Opis:: The paper observes the Slavic-inspired young adult fiction and fantasy that is a recent and unexplored phenomenon in the U.S. literature. The author focuses on Baba Yaga, a powerful witch and boogeyman from the Slavic folklore, and studies the sources about her and the interpretation of this ogress in Naomi Novik’s novel Uprooted, Catherynne M. Valente’s novel Deathless and Katherine Arden’s Winternight Trilogy. For these writers, Yaga embodies feminine power, knowledge, true vision, intuition and magic. At the same time, these authors try to move away from the fabulous Baba Yaga, either bringing her closer to the goddess of nature (Novik), or socializing and caricaturizing as much as possible (Valente), or humanizing (Arden). All the main heroines of the considered works evolve from a “maiden in trouble” to a “warrior maiden” who is able not only to help herself, but also to save others. It is concluded that the image of the Yaga warrior could reflect the ancient contacts of the Slavs, and, possibly, the Germans (Goths) with the Sarmatian or Greek women, the so called “amazons”, from the Black Sea or Azov coast. Accordingly, to a greater or lesser extent, the Slavic Yaga implements a feminist worldview, understandable to American readers, and acts as an assistant and a good advisor to the heroines on the path of their coming of age.

Opis:: В останні роки в Україні активізувалася дискусія довкола ґендерної політики. Однією зі складових стала інтеграція ґендерних студій у систему освіти. В статті пропонується аналіз ґендерних студій у середовищі вищої освіти і недержавних громадських організацій, оцінка їхньої задіяності в законодавчу сферу та співпрацю з органами влади, внесок у підготовку фахівців з ґендерних студій. Українські НДО, спрямовані на підтримку ґендерної політики, сформували потужне громадське лобі. Ці процеси бурхливо обговорюються в інформаційному полі і стають інструментом в умовах гібридної війни проти України.
In recent years, Ukraine has intensified discussion on gender policy. One of the components was the integration of gender studies into the education system. The article proposes an analysis of gender studies in higher education and non-governmental organizations, assessment of their involvement in the legislative sphere and cooperation with authorities, contribution to the training of gender specialists. Ukrainian NGOs, which aimed at supporting gender policy, have formed a powerful public lobby. These processes are vigorously discussed in the media field and become a tool in terms of hybrid war against Ukraine.

Opis:: У статті йдеться про тему фемінізму в українській літературі у період порубіжжя. Це одна з провідних тем української літератури. Спершу вони себе проявили в літературній діяльності, пізніше – у сферах науки, мистецтва, громадського, економічного, політичного життя суспільства. Уперше в українській літературі тему емансипації жінки з середніх соціальних верств порушує Ольга Кобилянська. Питання жіночого руху як суспільного явища привертало і продовжує привертати увагу багатьох дослідників. В Україні, так як і в інших країнах Європи, він набув поширення в другій половині XIX століття. Ініціаторки та учасниці жіночих рухів відстоювали необхідність надання жінкам рівних із чоловіками прав у професійному, суспільному та політичному житті.
The article deals with the topic of feminism in Ukrainian literature in the period of the frontier. This is one of the leading themes of Ukrainian literature. For women the XIX century was a turning point. At first they man ifested themselves in literary activity, later – in the fields of science, art, social, economic, political life of society. For the first time in Ukrainian literature Olga Kobylyanska raises the topic of emancipation of women from middle social strata. The issue of the women’s movement as a social phenomenon has attracted and continues to attract attention of many researchers. In Ukraine, as in other European countries, it became widespread in the second half of the XIX century. The initiators of the women’s movement advocated the need to give women equal rights with men in professional, social and political life.
