduce risks and reduce the sense of threat and insecurity in modern society. The document became the basis for the reflection on public debate on violence in international communities and psychological practice against violence in both interpersonal and wider social relations. The combination of the individual and the social perspective gives a chance to criticise and rethink the guidelines suggested by the Committee from the point of view of such issues as community responsibility, individual rights and the current state in psychological and social care against violence. Special attention was paid to ten recommendations.

The presented article takes up the subject of conflict and violence involving elderly residents of social care homes for chronically ill. Firstly, it discusses the legal regulations appropriate to these situations, to further evaluate these regulations and recommend improvements, based on qualitative research conducted in three social care homes in Podlasie. Particular attention was payed to changes in legal regulations regarding placing residents in care homes, legally expanding the staff’s rights with regard to preventing aggression, filling staff vacancies in care homes, investments in improving staff qualifications, improving communication and information regarding payments for care services, improving the image of the institutions and mutual respect, and thought-through distribution of residents within the facility.
