    The article is discussing both challenges and problems that emerge from an intensified cross-border integration, particularly in Europe, which is creating a sort of ‘cross-border regionalism’ that might be sought as a new constituent part of a complex, multi-level system of governance incorporating not only national, but also local/regional agents. Cross-border regionalism is thus not only a system of government, but also a system of ‘grass-rooted’ social and spatial (re)integration of borderlands. This process is closely related to the question of changing territoriality, preserving on the one hand the regional control and on the other hand re-acting societal and territorial co-dependence.

    The article is the result of research conducted by the authors in the project The International Cooperation for Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Refugee in Turkey and Europe supported by Erasmus+ Programme and aimed at creating an innovative model of rehabilitation and integration of refuge women (implemented by the University of Gaziantep, Turkey) based on the experiences of partner countries. The aim of the article is to analyse the specificity of mechanisms and integration models used in work with refugee women. Issues such as migration, legal status of refugee women, EU integration policy or European support programmes for refugee in the context of gender were examined using mixed research methods. The analysis was conducted from a transdisciplinary perspective: political, legal, social, anthropological and gender perspective. Artykuł jest wynikiem badań prowadzonych przez autorki w projekcie The International Cooperation for Rehabilitation and Social Integration of Refugee in Turkey and Europe realizowanym w ramach programu Erasmus+ i mającym na celu stworzenie innowacyjnego modelu rehabilitacji i integracji uchodźczyń (wdrażanego przez Uniwersytet Gaziantep, Turcja) na podstawie doświadczeń krajów partnerskich. Celem artykułu jest analiza specyfiki mechanizmów i modeli integracji stosowanych w pracy z kobietami uchodźczyniami. Zawarte w artykule zagadnienia, takie jak: migracje, prawny status uchodźczyń, polityka integracyjna UE czy programy pomocowe w kontekście kwestii gender, zostały zbadane przy zastosowaniu mieszanych schematów badawczych. Analiza została przeprowadzona z perspektywy transdyscyplinarnej: w ujęciu politologicznym, prawnym, społecznym, antropologicznym i genderowym.

    Przez wiele stuleci osoby z defektami cielesnymi lub umysłowymi postrzegane były jako należące do gorszej kategorii, a nawet niegodne życia. Takie postawy wygenerowały szereg stereotypów stanowiących podstawę dyskryminacji. Chrześcijaństwo wprawdzie zmieniło ogólne nastawienie do tych osób, jednak w praktyce różnice były niewielkie: pogardę zastąpiła litość, co rozwinęło bogate tradycje żebractwa opartego na miłosierdziu i jałmużnie, wpisane w główne nakazy tej religii. Rzeczywiste zmiany ukierunkowane na integrację osób niepełnosprawnych to dopiero ubiegłe stulecie, przy czym w różnych krajach przybierały one różne tempo, czasem następował całkowity regres, tak jak miało to miejsce w Niemczech nazistowskich. W Polsce dążenie do integracji osób niepełnosprawnych poprzez ich edukację i rehabilitację rozpoczęło się już w okresie międzywojennym, a lata PRL-u te działania mocno zintensyfikowały. Jednak dopiero po roku 1989 rozwinęła się polityka prointegracyjna, ukierunkowana nie tylko na edukację i rehabilitację, ale również na rzeczywistą i kompleksową normalizację warunków życia niepełnosprawnych, zespoloną z równoczesnymi działaniami mającymi na celu kształtowanie świadomości osób niepełnosprawnych oraz modyfikowanie postaw wobec ich problemów. Wysiłki te, podejmowane w kontekście światowych zmian w percepcji potrzeb i możliwości osób niepełnosprawnych, sprawiają, że integracja staje się coraz bardziej widoczna we wszystkich obszarach społecznego funkcjonowania, tj. w szkole, na uczelni, w zakładzie pracy, na ulicy, w sąsiedztwie, kinie itp. Natomiast wciąż jeszcze nierozwiązane pozostają kontrowersyjne kwestie aksjologiczne, odsuwane lub zupełnie pomijane zarówno w opracowaniach specjalistycznych, jak i dyskursie społecznym. Ostatni etap procesów integracyjnych, który nazywam postintegracyjnością, to czas zajęcia się tymi kwestiami, upubliczniania ich i szukania optymalnych rozwiązań. W opracowaniu tym przedstawiłam trzy tego typu kwestie, tj. seksualność osób niepełnosprawnych, aborcję płodów uszkodzonych i prawo do pomocy w zakończeniu życia osobom niezdolnym fizycznie do takiego działania.
    For many centuries, people with physical and mental disabilities were regarded as an inferior species who did not even deserve to live. Such attitudes led to the emergence of a number of stereotypes, which gave rise to discrimination. Although Christianity changed the overall attitude to people with disabilities, in practice the shift was only superficial. Contempt was replaced by mercy, spawning a rich tradition of begging based on compassion and almsgiving, some of the main tenets of this religion. Actual changes aimed at the integration of disabled people did not arrive until the last century but their pace varied between countries and they were sometimes impeded by a complete reversal in this regard, as in Nazi Germany. In Poland, the integration of disabled people through their education and rehabilitation was started in the interwar period, and the years of the People’s Republic of Poland gave such actions an even greater intensity. However, only after 1989 was a pro-integration policy developed, which was aimed not only at education and rehabilitation, but also the standardisation of the living conditions of disabled people. After 25 years of this policy, changes both in the functioning of disabled people and in the attitudes towards them are noticeable. However, difficult and controversial axiological issues still remain unsolved, being either undetermined or completely neglected both in academic studies and in social discourse. The last stage of the integration processes, which I call post-integration, is the time to address and publicise these issues, and look for optimal solutions. This compilation presents three such issues, i.e. the sexuality of people with disabilities, the abortion of a foetus with birth defects, and the right to receive help with terminating life by people who are physically unable to do so.

    The topic of the article is the situation of the Roma ethnic group in Poland as beneficiaries of assistance activities in the broad sense of the term – both of the social welfare system, as well as education and labour market institutions. In the first part, a short description of the Roma community in Poland will be presented on the background of other countries of the region, with particular emphasis on their social and living situation and moral changes. The situation of Roma living in Poland as clients of the social welfare sector will be described further along with challenges and dilemmas for social work and designing sectoral policies, including labour market and education, resulting from working in a culturally different environment from the majority society. In the context of multiculturalism policy implementation, the issue of potential possibilities of adapting national social policy to the specific needs and cultural requirements of the Roma ethnic minority will be discussed, as well as examples of good practices will be presented. The text is based on existing data sources, as well as partly on the author's own research conducted due to being prepared PhD dissertation and her personal experience in working with Roma in Małopolska and Upper Silesia.

    The European Union, a unique entity on the global scene, is at a crossroads. The original blueprint to create a supranational entity is broken, under the pressure of the constitutional crisis (2005) and later the economic and financial one (the spectre of Grexit). The process sped up in 2014, when external security appeared on the agenda, followed by an unprecedented migrant wave coming to the EU in 2015. As a result, former Euroenthusiasm has been replaced by Euroskeptic forces, mostly of populist or nationalist nature, which was strongly confi rmed by the British Brexit vote in June 2016. Those accumulated crises brought about many new division lines within the EU, well defined in this study – of political, economic, social, and even religious or cultural nature. The liberal mainstream, which has been dominant until recently, is retreating, while ‘illiberal democracy’, however it is understood, or even authoritarian solutions, are starting to flourish. This is an extraordinary era when the entire project of European integration is at stake. Time to react and sacrifice a lot to save it, if we do not want to retreat under the new challenges surrounding us. According to the author, the EU can be saved, even if it will be different than before.

    The adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) underlines the status of inclusion as a human right. In this context, inclusion means being involved in society, and people being acknowledged whatever their abilities and needs. The article gives an insight into the international debate on inclusion, and the discussion and state of implementation in Germany. It advocates a relational concept of inclusion making use of an “agency-vulnerability nexus”. Just like the human rights understanding of inclusion, relational theories of agency and vulnerability examine the processes in social environments which enable or hinder agency. They focus on professional practice, the organisational structures of social services, political conditions and social discourse (for example on disability or refugeeism) and how they are relevant to subjective scopes of action. A perspective of this kind has inherent potential with regard to social criticism, and this is indispensable for a debate which understands inclusion as a task to be tackled by society as a whole.

Artykuł ma na celu przybliżenie kategorii konwencji wykorzystywanej między innymi w piśmiennictwie francuskim, a mało znanej w polskiej nauce o polityce społecznej. Służy ona do uchwycenia i podkreślenia roli aktorów społecznych w procesie konsensualnego kształtowania głównych założeń i sposobów realizacji polityk publicznych. W niniejszym artykule kategoria ta została zaprezentowana w odniesieniu do francuskiej polityki integracji imigrantów.
    Changes taking place currently with regard to migration policies in European countries aiming at the rise of their restrictiveness, put researchers who are interested in migration processes in the need to look for new perspectives and research tools that would allow a more complete analysis. The article aims to present a little-known in Poland but often used in France theoretical category of convention. The mentioned category enables to capture and to emphasize the role of social actors with regard to process of shaping key assumptions and methods of implementation of different public policies. In the article, the category of convention has been presented with reference to the French immigrant integration policy

    This article reflects on the issue of legitimacy and attitudes of the young generation (16–19 years old) towards the European integration. The authors decided to divide the text into two parts, the first of which consists of the theoretical and historical approach to the problem of the legitimacy of European integration and the narrative about Europe, and the second presents the main conclusions and problems identified during the work of authors with the youth, and the implementation of the international Jean Monnet Network project MoreEU: More Europe to overcome the crisis. Confrontation of these two parts has made it clear that traditional justification of the legitimacy of the integration project does not speak to the contemporary youth, and that this is precisely in this age group that we can clearly see the crisis of the legitimacy of the European Union.
