Opis:
The article presents a certain tradition in the Russian classical lyrical poetry, which originates in the motif of a lyrical subject’s taking his leave of St. Petersburg – and reflecting on this parting. The lyrical plots and the poetics of such poems have been subject to evolution in the course of the 19th and the 20th century and developed into a number of typical forms; in the 21st century these forms have been in interaction and various poets have been using them. The article brings the analysis of the lyrical cycle Parting with St. Petersburg by Fiodor Gorodov, an amateur poet publishing on the Internet. The cycle constitutes an interesting realization of the genre and successfully brings together all its main varieties.

The article analyses the figure of the heroine Lubov in Kirill Serebrennikov’s film St George’s Day. The main aim is to show how the town of Yuriev and its residents affect the spiritual change of Lubov. The author examines the consistent rejection of the truth of the mind in favour of the truth of faith in Lubov’s life. The initial multilevel conflict between the opera singer and the town is supposed to be laid out in the Russian attitude to the world, which is based on the verge of two binary paradigms – the West and the East – exemplifying in turn the culture of the mind (reason) and the culture of faith (intuition). The provincial Russian town is correlated with the view of St. Petersburg in V. Toporov’s ‘Petersburg text’ due to its particular and distinguishable influence on outer visitors: the town imposes on Lubov its rules, affecting her present life not only materially but most of all spiritually. Besides, the consecutive analyses allow to draw an analogy between Lubov and Dostoevsky’s meek heroines. Like the ‘humiliated and insulted’ women of the author of Crime and punishment, the former opera singer enters the path of suffering and self-sacrifice to completely abandon her own self.

Opis:
The article discusses Dostoyevsky’s story The Crocodile as an episode in the development of the so-called “St. Petersburg story”, established by Pushkin and Gogol as a specific ideological and fictional genre, connected with the symbolic representation of the St. Petersburg period in Russian history. In the analysis of the title and the exposition of the story, the monster is seen as an allegory of the disquieted political body in Russia following the reforms of 1861. Among the sources of the allegory are the Biblical synonymous use of “Leviathan – Crocodile”, Thomas Hobbes’ s treatise Leviathan, and the Russian Old Believers’ invectives about The Ruler and The Crocodile-State. The analysis suggests that Dostoyevsky translates the political notion of Leviathan as a metaphor of the absolutist social negotiation through the equivalent of the Crocodile, already familiar in Russian collective mentality. In this respect, it is assumed that the story serves as a warning about the dangers resulting from the disquieted political body.

The paper aims to introduce research in the field of the literary imagology and text semiotics. It focuses on the analysis of the creation of “autoimage”, or rather a self-image, and “hereroimage”, or a counter-mage, the image of otherness, as a means of shaping national identity, by interpreting the artistic texts written by the Czech writer Jáchym Topol and the Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin. It pays attention particularly to their novels from the first decade of the 21st century. The texts will be compared in a broader context of social discourse. Moreover, it will address the issue of the disproportion between the intensity of attention of one nation to another (Czech-Russian and Russian-Czech) and the differences in the perception of cultural distance.

The article focuses on the history of the Book of Revelation of St. John the Theologian among Orthodox Slavs in the Middle Ages. The aim is to present its place among the other biblical books, related to Cyril and Methodius’ literary tradition and follow its origin, its way of life and spreading in the Slavia Orthodoxa. The two main versions of the distribution of the book are presented – without interpretations and with the interpretations of St. Andrew of Caesarea, while the specifics of the basic versions of the book are also presented (East Slavonic and South Slavic versions with commentaries, Bosnian Cyrillic version, the earliest Serbian transcript, Croatian Glagolitic fragments, Bulgarian calendar version). An opinion has been expressed that a common initial translation is at the root of all these versions of the book, which was accompanied by interpretations, and probably made in Bulgaria at the end of 9th–10th C. Subsequently, it has been edited at different Times and in different locations, placed in the composition of different collections, or as a separate book.

Opis:
There are two liturgical services for St Prohor of Pčinja (XIth c.) in Old Church Slavonic: the first one was already in existence during the XVIth–XVIIth centuries, while the second one is known merely from later manuscript and printed sources of the second half of the XIXth century (it was also included the latest edition of Srbljak printed in 1986). The author presents evidence that the two Canons of the second service contain a joint acrostic which includes not merely the author’s name (it was already noticed by Đ. Trifunović), but also a previously unnoticed phrasal acrоstic. There is good reason to believe that the Service was composed by the monk Dionysius of Hilandar (born in Gabrovo) during his stay in the Monastery of Venerable Prohor of Pčinja (now in southern Serbia) in 1857–1863.

Opis:
It is a well known fact that for several centuries the Syrian cult of St. Alexius of Rome († ca 411) remained anonymous, and for the first time his name was attested in a Greek liturgical hymn composed by Joseph the Hymnographer († 886). The reason why he was given this name remains obscure. The author argues that this was due to the transformation of the originally Syrian cult into a new (Byzantine) linguistic and cultural environment and the process went through two subsequent stages. First, since in Byzantium, unlike Syria, anonymous cults were not usual, an attempt was made to deduce his name from the Bible, where the same expression Man of God (iš elohim in Hebrew) is regularly used for prophets: not only anonymous, but also Moses, Samuel, Shemaiah, Elijah, and Elisha. Most frequently this epithet is applied to the prophet Elisha, hence this name must have been initially chosen by Byzantine bookmen to be given to the anonymous Syrian saint. Second, since the name Elisha, although well known in Byzantium, remained basically alien to the Greek speaking public and used to be perceived as exclusively Hebrew (not merely in origin, but also functionally), it was spontaneously Hellenized by its substitution with the Greek name ’Αλέξιος which sounded quite similarly to ’Ελι(σ) σαĩος (Elisha) as the originally Syrian cult spread more widely in a Greek speaking milieu. This kind of substitution of personal names based on their phonetic similarity is by no means unparalleled and can be typologically verified. Somewhere outside Byzantium, the same Syrian cult was onomastically adapted using the same algorithm as in the first Byzantine stage. However, from the same list of the Hebrew prophets another name was chosen, and the same anonymous Syrian saint was called Moses (attested in Arabic and Georgian sources). This time his name was chosen not because of the frequency with which a Hebrew prophet was characterized as a Man of God in the Bible (as in the case of Elisha), but taking into consideration the significance of personality among the same five Hebrew prophets.

The essence of Russia’s relations with Belarus after the end of the 20th century boils down to a specific kind of balance. Thanks to its presence in the institutional forms of close cooperation such as the CSTO, the Union State or the Eurasian Economic Union Minsk enjoys the openness of Russian market and very low prices of imported resources (especially crude oil and gas). What Moscow receives in return can be classified as a sort of intangible goods: greater prestige and a „friendly hegemonic” position in international relations. The balance of the game falls in favor of Lukashenko who takes advantage of his country’s location between the Russian Federation and the EU: Moscow is permanently blackmailed with the possibility of Minsk’s hypothetical turn toward the Western partners.

The most numerous thematic groups are constituted by names of professionals and political activists.
