- The authors focuses on the contribution for health and especially care important for gypsy women in pregnancy. Gypsy women are an ethnic group that live permanently in Slovakia and require a different approach due to their traditional culture and lifestyle. The survival of the gypsy culture often causes an obstacle to their integration into society. Improper conditions in which the gypsy lives and how their lives are signed under unfavorable health status of the gypsy community does not assist the situation. The gypsy community is dominated by distrust of majority society, which is reflected by the issues between the healthcare and the gypsy community. Gypsy personality is characterized its somatic, socio-cultural and psychological specificities. Importantly is focus on family than on work. Life is for gypsy highest value. Therefore, birth rates and fertility is higher among gypsy women. Gypsy family is patriarchal with a strong male authority. The family is three-generation and multi-generational, social considerably dependent on kinship, has strong ancestral ties. Gypsy woman in pregnancy is necessary to determine her attitude towards health and this attitude can either reinforce or change. It is necessary that gypsy women learn to care for themselves during pregnancy and beyond, in order to avoid damaging their health, but most of their unborn child.
