Opis:
One of the most unusual events in the Ukrinian new wave literature is massive return women in it, which began in the end of 80-es. Among the most interesting writers there must be mentioned Oksana Zabuzhko, Svitlana Kasjanova, Jevhenia Kononenko, Sofia Majdanska, Valentyna Masterova, Halyna Pahutiak, Lubov Ponomarenko, Natalka Śniadanko and others. In the works of these authors, written from the femine and feministic position, as opposite to patriarchal-maskuline mentality, are deeply and convincingly considered the aspects of modern human exsistence: loneliness and alienation, loss of identity, lack of mutual understanding even among fellows and relatives, egoism and egocentism, various forms of physical and phsychological agression, and so on. Espacially great attention author of this article devotes to the analysis of chosen aspects of female identyty in the works of Zabuzhko (Field Exploration in Ukrainian Sex and others), Śniadanko (Collection of Pasions or Adventures ofYoung Ukrainian Lady), Kononenko (Without Fellow).

The main subject of the review is Mykola Ilnytskyi’s book Reading and Re-reading…, which is very important research on Ukrainian literature in contemporary humanities. The book includes four chapters in all of which fundamental interests of the researcher are described. Mykola Ilnytskyi reviews the classic texts of Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko ( chapter 1 ), and the literature of the first part of the 20th century ( chapter 2 ), as well as contemporary texts ( chapters 3, 4 ). This book is not an extensive view of the history of literature of the 20th century. Its main peculiarity is the delivery of important fragments and episodes of literary history. The essays combine a liberal understanding of the subject and an unobtrusive interpretation of the texts, which reflects the unique ethical culture of the researcher. Mykola Ilnytskyi is clearly aware of the multiplicity of meanings offered byfiction, and therefore does not insist on his own right to the truth, but only offers well-founded and personally verified versions of literary plots.

Opis:
Kvitka‑Osnovyanenko was the first prose writer of the new Ukrainian literature, the conventional starting point for which is dated as 1798, when Ivan Kotlyarevsky’s Aeneid was published. In 1833‑1834, Hryhoriy Kvitka‑Osnovyanenko began to publish his stories and short novels in Ukrainian. They served as a starting point for all subsequent prose in the Ukrainian language. A structural analysis of Kvitka’s prose has shown that his method of text construction still had much in common with folk tales: texts are constructed on the basis of elemental repetitions or binary oppositions. However, the author has already started to make important semantic shifts, introducing types of characters and collisions alien to folklore text per se. Thus the effect of deautomatization of the folklore perception is reached. The meaning of some texts, which were previously considered “humorous”, in the light of what has been said, acquires a meta‑narrative meaning: A Soldier’s Portrait and The Konotop Witch, have episodes that expose their main compositional technique (‘priyom’) and demonstrate the author’s conscious play with the narrative patterns of folklore.

The interpretation of Vasyl′ Tkachuk’s stories from an ecocritical point of view showcases new aspects of understanding the prose legacy of this remarkable writer. Of course, the true love for the Hutsul region, one that the “proud” Hutsul people live in harmony with, one that, unlike in the works of Vasyl′ Stefanyk, is not only the cause of the Hutsul people’s extreme poverty but is sincerely loved and praised by them, is not the only merit of Tkachuk’s stories. Ecocritical dimensions of the “humble rural pictures, so touching to the core” ( Mykhaylo Rudnytskyi ) imply certain aspects of the critical literary analysis of Tkachuk’snovels, such as ethno national identity of the author and his characters, unbreakable unitywith the traditions of ancestors, apotheosis of the soil—one that not only feeds but is also responsible for the unique “national spirit” of the Carpathian highlanders, ecological awareness of the old Hutsul people and the philosophical layer of the literary legacy of the author.

Opis:
The article focuses on factors and manifestations of postmodern text fragmentation. A fragment is one of the central concepts of modern and postmodern literature. The modernist fragment was a means of cognitive activity and a form of its adequate representation. It was determined by the basic concept of the integrity of a literary phenomenon and recognition of its encoded meaning, as well as encouraged the reader to invent missing parts. It has been proven that for postmodernist prose, the fragment is the only possible mode of its existence, an artistic strategy and an artistic device. The postmodernist text is positioned by the game field, where equal participants play with multiple-order fragments. Such fragments include preceding artistic traditions and techniques. Text fragmentation is enhanced by equalizing the rights of the author, character and the reader. Each participant of the literary communication has their own (partial) view of the art world. Narrative strategies of prose fragmentation are determined by the ways of building rhizomatic narratives and the peculiarities of their perception by the receptionist. Ukrainian and Polish writers use various means of constructing a fragmented text at the levels of its conceptualization, narrative structure, interpretative and receptive strategy, image-based specificity (intermediateness etc.).

Modern Ukrainian Prose after 24 February 2022. Reception of the War: The article analyses Ukrainian prose works published after the Russian aggression against Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Generally, the newest Ukrainian prose gravitates more towards the non-fiction genre framework. It is represented by numerous anthologies, mainly with pieces by famous writers, literary critics, and public figures. The authors record personal experiences and reflect on the history of the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation in historical retrospect. Today, the non-fiction format is more popular because it allows essayists to talk about painful topics from a more moderate position and broadcast the situation of Ukrainians to the international community through the mobile genre of short journalistic prose. At the same time, the revaluation of values experienced currently by millions of Ukrainians is manifested in the tendency to cancel everything Russian, which affects the course of the literary process and the distribution of roles among its players, as well as causes the appearance of texts whose style is dominated by hatred of the enemy of the occupier.

The Holocaust theme was concealed and falsified for a long time because of non-literary reasons. Therefore, only when our country got its independence, a lot of aspects became clarified – especially the increasing of geographical markers of the Shoah, the aspect of memory and traumas of its victims and witnesses, the aspects of a woman history of the Holocaust etc. One of actual problems of nowadays is the problem of personalization of the Holocaust history with including the names of victims, saved and saviors for extending the space of memory about the tragedy of European Jews in the times of WWII. Literature, as well as historical science and commemorative practices, actively participates in this. The object of our attention in the following article is modern Ukrainian prose – novels “Sonya” (2013) by K. Babkina, “Me, You, And Our Drawn And Undrawn God” (2016) by T. Pakhomova, “A Story Worthy of a Whole Apple Orchard” (2017) by M. Dupeshko, “The Beech Land” (2019) by M. Matios. The aim of investigation is the characters of victims and saviors who have real prototypes: an icon of the Holocaust in Poland and Liublin, 9-years-old Henio (Henryk Zhytomirski), Righteous Among the Nations Maria and Stepan Vrublevski (Maria and Stepan Sichevliuk-Vrublevski), the Chernivtsi poet Selma Meerbaum- Eisinger, the mayor of Chernivtsi Traian Popovici, the diplomats Grzegorz Szymonowicz and Fritz Schellhorn. Implementation the life stories of real personalities into fictional form leads to expanding the memory about the Holocaust in Ukraine, and it’s also a way of creating a modern culture of memory, that is particularly important in a context of the international tendencies of finding the common understanding through awareness of a personal responsibility of others’ lives, and non-admission of repeating the tragic pages of the XX ct. history, one of those was the Holocaust. Since the long-term silence of the traumatic experience of the Holocaust victims didn’t create an intergenerational connection in the process of transmitting the memory of the Holocaust, modern literature, with its artistic construction of the past, becomes not only a tool for spreading knowledge about the Shoah, but also a way of creating the cultural memory about this tragedy. The prospect of further research of the following aspect is seen in a deep analysis of new examples of both Ukrainian and translated literature, including novels written by authors that are biographically related to Ukraine.

The article analyzes a volume of literary reports by Ê. Gončarova Desʹ poruč vìjna. The texts that the writers come out from under the pen are deeply rooted in the described reality, not only thought out but also lived. Jelizaweta Honcharova writes reports from the war which brutally invaded her life (she comes from Artemivsk herself). In the texts, however, we will not fi nd despair, complaint or grief and pictures of the life of the areas through which the war is swept. The protagonists of the reports Desʹ poruč vìjna are people repeatedly subjected to war. The writer looks at their reactions to the next challenges, the struggle for survival, the safety of his family, and fi nally the normal living conditions. Jelizaweta Honcharova notices their confusion, the doubts on which side of the confl ict should be told. Without pathos and judgment, it shows the drama of political divisions and choices in which the boundary between being a patriot and a traitor is often not sharp clear może. He leans over a drama of broken families, confl icts and despair that break out in them. The author presents a war that kills childhood. It takes your big and smaller dreams away irretrievably. The drama of war presented by the writer takes place on many levels. The most important of them is probably the sphere of family life. War violates the basic tissue of relationships for children. Thanks to the reports of Honcharova, the reader notices the whole range of problems that a young man encounters. The reports are full of pain but also the awareness of the good that happens between people even in such inhuman times. They constitute a kind of testimony of history, designed to protect against possible attempts to manipulate it in the future. Thus, Honcharova gives them supra-regional and timeless dimension.
