In this article we focus on the problem of memory realised in the artistic space of E.G. Vodolazkin’s Aviator. The aim of the study is to analyse memory as a mechanism shaping the novel’s structure. In order to reach this goal, it seems important to explore the structure of the literary text, to understand the meaning of categories of memory and memories, while searching for key ideas of the text. The analysis reveals the significance of the category of memory, emphasising not only the specificity of the novel’s fictional and compositional structure, but also revealing a complex of philosophical ideas and motifs related in particular to understanding the theme of memory as overcoming time (including death) and the issue of spiritual identity formation.

The article discusses the semiotic parameters of the locus of the study room in the Russian novel from the second half of the 19th century. It outlines the socio-cultural context that makes this locus topical in the works of the Russian novelists from the epoch after the reforms. The given examples of presence of the study room in the novels of I. Turgenev, I. Goncharov, F. Dostoevsky and L. Tolstoy are interpreted in several principle aspects: – objects in the composition and its selection – the relation character – material detail – semantic transformations and their motivation.

This article begins with a brief characterization of the writer’s notebook as a special text type. Then the article analyzes structural and compositional features that notebooks of the 19th and 20th centuries have in common with postmodernist prose. These features include: a) fragmentary narration; chaotic composition; many syntactic and semantic ellipses; b) the absence of one main idea and an important role of chance in the creative process; c) an opportunity to start reading a text from any of its parts, even from the end; d) a great number of intertextual links; similarity to hypertext; e) no stylistic and thematic limitations, etc. There are three possible explanations of these points of convergence: a psychological one, a linguistic one and a historical-literary one.

The article deals with the collection of stories by J. Barszczewski Nobleman Zawalnia, or Belarus in Fantastic Stories (Szlachcic Zawalnia czyli Białoruś w fantastycznych opowiadaniach, 1844-1846) in the context of Gothic literary tradition in Russian literature of the 30-40-es of the XIXth century. The author comes to the conclusion that folk motives in the cycle Nobleman Zawalnia... transform under the influence of Gothic literary tradition, which could be perceived by J. Barszczewski indirectly, through the oeuvre of other authors. The usage of comparative methods allows to find out typological relations between the cycle by Barszczewski and the cycles of stories Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka by N. V. Gogol and An Evening on Khoper by M. N. Zagoskin.

In Serbian theolinguistics, there is a good terminological and theoretical basis for research of sacral functional stylistics complex, e.g. functional varieties and genres of the literary language determined by sacral spheres and aims of communication. In this paper, about 160–170 lexical units from two texts of this sphere and literary style have been analyzed. The first one is novel Lavr, translated into Serbian from Russian and the second is Service of the Icon of the Mother of God Velikore - m e t s k a – translated into Serbian from the Church-Slavonic language. The first genre (novel) belongs to both the sacral and profane sphere, while the second one (service) is a genre belonging to the sacral sphere only. Stylematic characteristics of lexical units from these texts have been analyzed, mostly on lexical, phonetic-morphological and derivational language levels. In almost all cases (except terminology) stylistically adequate lexemes have been opposed to stylistically neutral (or other) synonym(s). Although we already know what basic constitutive elements of sacral functional stylistics complex (churchslavonisms and archaisms) are, there is not enough synchronic stylistic research of concrete material belonging to sacral functional stylistics complex in the Serbian linguistics. This offered here is one of the first and we hope it to be stimulating for other researchers, so that we can create a bigger list of stylistic adequate lexemes used in sacral genres. This will be useful not only for stylistics of sacral genres, but also for the theory and practice of translation, as well as to Serbian and Slavic theolinguistics.

This article presents the thesis that the novel The ape is coming to pick up its skull (1943) by Yuri Dombrovsky bears the genre features of a pamphlet and the structure of the novel, which is subordinated to a didactic purpose – the work contains a warning against the dehumanization and degradation of culture. The novel aims to ridicule the fascists and their ideology. The narrator’s attitude towards all the fascist protagonists is dominated by irony and sarcasm. The character construction of the fascists is ruled by schematism. The narrator emphasizes the animal element in them. They are compared to an ape who is a caricature hybrid of a human and a monkey. The “monkey” traits and behaviours are highlighted in their portraits. In the novel, the dialogues and disputes of the main opponents serve to expose the cynical demagogy of fascism and its inability to create any universal values.

The article discusses the poetics of ‘word painting’ in the generic and stylistic development of historical prose: from Pushkin’s Peter the Great’s Negro (1829) to Tolstoy’s novel Peter the Great (1930–1945). It is revealed that ‘verbal art’, along with ‘Walter Scott’s’ type of description of the epoch, functioned in novelistic texts as the most productive means of expression for artistic historicism. The opposition between this method of representation and that of static historical description – as in the ‘boyar chapters’ of Peter the Great’s Negro – is explained. It was this that may have caused the breach in the stylistic integrity of the novel and determined the incompleteness of its conception and realization. In their dynamic presentation of the life in ‘Peter’s Russia’, both Pushkin and Tolstoy blend antithetic techniques: viewing reality from a historical distance – with a direct vision of phenomena, generalizing historical and philosophic formulas – with objectified specificity of visual expression. With the help of the ‘verbal-art’ methods, an insight into the epoch is made possible by combining points of view and showing an image from varied angles. This serves achieving an artistic effect defined by Aleksei Tolstoy as ‘contemplation through somebody else’s eyes’, which illustrates the problem of ‘varying scale’ in presenting the era as having its own artistic significance.

The article presents the most significant issues which are connected with the narration in the Bulgakov’s novel. The first-person narrative is construed by means of the vivid and flowery language. The author’s critical comments on the age of Louis XIV and human relationships that prevailed in the then theatres, proved to be universal and timeless. To a large extent the comments reveal the author’s own opinions on the life of theatre in the times of Stalin’s terror.
Статья представляет наиболее существенные проблемы, связанные с повествованием в романе Михаила Булгакова. Оно ведется от первого лица единственного числа живым, насыщенным художественными средствами языком. Критические замечания повествователя об эпохе Людовика XIV, господствующих тогда в театре отношениях носят универсальный и вневременной характер. В большой степени это мнение самого Булгакова о театральной жизни времен сталинского террора.

The relevance of the chosen topic is determined by the opportunity of con-sidering the issue of intermediality that has a debatable nature according to Russian and foreign researchers. The aim of this paper is to identify the principles of intermedi-ality on the basis of a comprehensive philological analysis of two novels by B. Schlink: The woman on the stairs (2014) and Olga (2018), paying particular attention to the practical aspects of how ecphrasis is realized in the poetics of the above-mentioned works. The research tasks were accomplished based on critical analyses of the concepts formulated by well-known domestic and foreign researchers. As a result of the under-taken study, it was established that the key to the understanding of the ideological and artistic content of the works by B. Schlink are pictorial and photographic examples of ecphrasis having both plot-forming and characterological functions. Moreover, ethical and aesthetic conceptions contained in all works by B. Schlink were analyzed.

The article is dedicated to the study of the religious problems of Vs. S. Solovyov’s historical novel “The Princess of Ostrog”, the central plot conflict of which is an open struggle between the Orthodoxy and the Catholicism that broke out in the 16th century in The Polish- Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the process of analysing the designated aspect of the text the author comes to the conclusion that the images of Konstantin, Halshka and Beata Ostrozhsky considered in the paper are a clear embodiment of the three possible life aspirations of the people who lived in the era recreated by the author: the struggle for the Orthodoxy in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania; asserting one’s right to profess the Orthodoxy; propaganda of the Catholicism.

Opis:
The polysubjective perception of the world in Dina Rubina’s novel allows us to observe the author’s voice in the narrator’s comments and the characters’ remarks. The author coordinates all the subjects of narration, and in his comments he makes a connection between the time the hero experiences the event and the time the reader comprehends it. The author’s commentary includes direct judgments from his own life experience, figures of silence (semantic gaps), as well as incorporated constructions. Through those ploys it is possible to present the picture of the world in the novel which is largely determined by the phenomenon of transition of the character’s internal state and his external displacement (emigration).
Полисубъектное восприятие мира в романе Дины Рубиной позволяет отметить авторский голос в суждениях нарратора и репликах героев. Автор осуществляет координацию всех субъектов наррации и в своих комментариях осуществляет связь между временем проживания события героем и временем осмысления его читателем. Авторский комментарий включает непосредственные суждения из его жизненного опыта, фигуры умолчания (смысловые лакуны), вставные конструкции, посредством которых можно представить картину мира в романе. Она в значительной степени обусловлена явлением переходности внутреннего состояния героя и его внешнего перемещения(эмиграции).
Wielopodmiotowe postrzeganie świata w powieści Diny Rubiny pozwala wyróżnić głos autora w komentarzach narratora i wypowiedziach bohaterów. Autor koordynuje wszystkie wątki narracji, a w swoich komentarzach łączy moment przeżywania wydarzenia przez bohatera z czasem ,w którym czytelnik go pojmuje. Komentarz autora zawiera bezpośrednie sądy z własnego doświadczenia życiowego, figury ciszy(luki semantyczne),a także konstrukcje inkorporowane. Dzięki tym chwytom możliwe jest przedstawienie obrazu świata w powieści, który w dużej mierze jest zdeterminowany przez zjawisko przejścia stanu wewnętrznego bohatera i jego zewnętrzne przemieszczenie (emigracja).
