    Article presents an approach to the national security in the National Security Strategy developed in Spain in 2013. Indicates the scope of the strategy, which are strategic objectives, complexity and uniqueness of security risks and threats. These are the basic values, which represent a suffix to the strategic lines of action, and the need to reflect the planning and operational rules. To illustrate this situation the strategy presents the environment of strategy - the surrounding area and the position of Spain - relationships - in the world. Risks and threats characteristics is the basis aim for developing an action plan towards respond to diagnosed risk and threat. Summary strategic actions for security action is to establish a National Security System, which will be executed by the Government.

    The purpose of this article is to compare constitutional regulations of marriage in Polish and Spanish legal systems. Both Polish and Spanish Constitutions emphasise the difference of sex between spouses and define marriage as a relationship between man and woman. Despite this, same-sex marriage has been legal in Spain since 2003, wheareas in Poland no regulations have been implemented in this area until now.

    War on Memorials in Catalonia. What to Do with Commemoration of the Battle of the Ebro The article discusses the conflicts taking place in public life over interpretation of the significance of places of national memory. The author presents them on the example of the dispute that arose in Spain over a memorial in the Catalan city of Tortosa. It commemorates the Battle of the Ebro, the military operation of the largest scale and consequences during the Spanish Civil War. The opponents of the memorial consider it as a testimony to the victory of Francoism and an unsightly and disgraceful element in the urban tissue. They appeal for its liquidation, while those arguing for its preservation and reinterpretation of the symbolic meaning treat it as an architecturally valuable distinguishing feature of the city. The fate of the controversial memorial does not rest solely in the hands of local authorities, but it has become a subject of political disagreement, disputes among residents and non-governmental activities. They are taking place against a background of the current legal basis of historical memory (Law 52/2007 of 26 December), which was developed by the political Left to compensate for the harm done to the victims of the Civil War and the Francoist dictatorship, and to implement changes in public space in connection with the traces of Francoism. However, its content leaves quite a big decision-making margin to the public authorities as to removing the traces of the regime from reinterpretation.

    This paper presents the television coverage of a terrorist attack during the 2008 election campaign in Spain. The starting point is that in media systems known as polarised pluralist, issues are usually framed through the lenses of electoral competition, portrayed from the point of view of political parties. Analysis shows that even in the case of important issues such as terrorism, the dynamics of polarised pluralism bias its coverage, offering different versions of events to citizens. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje relacje telewizyjne po ataku terrorystycznym, który miał miejsce podczas kampanii wyborczej w Hiszpanii w 2008 roku. Punktem wyjścia jest stwierdzenie, że w systemach medialnych określanych jako „spolaryzowany pluralizm” poszczególne tematy ujmowane są przez media w ramy konkurencji wyborczej i przedstawiane z perspektywy stanowisk poszczególnych partii politycznych. Analiza pokazuje, że nawet w przypadku kwestii wyjątkowo istotnych, takich jak terroryzm, dynamika spolaryzowanego pluralizmu wykrzywia przekaz w taki sposób, iż do odbiorców kierowane są odmienne wersje wydarzeń

    Artykuł poświęcony jest językowi baskijskiemu, którego własną nazwą jest euskera, nie w kategoriach lingwistycznych, ale życia społecznego w kontekście należącej do państwa hiszpańskiego Autonomii Kraju Basków. Jest to endemiczny język, który nie należy do grupy języków romańskich, ani nawet indoeuropejskich i w przeciwieństwie do pozostałych języków mniejszościowych pozostaje w Hiszpanii całkowicie niezrozumiały dla tych, którzy się go nie uczyli. Wobec zawodności pozostałych świadectw tożsamości, takich jak baskijskie nazwiska czy przywiązanie do ziemi, umiejętność sprawnego posługiwania się euskera stanowi podstawowy wyróżnik symboliczny baskijskiej tożsamości oraz sposób na jej uwiarygodnienie wśród pobratymców. W tradycji tego języka ma miejsce konflacja znaczeniowa dotycząca pojęcia euskaldunak, które odnosi się zarówno do Basków, jak i osób posługujących się euskera. Jak pokazuje artykuł, fakt ten stanowi nie tylko o jego kardynalnym znaczeniu dla baskijskości, podtrzymaniu jej we wspólnocie i rozpoznania swoich od obcych, ale nawet utożsamianiu znajomości euskera z przynależnością do baskijskiej wspólnoty etnicznej.
    The article is dedicated to euskera, i.e. the native language spoken by the Basques. The major focus is not on its linguistic but social aspects in the context of the Basque Autonomous Community which forms a part of the Spanish state. It is an endemic language which does not belong to the Romance languages and not even to Indo-European language group. As opposed to other minority languages in Spain, it is completely incomprehensible in Spain to the ones who have not studied it. Due to fallibility of other indicators of identity, such as Basque names or being attached to the fatherland, the ability to communicate effectively in euskera constitutes a fundamental symbolic marker of identity and provides the way to prove it to the Basque compatriots. In this language tradition there is a conflation of meaning concerning the term euskaldunak, referred both to Basques and individuals who display the ability to speak euskera. The article shows that this language is not only cardinal when it comes to Basqueness, preserving it in the community and distinguishing us from them, but even equating linguistic capacity with belonging to the Basque ethnic group.
