- It is a deep-seated belief that marriage plays an important role in contributing to happiness or success in life which is in this essay understood as the coexistence within the institutions of marriage and family. In an attempt to find a “recipe for marital happiness,” there have been expressed popular views that a successful life, a good husband or wife, just like in the lottery, depend on good luck and happy coincidence, and are independent of the knowledge and the will of the persons concerned. The concept of happiness encompasses subjective feelings, aspirations, expectations and experiences of an individual. To develop one’s own definition of happiness, one has to look more deeply into oneself. This idea became my main motivation to conduct research using biographical methods. This paper presents an analysis of the collected research material.
